"You weren't gonna say goodbye?"
Penelope Park sighed as she turned back around to look at Josie, noticing how the girl's eyebrows were furrowed as she stared across at the other witch. Her hand gripped a little tighter on the handle of her suitcase, the urge to just drop it and run to the other girl forever lingering in her stomach.
"I did, in my letter," Penelope replied, her voice staying as steady as she could keep it. "Which I'm guessing you finally read."
Josie smiled sheepishly, the guilt seeping in her. She knew that Penelope leaving couldn't likely be stopped now, but she regretted not having just opened the letter sooner. Yeah, Georgie was Josie's heart holder at the moment but Penelope had been her first proper love.
"Belgium?"
"My mom got a job. And there's a great witch-only school, so I don't have to deal with wolves or vamps or Lizzie," Penelope joked, her smile faltering for a moment. "Or fight off competition for your heart, which I'd lose, by the way."
Josie opened her mouth, almost to argue with the second point but as no words fell from her lips, both of them knew it was true. Georgie was Josie's new epic love, and despite their history, Penelope just couldn't compete with the hybrid.
"You know, for weeks, I have been hoping that you would give me one reason to stay. Instead, you gave me a thousand reasons to go. Losing on purpose, always putting yourself second. My heart can't take it, and I will not wait around and watch what happens to you next," Penelope continued, a bitter look crossing her face for a moment as she studied Josie standing there in her Miss Mystic Falls dress.
Josie blinked in confusion at her, scrunching her eyebrows as she shook away tears.
"What are you talking about?"
"You know the pens I was using to spy? This ...records all of it. It's basically a log of everything written down at the Salvatore School. And I want you to read what your dad wrote about something called the Merge," Penelope informed her as she thrust the book into Josie's hands, her eyes picking up the movement of a familiar dark haired girl turning into the corridor. "One day, you will understand why I did everything I did. I love you, Jo-Jo. I love you with all of my obnoxious, selfish, evil heart. It's because I love you that I even got you a parting gift, even though it breaks my heart in two."
"A parting gift?" Josie asked, not sure what she meant, since she had literally just given her the book. Josie's eyes furrowed as she noticed Penelope look over her shoulder at something, a small smile resting on the witch's face almost with a knowing look.
"Josie," Georgie breathed, the siphoner turning around and noticing the hybrid who was standing at the end of the corridor. Josie's mouth dropped in amazement, turning back around to ask Penelope how she had solved Georgie's healing issue but finding herself a little disheartened as she realised the other witch had left.
Penelope never had been good at goodbyes, so she couldn't blame the girl for wanting to leave before she witnessed Georgie and Josie's reunion. Josie looked longingly for a second at the spot where Penelope had been, her mind spinning with so much information before she felt familiar arms wrap themselves around her.
Almost instinctively, Josie threw her arms around Georgie and pulled her closer. Their lips connected with such urgency that Georgie was sure it must have looked like they thought the world was ending. They pulled back with a laugh, Josie placing her hands on either side of Georgie's face as she scanned the girl up and down to make sure that she was actually okay and nothing was a trick.
"Never do that to me again," Josie told her, slapping her firmly on the arm. Georgie flinched a little but grinned nevertheless, pressing her forehead against Josie's.
"Promise."
______
Georgie loved making promises, she did. She just didn't happen to have the best track record at actually sticking to them - something that the rest of her friends were just about to find out.
"You literally just said yesterday you weren't going to leave me again," Hope spat out, her eyes flashing in anger as she squared up to Georgie. The dark haired girl groaned as she spun around to look at Hope, having thought that she had gotten up early enough to leave without the girl knowing.
Behind her, Rafael was rubbing his eyes while Lizzie and Josie looked confused on why the duo were yelling at each other. Hope had obviously woken the twins and somehow happened to bump into a sleep walking Rafael on the way to stop Georgie from going through with her latest plan.
"I mean, you were literally about to lose your shit and likely expose us all so what else was I supposed to say?" Georgie snapped back, instantly feeling guilty and softening her voice. "Look, I don't belong here Hope. You all have this dysfunctional little family and I get that, but this isn't my home! MG literally ripped my throat open and all of you acted like nothing was happening, and you threw a PAGEANT while I was on my death bed!"
Lizzie stepped forward at that, disappointment written across her face as she looked at Georgie and the suitcase that was resting against her leg.
"That's not fair, you know that isn't fair!" Lizzie snapped back, Hope holding out her hand to try and silence Lizzie so she could continue her own ranting at Georgie. Alaric and Dorian had rounded the corner at this point, the men both looking on confused as they looked at the argument brewing between all of the supernatural teenagers in the middle of the foyer. "We're your family!"
"I DON'T HAVE A FAMILY!"
Georgie's chest heaved from her outburst, everyone looking at her in utter shock. She felt the tears well up in her eyes as she looked around at them all, the fury still burning in her stomach. A mix of jealousy, embarrassment and guilt caused her to look down for a second before she lowered her voice and continued.
"I don't have a family. I don't even know what it means to be a Lockwood - I never knew any of them and I'm not a Mikaelson, Hope. Forever and always means nothing to me, and I certainly don't need a pity family either. I don't belong here, so just let me go."
"Now, now, now," A new voice called out, everyone turning around to locate the speaker. "I'm sure you don't mean that about your family."
The front doors of the school were pushed open now, a rather human looking man dressed in what Georgie could only describe as golf gear entering and swinging a golf club at his side. She furrowed her eyebrows as she looked him up and down, noticing that his glowing green eyes obviously meant he was their next Malivore monster attempt.
"Oh here we go," Georgie muttered, her previous argument with Hope getting shoved to the side as they watched the man with glimmering green eyes enter into the foyer. Hope and Josie immediately turned on full defence, while Georgie simply crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
Lizzie and Rafael had risen to their feet from where they had been observing the argument between the three teenagers on the couch, also standing up ready for whatever drama their next Malivore monster was about to bring. Georgie honestly just hoped that this guy was about to be a monster who just wanted them to sing but she knew that was very unlikely, and that he was most likely here to try and find Landon just like the rest of the monsters..
"Who the hell are you?" Hope asked, her hands ready at her sides to cast an incantation if necessary. Josie moved slightly closer to Georgie, the hybrid forgetting for a moment about their argument and holding her hand out so that her girlfriend could siphon magic from her if needed. "We're kinda in the middle of something here."
"Is that really how you would address me? The TimeKeeper?" The man said, puffing out his chest as he used his golf club as a sort of walking stick, leaning against it and tipping his cap at the four girls and Rafael. They all looked between each other with a sigh before he furrowed his own eyebrows at their less than enthusiastic reaction. "I certainly expected a better reception for someone with the power that I possess but..."
"Look, dude," Georgie said with a sigh as she rolled her eyes. "None of us have any idea who you are or what you can do but you aren't getting that urn from us anytime soon - we don't have it anymore. Now that we've cleared that up, maybe you should boost on back to Malivore and go finish your round of golf or whatever?"
When the Malivore monsters had first started appearing, Georgie would never have tried to speak to them with such an attitude. But now that they'd had their fair share of experiences with them, she was going to admit that she was kind of over it now. She couldn't be bothered with all this at the moment, and she didn't particularly care for this 'Time Keeper's' golfing ability either.
Lizzie smirked a little at Georgie's attitude, knowing that her sarcasm was clearly rubbing off on the hybrid. Their attention was taken away from Georgie as the man walked closer to the group, holding out the golf club to the hybrid who had just questioned him about his sporting attire. They all shared weary glances as Georgie brushed past Hope - much to the tribrid's protests - and reached out for the golf club.
Just as her hand was about to make contact with the club, the rest started to yell out in protest as they noticed the smirk fall on the man's face and how his eyes seemed to glow even brighter, the magic that swirled around him now being felt by the three witches in the room. Rafael went to vamp forward and pull the Lockwood girl away from the golf club - but it was too late.
As soon as her hand met the metal, there was a blinding flash of green that caused the other teenagers to cover their eyes. By the time they had opened them again, Georgie, the golf club and the mysterious Malivore-rebirthed Time Keeper was gone.
"What the fuck?"
_____
When Georgie woke up, her head felt groggy and she felt a little nauseous. She wasn't quite sure what had happened, but as soon as she had touched the golf club she assumed that she must have passed out because she certainly didn't remember turning up to some old-fashioned looking building.
It seemed like she was standing in a common room type area, with its large ground and huge height. It was so unfamiliar to her, but she slowly turned in a circle as she took in the building with its huge stone pillars and ivy that ran around it to add to its elegance. To her right, a large set of stairs were sat that appeared to lead to a balcony that wrapped all the way around the courtyard area, the chandeliers above her causing her mouth to drop slightly in amazement.
But she didn't need to ask where she was, because she had been here before. She had been here only a few weeks prior - when she came to visit her new-found family. The large M symbol for Mikaelson was engraved into the stone pillars, the portraits hanging from the walls looking exactly like those that she had seen prior.
Yet it was different.
It almost looked... more lived in. The place seemed to hold a completely different energy than it had when she had been taken there by Freya to meet the remaining members of the Mikaelson family, it had seemed almost calmer. The paint seemed neater, there was food sitting on the table near her and the damaged pillars had seemingly been repaired so well that Georgie was amazed how renovated it all looked.
Yet that stupid golfing Malivore monster was nowhere in sight.
Looking down at her hands, Georgie was glad to notice that her bracelet was still wrapped around her wrist. She had been worried that it would somehow have been affected by whatever spell that he had cast on her, but thankfully the silver charm was still dangling tightly against her skin like it always did.
Realising that it was likely that one of them would be somewhere in the compound, Georgie took a deep breath before calling out Rebekah's name. She knew it was very unlikely that the blonde was still in New Orleans since her and Marcel didn't often spend time there anymore, but she also knew that if the Original was there that she would be able to hear the teenager with her hearing.
Just like she thought, the blonde woman appeared at the top of the landing, her eyes looking down at the girl with an expression that Georgie couldn't quite understand. There was no familiarity behind her eyes like there had been when they had last met, no kindness or warmth present. Georgie felt uneasy at the stare she was receiving, going to move forward towards the stairs as she noticed her biological aunt.
"Rebekah," she breathed, placing one foot forward as she moved to head up towards the girl. Before her second step was even able to touch the stone floor, she was slammed backwards against one of the stone pillars without a single moment of hesitation from her attacker. Georgie groaned, her hand touching the blood that was now on the back of her head from the collision, but paying little attention since she knew it would heal quickly.
Rough hands grabbed at the front of her sweater, lifting her up and slamming her back against the stone pillar once more. This time, the hands held her in place as she struggled against the force in panic. She wasn't sure why Rebekah wasn't helping her, but rather just watching with curiosity as Freya joined her at her side. Georgie looked up at them with begging eyes but neither of her aunts made any indication that they were going to help her.
Turning her eyes to look at who was grabbing her tightly against the pillars, her eyes softened before they widened, instantly recognising the man who was holding her against the stone from the photos that had lined the bar in New Orleans and the sideboards in her and Hope's room. His eyes seemed more piercing in real life, and he seemed a lot more intimidating than she had expected him to.
Regardless of the fact he had just vamped across the property to pin her against the wall, he did it with such an effortless ease that Georgie almost stopped struggling. Her eyes were no longer wide with fear but wide with confusion, recognition and utter marvel. His suit was immaculate and not a hair was out of place even with her trying to fight against him but Georgie knew now that her attempts at getting out of his grasp was pointless - she was a hybrid, yeah.
But the man holding her was an Original vampire - and he was meant to be dead.
Elijah Mikaelson didn't even break a sweat as he pinned her against the wall, although he seemed to be more careful with her since noticing that she was younger than he had realised when he had first slammed her against the wall. His eyes bore firmly into her own, scowling with little emotion as he tried to figure out why this teenager was calling out for Rebekah and had made it into their house without setting off any of Freya's boundary alerts.
"Who sent you?"
Georgie gasped a little, trying to find any words that she could to try and figure out what the hell was going on. She looked at him while breathing heavily still, her chest a little tight as she tried to calm down and say something, anything that would help preserve her life long enough to ask them what the hell was going on. How had they managed to hide that Elijah was alive from Hope for so long?
"And if I was you," a new voice called out that sent chills down her spine. "I wouldn't lie. My brother can be quite patient but I certainly lack that quality."
Georgie turned her head to the side to see the other man in the room, her mind having been so focused on the Mikaelson that was pinning her to the wall to not notice the other two that had entered the courtyard at the same time as the Original. Rebekah and Freya had walked down the steps now, standing on the other side of the room as Georgie's eyes adjusted to the sight of the two on the other side that were standing ready for attack.
The brunette woman was beautiful and the man was equally just as handsome. The power that radiated off them both was obvious even to her, but the man was more so intimidating than the woman. His smile was a little sickening, not meant to be friendly at all but obviously meant to make her uneasy. His hair was a light shade of brown and his eyes seemed to stare directly into her soul causing her to gulp a little as he walked closer while the woman seemed to stay where she was with her arms crossed.
"Klaus?"
The man chuckled as he looked between his siblings and Hayley Marshall, a sarcastic eye roll travelling through his eyes as he held his arms out in a fake welcoming gesture. This wasn't the Klaus Mikaelson that Hope had told her all about - this wasn't the man who loved to paint or would tell her all the fairytales she had asked for. This was the Klaus Mikaelson who was ruthless when it came to protecting his family - and she was the intruder to them.
"In the flesh, sweetheart," he barked out before moving to stand right beside Elijah who was still holding on to the teenager. "Now, answer my brother's question. Who sent you?"
Georgie had never experienced anyone trying to compel her, mostly because the wolf side of her prevented it from happening. She was told by Alaric that it would be likely that if she ever was to become a full hybrid that she would be able to be compelled only by those that were Original vampires - i.e Rebekah or Kol since they were the only ones left but until then she was fine. Never did she expect that the two Original vampires that she was sure were dead would be trying to compel her.
"You're on vervain," Elijah muttered, his hands grasping her a little tighter as he looked to Klaus before letting her go and letting the man take his place. Klaus' eyes shone a yellow as he tried to intimidate the teenager, knowing that a threat from the Original hybrid was likely to scare anyone into answering whatever he wanted.
"It's not vervain," Georgie answered back, taking a deep breath as she looked at Klaus' glowing eyes and allowing her own to glow. Hayley took a step forward at that, sharing a look with Klaus as he assumed that they had a rogue crescent wolf on their hands. Ever since the bonding ritual with Jackson, all of the wolves now displayed hybrid like abilities and this seemed like the prime example of that.
"You're not a crescent," Hayley said, her voice strong as she immediately shot down Klaus' unspoken theory. "I've never seen you before."
"I'm a hybrid," Georgie squeaked out, very very aware that Klaus' hand was hovering above her chest and was ready to rip her heart out if needed. "And I wasn't sent here by anyone, I don't know how I got here!"
While Georgie hoped that would resolve some of the tension, she knew that if she was any of the Original family and some teenager turned up claiming to be a hybrid and without setting off any of the magical alarms that Freya had in place, she too wouldn't just be willing to believe them right off the bat. But she knew that there was clearly a reason the Time Keeper had sent her here and she knew there must be some way she could explain to them who she was without messing things up. Klaus shrugged for a second, fed up of not receiving any answers.
"I guess if no one sent you, then no-one will miss you either," he replied as he rammed his hand into Georgie's chest without a second of thought. The rest of the Mikaelson's moved forward slightly, surprised at his actions but also not at the same time due to the fact there was a sleeping Hope upstairs that they would all do anything to protect.
Georgie spluttered a little as she felt like she couldn't breathe, blood tickling from her lips and down her mouth as she felt his hand squeeze at her vital organ. It was a pain like she had never felt before, and she could feel her skin trying to heal around his hand as he held it there for a moment, her eyes glowing yellow in utter pain as she yelled out. Her hand pushed at his shoulder, the last of her strength trying to get him to stop as her bracelet glinted in the light and caught Rebekah's eyes.
"NIK! Stop!" Rebekah yelled out, surprising them all as she sped over and grabbed on to his arm, causing the Original hybrid to grow in annoyance and turn to look at his sister. She grabbed on to Georgie's wrist, holding it up for the hybrid to look at before his eyes latched on to the bracelet, the yellow fading from his eyes as he released the Lockwood girl suddenly, taking a few steps back in confusion.
Hayley hadn't seen the great Klaus Mikaelson ever react like that. The sheer look of disbelief and shock that had erupted across his face was something she had only ever seen when finding out about Hope, a look of amazement caused by the small bracelet that wrapped around this teenagers wrist.
"Where did you get that?" Rebekah asked, her voice on the line between upset and angry. That bracelet meant a lot to the Mikaelson's - and this random girl wearing it wasn't setting any good tones for them with the belief in their minds about what it meant.
Georgie had slumped down to the ground after Klaus had released her, the caked blood on her face already agitating her as she tried to regain her breath from almost having her roommate's supposedly dead father pull her heart out. She looked up, her eyes faintly glowing yellow still as she tried to let the words fall from her mouth, still confused about what was going on. Why didn't Rebekah or Freya step in to help her? They'd told her she was included in the always and forever vow, so why weren't they helping her?
"My dad gave it to me," Georgie murmured, looking up at them and remembering that they knew her father. "Tyler Lockwood."
She wasn't entirely sure what reaction she should have expected, but it was certainly not the one she received. A fire seemed to light up in Hayley's eyes at the name, confusion in all of the Mikaelon's eyes minus Klaus who looked at her in complete disbelief.
"Oh, here to finish off what your father started and kill Hope?" Hayley spat viciously, her relationship with the former hybrid ridiculously strained since he had tried to kill them both only a year prior. Georgie furrowed her eyebrows, never having been told that her father had once tried to kill Hope.
"He tried to kill Hope?"
"Don't act like you didn't know," Hayley spat back, crossing her arms as she snarled at the young teenager on the ground who was still gasping for air. "And we're not stupid, we know he doesn't have a daughter."
Georgie looked between them all in confusion, not sure what was going on. Just before she could say anything else, another body entered the mix and caused them all to look up as Marcel strolled in, his eyes wide as he noticed the teenage girl curled up on the ground with Klaus' bloody hand matching the bloody mark in the middle of her shirt.
His number one rule was that they didn't hurt kids, and this alliance between him and the Mikaelson's was about to become ridiculously strained if there wasn't a perfectly good reason for whatever was happening in front of him. Klaus rolled his eyes as his adoptive son entered the room, knowing that this was just going to slow down them figuring out what the hell was going on.
"Klaus-" Marcel started, moving to the girl's side immediately as he crouched beside her and looked up at the man with such an anger. He didn't know what she had done, but the way she was cowering didn't sit right with him. It reminded him of Davina.
"Marcel, she's wearing her bracelet," Elijah interrupted, Freya and Hayley looking between the three Originals and Marcel in complete confusion. They didn't understand why the family was getting so worked up over the fact the girl was wearing a bracelet. "She's wearing Astrid's bracelet."
Of course, Hayley and Freya knew who Astrid was. Astrid Mikaelson was the only other hybrid Mikaelson, not related to the others by blood but by their always and forever vow. She was Klaus' half-sister but she was never treated like she wasn't blood. Elijah had told Hayley about Astrid, and Hayley knew fine well that Tyler Lockwood had been on and off with the Mikaelson hybrid until she had been killed only a few years prior.
"How did you get that?" Marcel suddenly asked, his voice changing instantly as he stood up from where he had been crouched beside the girl. Astrid had been one of his favourite Mikaelson's and while he wanted to hate her like he tried to hate the rest of them, just like Rebekah he would always have a soft spot in his heart for her.
There was a moment of silence as Georgie realised suddenly that this wasn't a dream. This wasn't some magic illusion that the Time Keeper had conjured up and she knew exactly why Rebekah and Freya had looked right through her without a single concern for their niece. They didn't know her - not yet anyway.
Klaus bit into his wrist, surprising them all as he crouched down and raised the bleeding cut to the young hybrid on the ground who was still healing. His demeanour had changed massively as he realised something that the others hadn't, pressing it to her lips and allowing her to drink his blood.
"Niklaus, what is going on?" Elijah asked, standing slightly in front of Hayley in a protective manner as he noticed the hybrid had a look in his eyes that was usually only reserved for his own daughter. "Why does she have Astrid's bracelet?"
He ignored them, holding out a hand and helping the girl to her feet. Georgie was scared at his sudden change of actions, but she hoped that this meant he wasn't about to try and kill her again. And as he could feel the blood that ran through her veins and the beating of her heart, Klaus knew that it was time him and the rest of the Mikaelson's had a long chat.
"What year is it?" He asked Georgie gently, the voice meeting the descriptions from the stories that Hope would tell her about how gentle Klaus was whenever he told her stories or spoke to her. "For you?"
"2028."
There was a heavy silence after she said that, Klaus nodding as he expected the answer to be so drastically different to what they all thought she was going to say. Everyone else seemed to be shocked at the date, and Georgie looked into Klaus' eyes and understood that he knew she wasn't from their time.
"How can that be?" Elijah asked, stepping closer to the girl before they all turned to automatically look at Freya who was walking closer to the girl in confusion. She had heard of whispers once upon a time about time-travelling magic but it was believed to have been wiped out by the ancestors thousands of years ago.
"There was once magic, but it's been dead for thousands of years," Freya tried to explain before Georgie shrugged, a little sheepishly as she looked around at the family not knowing if this would change anything in her future. "I didn't think it was possible."
"Yeah, well Hope and I have really been pissing off the wrong people," Georgie said before realising what she had just said. Everyone's heads snapped around to look at the hybrid, looks of surprise and gladness written across their faces. "I don't know how much I should be saying right now, you know, incase it changes stuff."
"She's safe?" Hayley asked, her voice so gentle that Georgie felt like she had to reply.
"Yeah, she's great," Georgie smiled, before playfully furrowing her eyebrows. "Although she's quite a messy roommate. You should maybe work on getting her to learn to organise her wardrobe better actually while she's young."
Everyone laughed lightly at that for a moment before Rebekah got impatient and turned back to Klaus, slight betrayal in her eyes as she looked between the teenager that he had gone from killing to suddenly welcoming with open arms without a second thought. He looked at his sister for a moment before turning around to look at the rest of his family, knowing that what he was about to tell them was going to change all of their lives forever.
"I think it's time I told you all the truth about Astrid's death."
________
Klaus had spent the better part of the evening explaining to his siblings that their other hybrid sibling was not dead like they had been believing - but rather Klaus and herself had faked her death so that she could life a happy, peaceful life away from all things supernatural with Tyler Lockwood. After a lot of confusion around why Klaus had allowed Tyler to live after everything he had put Hayley and Hope through - something that was explained in detail to Georgie much to her disgust at her father's behaviour - the Mikaelson's found out that the dark, gloomy hybrid had decided to let his sister have the life she had always wanted.
While Georgie was sure there was a little resentment about how Klaus had allowed his sister to cut all ties with the family whereas he had been dragging the rest of the Mikaelson siblings with him with no desire to let them escape this life (especially Rebekah), no one could blame him. It was either say goodbye to Astrid so that she could live with Tyler Lockwood, or say goodbye to them all as a vengeful Tyler surely wouldn't have stopped until they were all gone.
Georgie truly felt like her world was crushed. Her entire life she had lived by the idea that her father had been a great man, that he was one of the kindest souls to have walked the planet. He had been her knight in shining armour for those first three years of her life and while she didn't remember a huge amount of the memories they shared, she now felt like they had been tainted regardless of the intention for telling her the truth about what he had done to a pregnant Hayley in revenge against Klaus.
She'd spent her whole life being a Lockwood and being proud of that name, for it to feel like a burden in less than ten seconds. If that was what it meant to be a Lockwood, she didn't want it. She didn't want to be related to someone who would willingly harm someone and their unborn baby just to get back at their enemy. She didn't ever want to make any innocent bystanders suffer for something they didn't do. If that was what it meant to be a Lockwood, then she didn't want to be that.
Rebekah had managed to get her to explain how she had ended up where she did; albeit telling the girl to try and limit as much information about the future as they could. It was obvious that the girl had been surprised to see Klaus which didn't fill the man or his family with much hope but they simply chose to believe that it was because she was just surprised to see him there - not for any other reason. They didn't want to consider the alternatives.
Once they'd spent a good amount of time getting to hear about her life without giving away a lot of things, Georgie and Freya came to the conclusion that until they met Georgie naturally, the Mikaelson family couldn't interrupt in her life. They didn't know the consequences and they didn't want to stop this moment from having happened - even if Klaus was hugely apologetic for wrapping his hand around her heart.
Then in a puff of green smoke, the golf club that she had grabbed on to before had appeared at the side of the room. No-one quite knew what to say about it, although Georgie stood with enough certainty to tell them that it was her way home - it was how she got there and would be how she got home.
So she grabbed a hold of the metal without an hesitation this time, knowing where it would take her. Although, where she ended up wasn't the Salvatore School for sure.
Georgie would grab on to the golf club three times before she got home.
