LUCAS
(aka Lucy)
"May I ask what your doing?" Georgia hovered over a color coded map, at first I thought she didnt hear me.
"Analyzing the map, what does it look like?" I shot her a glare. She shook her head and went back to taking notes, so instead of prying further I went to find Lockwood.
I found her in the basement circling Floating Joe. Her hair was pulled back in a high ponytail, cascading down her back. She had on a black sports bra and black leggings.
"Morning Lockwood, I see your in the same place as I left you last night." I stood leaning against the doorway. She turned her head, a smile and a chuckle and she was back to the dummy.
"What can I say, I got bored." She said while keeping the dummy penned in between her sword. The air sang when she attacked, lunging forward, always spot on.
"Absolutely amazing," I called. "Spot on, beautifully conducted, just-"
"Your insane." She threw the sword on the ground, finally giving me her full attention.
"What? Me? No, well... maybe but thats not what matters!" I smiled, thought I knew it was nothing like her smile.
"It doesn't?" She cocked her head.
"Nope!" I began slowly heading towards her.
"Then what does matter?" She picked the sword up, throwing it back with the others. Before she turned around I pushed her against the wall, making her face me.
"You." I smiled.
"Kinda hard to do what your doing when your the shorter one." She grinned. I frowned.
"Oh nevermind..." she laughed behind me. Really laughed I mean, it made my heart stutter.
"Wait, don't leave!" Lockwood jogged after me.
"Why? So you can make fun of my height some more?" I mimicked her grin.
"No, I just get lonely down here..."
"Have you eaten today?" I asked suddenly, her smile faltered. Just a tiny bit, then she smiled brighter.
"Of course, why?" She shifted on her feet.
"Your a terrible lier, you know that right?" I grabbed her hand a began leading her towards the stairs. She didn't oblige. Of course she didn't, the last time we got on this topic and she refused to eat, we didn't talk for a week. A very long and painful week. But, it got her to eat, which was good. I guess.
"Yeah I know." She mumbled.
"Ill make you what ever you want." I glanced back to look at her.
She thought about it. "Eggs, and toast. But I can make the toast." She offered. I laughed.
"No, your not. The last time you tried you broke the toaster."
"Oh that was hardly my fault, it was old!" I chuckled, letting go of her hand.
After breakfast we sat in the living room, her reading a magazine, me, a cheap romance novel.
"Lucas?"
"Yes?" I glanced over my book, she had put hers down.
She opened her mouth, I could hear her voice falter in her throat, she shut her mouth.
"Oh, never mind. It was dumb anyway."
This got me intrigued.
"Lockwood, whats on your mind?"
"I said nothing, its fine."
"Angeline." I warned. She looked up at me, seeming very surprised at the use of her first name.
"Well.... you... do love me... right?" I stared at her.
"Very much, love."
"Ok."
"Is that all?" She looked down, then back up at me.
"No." She mumbled. I threw the magazine on the couch, and going to kneel before her. I placed a hand on her knee.
"Then continue, love." She smiled, but it was sad. She leaned forward and whispered in my ear, "Are you sure that this is entirely safe. You loving me I mean." She didnt pull away fully. She kept her face near mine, staring in my eyes.
"Im not going to let anything happen, you know that. And its not like your getting rid of me anytime soon," I grinned "plus, I have plans for you and I, how would like to have dinner tonight? Theres a nice restaurant on the corner of 3-"
"There it is again." She whipped away from me, crashing into the head of her chair. It rocked back, then landing on all fours again. I waited before speaking again.
"What is happening again?" I spoke slowly.
"Just like this morning, you making me breakfast. You keep.. agh!" She threw her hands in her face, breathing heavy.
"What do I keep doing?" My knee began to ache, so I switched my knee. Or at least tried to, but when I rose, Lockwood grabbed my sweatshirt collar, pulling me forward harshly. Her lips crashed into mine. She pulled away before I could actually register what happened.
"You take such good care of me, and I can't find a way to well, repay you for that, Im trying but you keep doing such nice things for me-"
"Lockwood, you don't have to repay me," i chuckled, reaching forward, caressing her cheek with my thumb. "Im your boyfriend, thats what I supposed do."
"Why?" She looked up at me.
I was confused about her sudden behavior, but I ruled it off as she wasn't really used to love and affection. Her parents and brother died when she was very young, leaving her lonely for so many years.
"Cause I like to. I want to spoil you, and you do repay me, just saying."
"How?"
"Your love is enough for me."
"Really."
"I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it." I smiled, her eyes welled up.
"Come here." I held out my arms. She jumped into them, causing me to crash back onto the floor. We laughed, hard.
Eventually we ended up cuddling on the couch. I had fetched a spare blanket from the closet, covering us both. She lay in my lap, head under my chin. I smiled, rubbing her back.
"So is it a yes?" She looked up at me. I could she how tired she was by her eyes.
"To what?"
"Our date."
"Oh right, yes I would very much like to go. Are we dressing casual or should I wear something nicer."
"Its a nice restaurant, so..."
"I thought you hated overly fancy restaurants, and fancy places in general." She looked at me. I grinned.
"I do, but I know you like them."
"You spoil me."
"That I do."
LOCKWOOD
There was nothing to wear! Absolutely nothing. All my dresses were either summer dresses or ball gowns. Maybe, just maybe, there was something in the back. I felt around, trying to find something.
"Ah ha!" I snatched up something, pulling it through. Some spare shirts fell on the ground. I examined the dress. It wasn't super fancy, which was good; (hey, random authors note, so I realized that im terrible at descriptions and although I hate putting random pictures in the middle of the story, I have no other choice. Heres our dress:)
Heh, kinda looks like a jelly fish... anyways...
It would work fine, so I snatched up black 1 inch heels, stockings and my makeup bag and disappeared into the bathroom.
One of the best things in the bathroom was the giant mirror, one of the worst things was the oversized counter in front of the mirror. After I dressed I had to climb onto the counter, which yes knocked off several other items on it, my toothbrush being one... in the toilet.
I made myself presentable, hoping it looked ok. Lucas told me he hated when I wore makeup cause it blocked my natural beauty or something. Because of this I almost stopped wearing it, I only did so on special occasions, and this was certainly one of them. As I stared at myself in the mirror I started to think of tonight. I dreamed of random conversations we would have and jokes we would share. I even had one single thought that stood out from the rest. Oh, but that could never happen.
I stepped out of my room, quickly avoiding Lucas's room and skipping down to the kitchen.
"No need to make dinner tonight, Georgia. Me and Lucas are going out."
"Oh, really? I guess ill make the chicken tomorrow the-" she turned around. Her mouth dropped.
"Is it too fancy? I didn't want to go overboard but none of my other dresses seemed fitting." I took a step closer to her.
"No, its perfect but... where in Gods name are you going that you need to dress like that." I opened my mouth to answer but Lucas beat me to it.
"No clue what the actual name is, something in french. Its a nice restaurant, I made sure of that. Woah..." He finally saw me, and I finally saw him. He had on dress pants and a crisp white dress shirt. He was fixing his belt when he looked up at me. I suddenly felt very self conscious.
"Damn..." He whispered. I laughed; it wasn't long till he strode over, kissing me till we couldn't breath.
"Im right here, oh nevermind." Georgia covered her eyes, turning around and focusing back on the food. "Ugh, I don't know if I can refreeze this, next time please tell me when your going out." She shook her head.
"Just invite Flynn(Flo) over, Im sure he would have no problem eating anything you offer." Lucas laughed, turned and kissed me on the cheek.
"Lets get going, don't wanna be late."
"You sound like me."
"Oh shut up." He smiled; looping our arms and tugging me towards the door.
Obviously when we say we went out for dinner, it was more of a late lunch. Every shop closed when even the first signs of darkness began to show, winter was the worst. It was still very bright out when we left, but when we arrived at the restaurant, that all changed. The lights were dimmed, candles burned brightly at every table, it was beautiful.
"Carlyle." Lucas said to the man at the front desk, he peered over the rims of his glasses at us, then down at the book before him.
"Yes, would you like a table?"
"No carpet for two please." I kicked him.
"Just joking, yes that would be nice. Table, not booth, like I specifically asked for." I kicked him again.
"What was that for?" He whispered to me while the man paged for someone to show us to our seats.
"Be nice." I hissed.
"I was being nice, I paid extra to reserve a table, Im going to get a table." He smiled at me. I tried not to smile back, but failed miserably.
"This has to be the most delicious pasta ive ever had. Dont tell Georgia I said that."
"My lips are sealed, and im happy you like the place. Now hurry up, we have somewhere else to go."
"What? I thought-"
"Nope, I have more planned for you my dear." Lucas smiled at me.
"You spoil me." I shook my head.
"I love spoiling you." He reached across and took my head in his. I blushed madly.
"And you must wear that dress more often. Im drooling, Lockwood."
"Shut up." She mumbled, mouth full of food.
"You know," he turned to look out the giant glass window, "A year ago from today if I had been told that I was going to be dating the girl of my dreams, I would have laughed."
My face lost all its color. A year from today. It was our anniversary. How could I have forgotten that!? Whats wrong with me!?
"Love, are you ok? You look a little sick." Lucas reached across to touch my cheek, I pulled back. My hand left his, I dropped my fork.
"Was it something I said?" He was now slightly panicking now, you could see it, hear it in his voice.
"Todays our anniversary." I whispered. Now Lucas lost color in his face.
"You didn't remember?" He looked hurt, so, so hurt. Tears welled in my eyes. Before I could speak he turned, raised his hand and called "waiter!"
"Everything alright, sir?"
"Cancel my... later reservations. And bring over the check."
"Lucas Im sorry!" We were walking home, it was starting to rain. No one else was on the streets anymore, curfew was 30 minutes ago.
"How could you forget, Lockwood? We talked about it like a week ago, I thought you'd at least remember." He didn't look at me.
"I know and Im sorry. It slipped my mind, I didnt mean to hurt you-"
"Hurt me?" Now he stopped. He turned towards me. "Lockwood, I've been planning this night for over a month. I wrote it all down, I made little notes, I called that place and paid for the best seat just for you. And you can't even remember?"
"I've never done this before Lucas! I've never had to remember these things!" I was crying now. I was trying so hard not to, to not let him see it but I couldn't hold it in.
"Lockwood, please don't cry." His hand cupped my face, he kissed me, gently.
"Sorry, its just, I was so eager and hearing you say you didn't remember really hurt." He reached around and pulled out a long velvet case.
"This is for you." He handed it to me. Inside of it was a beautiful rose gold and silver bracelet. I gasped.
"You-"
"Don't, just accept it." He smiled. He looked towards the sky, then began undoing his suit jacket. He threw it over my shoulders, turned and drew an arm around my waist. We walked home in silence.
"Sorry about today." I said, my head was on Lucas's chest. We were laying in my bed, half asleep.
"Dont be," he kissed the top of my head. " just relax, love."
LUCAS
This was the one. It was absolutely perfect. Silver band, three diamonds, coil like vines connecting them, it was beautiful.
"Shes a very lucky lady." The woman behind the counter said as she polished the ring.
"Yeah, only the best for her." I smiled.
"How long have you two been together?"
Well we've know each other for five years, dating for two."
"Aww." The lady smiled.
"Yeah tomorrows our anniversary."
"Good luck, dear. I know she'll say yes!"
"Thank you!" I said, my hand shook as I took the box, slipping it into my pocket.
At home I took it out, Georgia screamed.
"Its beautiful!" She screamed.
"That was my ear." I groaned.
"Suck it up!" She hit my arm.
"Love you too." I winced.
"Who do you love?" Lockwood called from behind me. I ran toward the stairs. Yeah that definitely wasn't suspicious, good job me."
"Morning!" I said, kicking the door open with toe and using my shoulder to flick on the light.
"Lucas!" Lockwood groaned.
"Breakfast, dear!" I plopped the food in front of her.
She sat up, rubbing her eyes.
"Whats the special occasion?" He picked up her fork.
"Ha ha, your so funny."
"Oh, thank you, but that doesn't answer my question." I felt my self go a bit tense. I shook it off.
"Well Im going to let that slide since you did just wake up, Happy Anniversary, darling!" I kissed her temple.
"Thats next week."
"No its not..."
"Its not?"
"No, hon."
"Oh god I did it again!" I yelled burying her head in her hands.
"No, no its ok. I get it, just a mix up of time." I kissed her cheek.
"Im sorry, I didnt this last year."
"That was year ago, what ever." I smiled. I forced her fork back in her hand and went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. When I got back she set her fork down.
"Done? Already?"
"Not hungry."
"Liar."
She sighed.
"Lucas Ive put on so much weight cause of you-"
"Five pounds is not a lot of weight." I sat down on the edge of the bed.
"Well, if I eat all of this, it'll be six pounds."
"Look," I grabbed her hand. "I dont care if you weight 110 or 200 pounds. I just don't want you starving yourself."
She looked down, a mumbled "ok" was her response.
"Ill try to lay back on the sugars, ok?"
"Ok."
"Love you." I kissed her temple.
"Love you too."
"Look at the sunset!" Lockwood cried. She gripped my hand harder, tugging me towards the lake.
"Woah, almost as beautiful as you." I said.
"Really?"
"Nah, you win by a long shot."
"Oh stop it!" I laughed.
"Hey Lockwood?" I said after awhile.
"Yes, dear?" I turned towards her.
"Do you love me?" I asked. My heart was pounding right out of my chest. M my head felt like it was made of helium. I was sweating, even with the cool breeze.
"Of course I do." She looked at me.
"Can you see yourself with me in the short future?"
"Absolutely!"
"And what about the long future? Years from now?"
"Of course."
I started to bend down, she watched me silently as I got down.
"Lucas." She started.
"Look-"
"No, you look! We've only been together for two year! Two years, Lucas. How can you possibly be asking already?" She looked mad.
Look what you've done. You've screwed it up, its all over now. Say good bye to your girlfriend. Those damn voices of self consciousness screamed in my head. Tears threatened to spill.
"You dont know what your doing, you cant marry me. Im- im damaged." She whispered.
"No, your not! You the best thing that ever happened to me, the love of my life, my world. Dont leave, please." I stood up again.
"I love you more than you can know, I dont wanna hurt you. Everyone ive loved got hurt cause of me."
"Thats not true, not one bit!" I hugged her, she cried.
"Of course I'll marry you, if your sure you want me." I cupped her face.
"Ive never wanted anything so badly." I kissed her, fumbling for the box.
"I like that on you."
"It's absolutely beautiful." She examined it closely.
"Your beautiful." I kissed her forehead.
"Your cheesy."
"Your mine."
"That works two ways you know."
"Yup, but you had my heart long before now, you stole it, afraid Im never getting it back now." She laughed.
"You'll just have to settle with my heart."
"And all your love as well? Oh I think I can be easily persuaded."
