Chapter Eight : The Chase (1/2)

Onel sucked in the shivering breaths as his eyes locked on the creature that somehow got inside his house. It slowly approached with another growl. Its fury was clearly shown on its face under the moonlight from the window.

"D-Dad... Let's go!" Darvin managed to say as he quickly tugged his father away before the beast leapt towards them with a roar and open mouth of sharp teeth.

Once they fell out of the way, the beast was outside on the cobblestone street. The beast let out another roar that woke the neighbourhood's men. Darvin stood in front of his father as he called out.

"Beast! Beast! There is a beast in this neighbourhood!" As he called for help, he summoned his bow again with sizzling flames and aimed it at the creature.

"Stay back!" He told his dad, who was standing there paralysed with fear.

Darvin began shooting the beast while the men came out of their houses with weapons in hand and the alarm in their eyes. They didn't hesitate but went after the beast when they saw it and attacked with all their might as they yelled.

However, the monster pushed them away violently with its arms as if they were nothing. Some of the men hit the walls with their backs as they flew from the monster's hit.

"Call the king and inform him!" One of the men called.

"There is a beast!"

"Get it!"

These Meanians weren't the only ones fighting off the beast. The Night Meanians came as reinforcement when they heard the chaos going on. They held their spears and torches as they came.

This is what happens if an entity or a monster attacked the men. They fight back rather than wait for stronger men to do the job.

Darvin kept shooting the beast that didn't flinch or back away from his arrows. So instead, he put away his bow and lifted his cloak. To reveal the silver chain with a black handle that was rolled and hanged from his belt.

He quickly grabbed the handle and pulled it out and whipped it in the air, revealing the small hooked tip at the end of the chain. Darvin was ready to use it on the beast.

"Hey! Over here!" Darvin called the beast, and among the fight and screaming of the men, its attention was caught by Darvin's yelling.

It roared as it charged at Darvin, and as it got closer, Darvin immediately threw the chain at it. It wrapped around its neck and the hooked tip pierced through it, which made the beast shriek in pain and struggle.

As it finally caught it, the beast's skin sizzled as smoke started to come out of its neck. A wound began to form.

"O-Onel... Must... Pay... " The beast managed to let the words out within its screams and shrieks. Its voice was deep and dry.

This time Onel heard it, he heard it loud and clear and immediately recognised the voice. His eyes widened even more as his surrounding suddenly went in slow motion, and the voices and yells were muffled.

All Onel did was watch as the monster finally broke free from the chain and charged at him. Its eyes were now glowing brighter red as it opened its mouth to reveal a red fireball forming inside, ready to shoot it at Onel.

Onel shrunk back as he covered himself with his arms and screamed in fear, thinking his bare hands will protect him. But before the monster shot the fireball, black fabric of shade suddenly covered the beast into a big dark barrier. Preventing it from attacking anyone.

It moved violently inside, trying to break free again as the men stopped and watched in shock.

"I'm not letting you... " The beast was lifted high into the air. "Hurt my family!" Then immediately, the barrier was tossed into the ground with full strength. Causing an earthquake and the beast to shriek in pain.

"F-Fearian?!" Darvin called in shock when the barrier vanished from the beast. And Fearian came out from behind one of the houses with both of his fists covered in shades.

"It's Grevalon!" The men were surprised to see him again after they took him away.

Before Fearian could speak, the beast roared and jumped from its fallen position and saw Fearian.

He summoned more fabrics of shades from the ground and wrapped it around the beast again and lifted it, but this time the beast managed to let out a burst of flames from its body. Pushing away the shades from its body and landing in front of Fearian.

He tried to raise another shade to defend himself, but unfortunately, the beast smacked him and leapt on him.

"Fearian!" Darvin didn't hesitate but threw the chain at it and pulled while it resisted and continued to harm Fearian uncontrollably.

Fearian was trying his best to keep the beast's arms away from his face before it gets shredded. But it did give Fearian a scar on his cheek, letting him grunt loudly in pain.

The men finally threw their weapons at it while Onel decided to flee the scene from the sheer horror he felt after he encountered the beast himself, and that wasn't any monster. It was his nightmare that became a reality.

The beast grabbed the silver chain from behind and pulled Darvin with full force, and swung him at the men. They yelled as Darvin landed at them and fell to the ground while the beast turned around to see Onel running away. It growled and suddenly went after him, leaving Fearian on the ground.

"Come back you piece of shit!" Fearian panted angrily as he stood up with his limbs shivering from the pain.

"Stop right there, Grevalon!" Fearian turned around to the deep voice that called him, and to his frustration, it was that big Fire Meanian with the silver chain in hand.

"Not you again! I don't have time for this!" Instead of sprinting away, Fearian opened his bat wings and took off into the dark sky while the men stood up and so Darvin.

"So that's how it's gonna be huh?!" Red yelled angrily at him. Fearian ignored him and flew away. "Oh, I'll show you!" Red cried and went after him, leaving earthquakes behind as he ran.

"Wait stop! Don't hurt him!" Darvin called as he went after them, but he was further away since Fearian and Red were fast.
