First Meeting
The evning after her adventure, Coleen was spending in her bed. Jamie picked her up to the hotel and before she went away, gave her a piece of advice.
'Try on the northen area, this was the place we first saw her.'
'Okay. Thank you, Jamie. Thanks for everything.'
'Your welcome! Good luck.' he winked and drove away, leaving her at the hotel's doorstep.
Coleen ordered supper and asked waiter to bring it to her room, then went upstairs and took long and hot shower. When she came back to the room, supper was waiting for her. She ordered lasagne instead of haggies, because she still wasn't sure if she want to try that dish.
Putting on her warm socks, she looked at the display of her phone. Thank gods she hadn't brought it with her this morning, otherwise it would lay on the bottom of the lake now.
There were some messages form parents and her friends and also one missed call from Carl. First she answeared the messages, then ate the supper. It was highly likey that talking with Carl could upset her and she wouldn't have appetite then.
'Coleen? Is that you, honey?' she heard her boyfriend voice on the phone.
'Hi Carl.'
'How are you, my little mermaid?' he asked tenderly. Coleen hated when he called her names like that. Before she could answer him somehow, he continued 'Listen, babe, I'm sorry, but you know I was right. As a couple we should go to the holidays together.'
'I don't...'
'Wait! Let me finish...'despotic as always, he didn't let her say a word 'I don't want us to argue, about such details. As I said we should go togehter so I decided I will come to you baby.'
'Wait! What?!' yelled Coleen. She wasn't expected such a turn of events.
'I'm comin' babe. I have a flight tomorrow.'
'Are you fucking kiddingme?! No! No! No! No Carl, you are not coming here!'
'Why? Don't you miss me?'his voice became softer and more sexy, but it didn't effect Coleen, not anymore.
'In fact I don't miss you at all, Carl. And I don't want you here, sorry.'
After short silence, Carl spoke again 'Have you just say what I heard...?'
'I'm sorry I tell you that in this way, but I think it's over and it makes no sense to pretend. We failed, all feelings which was between us are gone now.'
There was silence again on the other side of the line.
'You met someone! I can feel it.' finally he scrowled 'You know if there is another man I will kill him, I swear.'
'Oh Carl, I don't have energy nor willingness to talk with you like that. If you can't understand that I don't want to be with you anymore, it's not my problem. Bye.'
Coleen get angry as hell, when she put down the phone. She could predict that Carl just wanted to put the collar on her neck. Again.
'Is thaur somethin' wrang, lass?' the waiter asked her at the breakfast.
Only one thing was wrong, and Coleen inmediately told him.
'So if some stiupid guy come here and will be looking for Coleen Warren, just tell him I left this morning. Will you do this for me?'
'Ay coorse, mah hen.'waiter nodded. 'Nae problem.'
More calm, Coleen ended her meal and went out heading to the northen area of the lake, as Jamie adviced her.
This day was a way colder than previous one. Coleen immediately regreted that she hadn't worn extra pair of socks, however she decided not to turn back, becouse it brings bad luck.
She did her observation from the ground this time, and wandered around the lake on foot. Penetrating every inch of the shore and every cave in area Jamie had suggested, again she found nothing. When she was about to get back to the hotel for lunch, her phone rang. For a terrible moment, she thought it was Carl and her heart stopped. But she sighed with relief when the display showed Jamie's name. Yesterday they exchange their numbers, just in case.
'How's your reaserch doing?' he asked, with his nice and so polite voice.
'Not very impressive.'Coleen shrugged, forgeting that he can't see her.
'That's a pity, but don't lose faith. Maybe you need some supplies? And by supplies I mean food. I could bring you something, just tell me where you are.'
Twenty minutes later, he was there, with hot coffees, hamburgers and chips.
'I bring you also a blanket, if you get cold.' he said, handing her heavy tartan fabric.
They made a little picnick over the fallen tree trunk and were eating in silence for a while
'I must admit you have great timing, I was going to get back to the hotel.'
'I thought, you may need to eat second breakfast in some pleasant company.' he winked. 'And I suggest you better not go back to the hotel right now.'
Coleen frowned, looking athim.
'Why?'
'If you value your peace, just wait till the evening.'
The girl stopped chewingher food.
'Oh no. Is my ex-boyfiriend Carl there?'
'I don't know who he is, but this guy was asking about you, quite insistently. Gavin told him you left yesterday and also to buzz off, but he's still there. He called me when I was driving here, and told to keep you away until he will get rid of this guy.'
'Gavin? Is that this nice waiter?' Coleen asked with smile.
'Yes. We know each other very well. Yesterday he saw I picked you up to the hotel.' Jamie shrugged.
'And he called you, to keep me away, so I won't met Carl? It's nice of him.'
'Yeah, he's very carring person. You shouldn't be worried when Gavin's around.' Jamie took last bite of the burger and stood up. 'I have to go now, but later I will check if your ex leave the hotel and call you.'
'Alright. Thank you Jamie! You are my angel.'
He giggled and went to the car, waving goodbye.
Coleen sat near the shore, wrap herself up in a blanket Jamie gave her and began to look at the sufrace, waiting for Nessie. Of course nothing happened. Only strong wind began to blow and made little waves, so spoting the monster was even harder. Sipping the last drops of, now cold, coffee, Coleen took binoculars and stare into the water. How bad she had lost all her data. She had to buy some notebook and begin again. Now she could made a diary of observation, though there were nothing to observe so far.
She put binoculars down and sighed with surprise. There was definitely something in the water near her, staying in the dead point of binoculars and now hid in thewater. She saw the enormous flipper dissapearing in the depth.
It had to be her. The monster. Probably she was observing her too. Coleen stood up and went nearer to the lake. The tops of her shoes almost got wet, but she didn't mind it, silently calling Nessie to show up again.
'Come on, just a little bit of head maybe, or your tail.' she whispered, biting her lip.
The wind stopped blowing, and the forest behind her back, fell silent. There was something weird happened, something unnatural and extraordinary, she felt it in her whole body. In this moment time stoped and the whole Earth ceased spinning around for a while, just for Nessie to show up to her.
Coleen, to her astonishmet, ramained calm, and stood on the shore, while the huge thing came on from the water. First she saw big head in floating shape, long neckand spine protruding from the waves.
She gasped in delight, admiring the creature beauty. Only thing which she could compare Nessie with, was water dinosaur, called plesiosaurus.
The monster had large teeth and strong, frightening body, Coleen now understood, that it migh wake up terror in people who saw it.
Nessie squeak quietly, staring at Coleen with hers, pale eyes. The girl considered it as a greeting and replied:
'Hello' in weak voice.
Nessie splashed a water with her flipper, and made weird sounds, like bird's hawking. She looked at Coleen like she wanted to play with her.
'I can't go into the water. It's too cold for me.' the girl shrugged.
Nessie snorted, just like a human, and disappeared in the water.
'No! Don't go, please.'Coleen, didn't mind any more if she drenched her shoes and steppedinto the lake, following the monster. On the shore, water was shallow, only to her knees. To her surprise, it was quite warm. In fact warmer than it should be. Something telled her that, it could be because of Nessie magical powers.
Coleen saw her, a few yards away, swimming and jumping out of the water, obviously to showed off in front of the girl. She giggle and taking of the jacket and boots went further with yell 'I'm comin'. Wait!'
While swimming to the creature, Coleen for a while, was worried if no one would see them, but when the monster swimmed under her and gave her underwater lifton her back, Coleen decide, she didn't give a fuck.
It was fun. The greatestfun in her entire life, though seemed unrealistic.
Nessie acted highly inteligence, like she would play like that with people often. Considering what Jamie had spoken, it could be true.
Coleen clinghed tightly to the creature's neck and took deep breath, then Nessie dived, swimming faster than any boat can. The girl yelled with joy under the water, letting all the air from her lungs out.
'Fuck!' she thought inpanic. However Nessie, just as she was guided by some mental connection with Coleen, immediately swimed to the surface.
'Thanks l-lass!' sighted Coleen, hugging the monster neck, and gulping the air.
Nessie made sound, which sounded like she was unsatisfied with hers companion stiupidity. She began to swim slowly, on the surface and letting Coleen to relax.
The girl lost the sense of time, and notice how late it was, when the sun got down, and twilight came, making the lake looked like the bowl filled with liquid gold.
'I'm sorry. I have to go...' she whispered to the monster, looking her stright into eyes.'Maybe Jamie's trying to call me... Could you pick me up to the shore again?'
Nessie murmured dissatisfied, but swimed to the lake edge, where Coleen left her stuff.
'Thank you' the girl stood up on the shallow, and turned around to face the creature 'I hope tomorrow we will also meet?'
But Nessie had already gone, and Coleen doubted if all this experience was real.
