Chapter two - Lies and Power Plays.
After a few -very boring- meetings with my lawyer. We worked through a plan that would, help the government catch all the criminals from my parent's ring, and allow me to achieve my dream of going to university. Anyways, I told Mycroft's People everything I knew, and he in turn came to visit me again.
I was staying at a hotel as my home was compromised. They had also stationed a guard outside my room, just in case of the murderer showing his or her face again.
Mycroft and I met at a restaurant for lunch. Definitely one of the fancier restaurants that I have ate at. I felt under dressed in my jeans and t-shirt. Mycroft pulled out the chair for me.
"Thank you." I commented. He nodded and sat across from me. We ordered our food and thanked the waiter.
"So I'm sure you are wondering what all you should do now." Mycroft observed, thanking the waiter for delivering our food.
"Seeing as I told you everything I know and yet you still called me here I assume you are fulfilling your end of the deal?" I mused.
"Very perceptive of you." He commented. "Yes I do have a deal for you. Your lawyer mentioned you wanted to go to secondary school. You have top marks and you have dealt with...unfortunate living conditions before." I wasn't sure where he was going with this. And I didn't like it.
"Yes but I don't see how this applies to my situation Mr. Holmes." I said impatiently.
"You see Miss Jones I have a brother who has...problems." I bit back a sarcastic comment as he continued.
"My proposition is, if you take care of him when he goes to college and make sure he goes to his classes. I will grant you protection." He looked down his nose at me. "Unless of course you want to deal with the repercussions of tattling on your fathers crime ring." He asked raising an eyebrow. "The government can only do so much. It seems to me, that you have made yourself a pretty little mess Miss Keyland." Mycroft jeered taking a bite of his pasta.
"I see." I said glaring at him, I hate people who abuse their power. I thought for a moment. "Why are you doing this?"
"I am doing this Miss Jones...Because I believe you are innocent." he Mused. "And as I said before I need somebody to watch my brother."
"Why me? Why not pay someone to watch him?" I fumed. "What is so wrong with your brother that you get a criminal's daughter to watch him???" I said crossing my arms.
"Its not so much that there is anything wrong with him, he has simply made some bad choices." Mycroft started.
"So he IS a user then." I interjected. Mycroft looked stunned as I continued. "I thought so. I noticed your reaction when I brought up drugs." Mycroft looked at me as if he was seeing me for the first time.
"You read people don't you?" he marveled.
"You could say that I guess."I confirmed.
"How did you learn?" he wondered.
"When you grow up in an abusive household, you learn quickly." I stated. Mycroft looked thoughtful. Suddenly he spoke again. "My brother isn't as socially keen as I am." I snorted. Mycroft glared at me as he continued. "However I have a feeling that you wont be bothered by that." He speculated.
"He has a temper, but he won't hurt you. I promise. Sherlock may be many things, but he is not a killer."
I felt a bit worried that he felt the need to tell me that specifically, but what choice did I have. I loved London, and I really needed a second chance in life. I sighed.
"So do we have a deal?" Mycroft ended. I looked at him as he extended his arm across the table.
"I'd like to meet him first if you don't mind." I hesitated. He awkwardly retracted his hand.
"Fine then...Let me see." He said grabbing his phone. "Mum insisted on having a family dinner Saturday, before Sherlock goes to school. Hmm... Well I suppose my parents might like to meet you anyway. I did tell them that I was going to find someone to watch after him."Mycroft said more to himself then to me.
"Saturday works fine for me." I said.
"Saturday it is then." he smiled.
