Chapter one - A Rude Awakening.
------------
My name is Keyland Jones. I am 18 years old. I may not know many things but I know this, what I have seen today, will change my life. Forever.
Blood. So. Much. Blood. More blood than I had ever seen in my life. Quite honestly I was appalled .
I stare out the window and watch as we pull up to the New Scotland Yard.
I stare at the white brick building and watch the Police car lights turn the stone red and white.
I stare at the bricks but I do not see them, all I see is my step-father and his girlfriend torn apart. An image that I'm am sure will never fade from my vision. I was only with Liem for half an hour. How could someone get into our house so quickly and tear them apart like that?
I know that I am in shock. That tends to happen after an experience such as this. I should worry about what will happen to me now that my step-father is dead, but the most pressing thing in my mind is this...Where is Liem? I flashback to what he said when we came back from our walk and found them.
{I Stared at the scene before me in shock. Liem turned to me and grabbed me by the shoulders."Keyland no matter what happens stay here, I cant protect you if I am in prison. I'm a wanted man Keyland. Call the police you have done nothing wrong. Trust me." With this he gave me a comforting hug and ran out the door. I could only stare out at his retreating figure in shock.}
I stare at my shoes as two officers drag me into the station.
I don't fight them. My legs had just stopped working. I blame the shock of coming home and finding your Dad and his... girlfriend dead on the ground. Not that I cared much. My parents ran the largest crime ring in London. Suffice to say they weren't good people. But I digress. Where were we? Ah right. So as the cops drag me through the station I dimly note the people around me. That woman over there is staring as I am dragged through the station. The man standing beside her talks in a quiet voice. Based solely on their body language I can tell they are talking about me.
The cops drag me into an interrogation room. They obviously want to know what happened. As do I. I want to know if I will ever be free of my parent's reach. If I can ever have a normal life. I look up from fiddling with my handcuffs as a man in his twenty's sits in the chair in front of me. His eyes are a dull shade of brown and he looks fairly young. Just married judging by how uncomfortable he looks with the ring on his hands.
"Hello Miss Jones." He says, looking at my file.
"Hello Lestrade." I say noting the fear and confusion on his face.
"How do you know my name?"
"When you stepped into the room the other cop mentioned your name. You are new at this aren't you?"
"Oh! Uh right then..." He says deliberately ignoring my jibe. "Do you want to tell me why we found you at the scene of your parents murder?" he says brown eyes searching my face.
"If you are looking for remorse on my face you wont find it. My father was abusive and cruel. I don't regret his death." his eyes widen "but I didn't kill them."
"I didn't say you did. But you were found at the scene of the crime. We want to know why."
"I had a fight with them left and when I came back, they were dead. What more do you want me to say?"
Lestrade sighs. "Did your parents have any enemies?"
"You are kidding me right?" I say after rolling my eyes."My parents ran the largest crime ring this side of London. And you are asking me if they had any enemies!?" He tries to calm me down, setting his hand on my arm. I glare at him till he removes his hand.
Then I address the glass behind him. "Could you perhaps send someone less stupid to question me?" suddenly the door burst open. In steps Mycroft Holmes. He is some big wig in the government at least according to my father. Step-father.
"Lestrade this is now a matter of national security. I will take over. You are dismissed." Lestrade stands awkwardly and heads out the door.
Mycroft sits in the grey chair in front of me. His eyes scan over me, They stop at the wound on my face. He raises an eyebrow.
"Keyland Jones." he addresses. I stare at him unfazed. "Daughter of Mortimer and Betty Jones." "Step daughter."I clarify. He looks me dead in the eye. I stare back at him. "You obviously didn't kill your parents." He says leaning on the table.
"Obviously." I reply.
"But you have had a fight with them recently. Tell me more about that." He says pointing to the slap mark on my cheek. He is very observant. Or maybe everyone else is just an idiot. Both are probable.
"It was around suppertime. Dad was sitting at the head of the table. Asking. No, telling me about my new role in the family business." Mycroft crosses one leg over the other, and raises his eyebrow, waiting. My eyes flicker to the table. "The crime ring that my father started has spores all over the country. Cargo ships full of guns and ammunition. People placed in the government, spies, murderers." I look at him again. "Human trafficking, Drug dealers." His eyes widen and he frowns at the last part. "Criminals the whole lot of them." I choke out.
"Go on." he says undeterred.
"I uh... told him that I didn't want in. I don't want to be a part of a group that hurts people." He nods.
"We started arguing. Betty called me ungrateful. Then dad slapped me, and I stormed out. By the time I got back they were dead. They were killed in a barbaric manner."
"You say barbaric. Why?" He asks studying my reaction.
"I found their..."I say tears springing into my eyes. "Their ribs were turned inside out..... There was blood everywhere."
"What did you do then?"
"I called the police." I whisper. He watches a tear as it runs down my face. I don't bother wiping it.
"Anything else you would like to add?" He asks nonchalantly.
"When I came home it looked like someone ransacked the house. Almost like they were looking for something." I added.
"Do you know what they were looking for?"
"No but I know where it is."
"Tell me."
"In the closet under the stairs. I've seen father go there when he thinks I'm not looking."
"Alright I'll tell the DI.." Mycroft says as he sits up tall. "Now, I don't know what you know about me. But lets just say that I occupy a minor position in the British government. We want to help you. However to do that I need you to help us."
"Help the government? Help them with what?"
"Getting rid of the crime ring that your father set up." Says Holmes standing up. "we will of course grant you full immunity." He added.
"I won't tell you anything until you call my lawyer." I interrupted. His eyebrows raised.
"Smart girl." He approved. "I will have them call your lawyer." He gestured to the window as he strode to the doorway. "I'll be seeing you Keyland Jones." He tossed over his shoulder.
