#PlotTwist

I awoke suddenly, feeling as though someone was watching me. My eyes searched the room for the cause of my rude awakening. I found it in a tall shadow in the corner of the room. I could hear someone breathing. I was contemplating screaming when the being stepped into the light. I would know those catlike eyes anywhere.

"You know it's typically frowned upon to watch somebody sleep." I croaked. Glaring at Sherlock. He turned on the light.

"Sorry, I thought you would want to know my brother just called. They found the box." I sat up and grabbed my glasses.

"What was in it?" I said pulling on my glasses.

"It was locked." He smirked.

"What kind of lock?" I said getting out of bed.

"One I think you can open. Come and see." He said.

"I'll be right out." I replied.

As soon as I was dressed again I went into the living room. Mycroft sat on the couch and Lestrade had a very comfortable seat in the chair. Sherlock stood at attention by the door of the room.

"Ah Keyland." Spoke Mycroft. "How good of you to join us. We think you hold the key to this box here." He held the box out to me. It was, Beautiful The metal on the box was engraved with roses and in the top was the lock. It was no ordinary lock. It was precisely the shape of my mothers ring. The ring I had on a chain around my neck. I took the box and set it on the coffee table. I knelt down and pulled the chain up off my neck. I grabbed mum's ring and set it gently in the slot. I turned it to the left and the box sprung open. I jumped. Sherlock stood staring as I pulled a grey folder out of the box. I stared at it.

"Could somebody else open this. I don't think I can." I whispered. Sherlock sat down beside me cross-legged.

"May I?" He asked softly. I nodded and he gently took the file from my trembling hands. He flipped it open. And turned the page. He let out a soft gasp.

"What is it?" Mycroft asked

"I think we found our killer." Sherlock whispered. My eyes widened. Sherlock continued. "He is Mortimer's son."

"WHAT???" I gasped. Standing to my feet.

"The Birth certificate is right here." Sherlock said. "Yours too...Arabella."

"Let me see that."

Sherlock handed him the papers.

"Langley Ilan Jones, and Arabella Keyland McLaughlin."

"Is that everything in the box?" Mycroft asked me. I peered into the box. I almost said it was empty when I noticed another slot that would fit my mothers ring.

"Hold on a tick." I said taking my ring once more and inserting it into the slot. The box popped open. Inside it was two items. A normal USB stick and a small box with a USB attachment.

"What is it?" I asked Mycroft.

"Sherlock get your laptop."

"Why does it have to be mine?

"My laptop holds some very sensitive information on it. We don't know whats on this drive.

Sherlock scowled.

"Please Sherlock? For me?" I whined. Sherlock left the room grumbling under his breath. Mycroft shot a shocked look at me. At last Sherlock came back into the room and plonked the laptop down on the table in front of me. I slid it over to where Mycroft could reach it. Sherlock joined him on the couch, and Lestrade and I scooched around the screen. Sherlock logged in and we connected both the small box and the thumb drive. The screen read.

-Hello Keyland, scan your thumb to continue-

Then the box started to glow green. I rather reluctantly placed my thumb on the thumb pad of the box.

The screen went red. Then Mortimer's face appeared on it.

"Hello Keyland. If you are watching this it means that he found me, and I am Dead. I have left you the whole of my Crime Ring. You will be the new leader. I have made you a list of my enemies, they are your enemies now. Since I will not be able to tell you this anymore. I think I should tell you how your mother and I met."

Mortimer looks down at the ground as if struggling with his emotions.

"She had been a lab assistant to your father. But when she found out she was pregnant with you, she was afraid and quit her job. I found her begging on the streets with a baby. You." He clears his throat and continues. "I wish you could have known her. Your mother I mean. She was like no woman I had ever met. She was brave and kind and too good for me really. Sometimes you really remind me of her. I guess that's why I am always...so harsh with you." He stares into the camera. "Make good choices Keyland. I know you don't want this job. But this is who you are made to be. Goodbye daughter."

The screen goes blank. Then over 500,000. Files of encrypted data stream in.

"Well, that was eventful." Mycroft drones. "I'll have somebody decrypt this." he says taking Sherlock's laptop with him.

"Come on Lestrade." He says leaving.

"I'll be seeing you later then." Lestrade says grabbing his coat and scurrying out the door after him.

He slammed the door behind him and all was silent.

"Are you okay?" Sherlock asked concern lacing every word.

"No but I will be." I replied.
