Chapter Eleven : They're Here
Time was running late when King Salvador came striding to the disturbed neighbourhood that called for his urgent presence, with Alan and Wade, the Sea Meanian Helper, on his side they also offered help to those who needed it.
Even though the mess and the injuries that the men received were minor, what was major was their witness of a beast attacking in the neighbourhood. Which caused tension and a sense of danger to hang in the air.
King Salvador and his men knew they couldn't rest when there was a monster on the loose. Not until the situation is planned and solved.
"Is everyone alright?" King Salvador looked around at his people, some were cleaning the mess after the fight that happened while others checked on the men to seek any hidden wounds or injuries on their bodies.
"Everyone seems to be fine and unharmed," one of the Night Meanians replied on behalf of the other Meanians.
"I've heard that a beast came and attacked one of you, is that true?" He asked with concern in his tone.
"It is true alright, and that beast ain't random either!" An elderly man stepped out with his trembling legs and arms; the trembling wasn't of fear but rather from his body and bones' weakness.
To support his legs to stand a young Meanian held the old man's arm. "That was the same beast that attacked Grevalon and the children in the forest! Now for some reason, it attacked Onel Grevalon!" The old man pointed his skinny finger at Onel's broken front door.
"How could the same entity that we eliminated attacked Onel? And how did it come here in the first place?" Salvador asked him, surprised by his answer.
"We thought that maybe it burst out of the door since we heard a loud noise coming from Onel's house, that's where Onel's son Darvin cried out the warning call of a beast attacking him and his father. So we all came to his aid," the young Meanian told him.
"And what else happened?"
"Just as the beast was about to spit a fireball from its mouth Fearian Grevalon himself appeared out of nowhere and stopped it!" The old man cried. "That damn beast mostly attacked Fearian and Onel for some reason and when Onel fled the monster went after him, and so did Fearian--" The old man coughed afterwards.
"Take it easy Old Maois." The young man patted his back.
"So Fearian Grevalon came here and stopped that entity from attacking his father, then Onel fled the scene and out of the neighbourhood?" Salvador revised what the old man had told him.
"Yes, and once he ran Fearian actually went after that entity and Hunter Red Minsan chased him down along with Darvin, they went southeast to the Stonalie Valley," the young man explained.
That's where Stariaz the Star Mage lives Salvador thought to himself.
"And that's it?"
"That's it alright! And since that Naught is on the loose, there will be even more disaster!" Maois coughed again.
Salvador scanned the area around him and read the men's eyes waiting for his orders and answers, so he thought of plans to calm his people and reassure them that the troubles would be tackled and solved.
"Since that entity was no ordinary being I suggest that you take the children to the safest place along with the vulnerable men, as for the strong men you must join the guards and search for any hidden enemies. Either within the kingdom or on the outskirts. Because we might be under a grave threat," Salvador shot a glance at his people with deep seriousness.
"We'll divide into four groups and each group will go to a different path to cover more grounds quickly, I'll take nine men with me to go after the beast while others go to the West, North and East, is that clear?"
"Yes your majesty," they all replied.
"Frosa Kang dam!" Salvador rose a fist in the air as he shouted out the words that stuck on every tongue of every Meanian.
"Frosa kang dam!" They copied his act in return.
And without hesitation or any further planning, everyone went to their position and left. Salvador and his men jogged to the Southeast as they were told and at the same time, they readied their spears and silver chains, as for Salvador he focused on his magic and called a silvery orb to his palm.
Then he stretched the moon-like orb into a long silver blade, a sword that shone with power under the moonlight's touch.
As they proceeded, Salvador began to surf through his thoughts.
From his perspective as king, he considered Fearian's misbehaviour in the kingdom to be minor yet serious. But as soon as he learned about Fearian's escape and saving his father from somehow a powerful being, more concerns and suspicions devoured his mind.
In this kingdom, it meant only one thing, his enemies were on the rise. And his enemies weren't ordinary nor different from their kin.
If that entity was powerful enough, that would mean dark magic was involved in making that beast, and who would use dark magic none other than the Dark Meanians.
These Dark Meanians have similar attributes of massive weight and tall height, however, their minds were too far different and mostly corrupted with darkness. Their hearts were way too black to the point that mercy was erased from their minds. That's what King Salvador thought of them. Men filled with unholy thoughts with corruption clinging to their minds.
What made him worry even more was that if the Dark Meanians were around the kingdom, that would also mean--
Salvador shrugged and shook that thought off his head, he knows that he's dead and his soul is trapped. He can't be free and wandering around possessing other people.
Salvador tried to fight off his concerns and push them away from his mind. But countless possibilities of his escape were battling and towering over his head.
What if he was free? What if he's calling out to his men to aid him? Was it him who summoned that beast to attack the kingdom? Or did one of his men send that beast as a distraction so he could free him? Could it be...
His concerned voice inside his head never stopped feeding him with fearful thoughts, and his anxiety was slowly growing in his heart as he kept questioning his freedom.
To the point that the sound of the guards' iron boots thudding against the harsh grounds was muffled by his fear. He wanted to stop, his voice was getting louder, more like a shout or a scream of fear that was now piercing into his ears.
"AAAHHH!" The scream of pain had pulled Salvador from his anxious thoughts and into reality. All these thoughts and feelings suddenly washed away from his body.
"Over there!" One of the guards pointed ahead at the source of the scream.
And even though Salvador was a few yards away, he could clearly distinguish in the darkness of the night three dark figures ahead. Two of them were violently laying on the crimson figure with their weight while the other one was landing punches on a blue-skinned man.
That's when Salvador's heart immediately sunk at his realisation.
Dark Meanians He thought. They're here!
Without hesitation, Salvador lifted his feet off the ground. He then charged at incredible speed towards the two Dark men with his silvery and feathery wings, just as he approached them he quickly summoned his silvery chain and caught them with a loop.
"What the--" They screamed once Salvador pulled them away with his chain that burned their arms with the touch of it on their bare skin.
Then he yanked them and swung them to the ground with his might, which caused the third man to look behind and see what was going on. And Salvador looked back at him.
"You," the Dark Meanian growled at him.
"Who are you? And what are your plans?" Salvador tugged the remaining chains into his hand as the guards circled them with their spears pointed at the standing threat.
"I came here to comply with his majesty's command and fulfil my desire to torture." The man's growling lips turned to a sneer.
"Who are you?!" Salvador lifted his sword and pointed at the man's face.
"You really don't recognise me? Silver bug?" The man's voice suddenly deepened, and his red eyes turned into complete blackness. Which then sent a wave of chills and fear to the people around him.
In particular, Salvador was shocked and surprised at the sound of a familiar voice, the black pupils on his golden eyes shrunk into dots. It can't be...
"I love it when I see the fear in your eyes, it reminds me of old times when you were young and desperate." The man chuckled.
"How?! You were cast away and trapped within my chains! How did you escape?!" Salvador's heart pounded violently against his chest, and he tried his best not to show it.
"I don't think I have time to explain, I must leave and plan on how to bring the kingdom to the depths." He let out his maniacal laughter as a large mass of shadows swarmed him and the other two Dark Meanians, which caused the strong wind to roar and blind the men around him, including Salvador.
Once the wind calmed down, everyone lifted their heads from their elbows and saw nothing. The Dark Meanians have disappeared, leaving the wounded on the ground. And Salvador to stand in shock and anxiety.
He turned to the person who was lying on the ground to find him struggling to sit up. Then he turned to the other who remained there whimpering in pain.
"Guards, take the wounded to the Healing Temple quickly," Salvador ordered.
"Your majesty, there is a deceased!" One of the guards called.
Salvador's heart sunk again and he strode to the spot, only to widen his eyes and the sorrow to wash over him at the sight of a familiar face, lying on the lake of dark blood, that was now lifeless.
"It's Stariaz the Star Mage..." His nightmare was becoming a reality.
