{Chapter Two}

Lizzy started to walk deeper and deeper into the street. The farther she walked, the more lost she was. "Ok! I give up!" Lizzy finally Yelled. All seemed lost until she felt something tugging on her skirt.

She whipped around and saw a familiar face. A poodle, everyone knew her. Sunshine. Lizzy petted the dog. It was funny her name was Sunshine because the dog's brother is the very grumpy. Sunshine tugged on her skirt urging Lizzy to follow her.

With nowhere else to go, Lizzy followed the dog. Lizzy followed her until the world became familiar again. To Lizzy's surprise the dog brung her to her house! "Good dog!" Lizzy patted Sunshine's head. Lizzy sighed to herself and opened the door.

To her surprise, her her stepdad was there reading the evening paper. "Where is your mother and your sister?" He didn't look up. "They're at a restaurant." Lizzy replied. She wasn't lying. "Why aren't you at there with them? How did you get home?" Her stepfather asked, now peeking  up from his perfectly neat paper.

"I wasn't feeling well, and I walked. It's not far from here really." Lizzy said smoothly. Her father raised his eyebrows but didn't question. "Oh yeah, can I ask you something?" Lizzy peeped. Her father nodded. "Do you know what this is?" She Asked handing him the Hogwarts invitation.

Mr. Ransack read the paper. Once he was done he looked furious. "WHO GAVE YOU THIS?" He roared. Obviously he didn't like the contents. "You wouldn't believe it! It just flew right to me!" Lizzy answered. Her father ripped the letter into a million pieces and threw them into the fireplace.

"No witchcraft in this house." He said sternly and picked up his newspaper. Lizzy was shocked. She just wanted him to see what it was, not rip it into shreds! Next time Lizzy new not to show things like that to her father. Lizzy cautiously walked upstairs to her room, not wanting to anger her father by making to much noise.

Lizzy's room was the most plain room in England. Beige walls and plain sheets. Her stepsister would always want to redecorate her room whenever Lizzy wanted to decorate hers. She stopped trying a long time ago. She plopped down on her plain bed and sighed. After her sister and mother got home, she was going to be in so much trouble.

Lizzy had to all the chores for the rest of summer holidays. It was understandable considering she ran away, made a ruckus in a public place, and showed her stepfather something she knew was going to get him into his little temper tantrums.

Ever since Mr. Ransack ripped up her letter new ones have been popping up in the most peculiar places. Like the fireplace, windows, and even the oven! Anytime Lizzy found a letter, she kept it. She stashed them in her sock cabinet. July 31 was only one day away.

She decided to write back to the school. Lizzy knew that her mother wouldn't want her to go so she had to improvise. Once she finished her chores for the day she rushed up to her room. She grabbed a quill and a piece of parchment.

     Lizzy wrote, Dear Hogwarts,

I am glad to accept your invitation to attend your school. Do not worry, my parents have totally approved of me going. They just can't write very well so I normally have to write things for them. May you please send a list of school materials, where we can get them, the directions to to the place we need to go to get them, and how to get to the school.

    Yours sincerely

         Lizzy Carter

It was perfect! She took out one of the Hogwarts letters and took the letter out. She kept the envelope and slipped her note in there. She scribbled over the address that was already there and just wrote, Hogwarts. Like a crazy person, she opened up her window and threw the letter out into the wind.

She closed her eyes tight and hoped that it reached her destination. "LIZZY, GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE!" Cassandra Yelled. Lizzy rolled her eyes. Every since the restaurant incident Cassandra has gotten really annoying. "I'M COMING!" Lizzy yelled back. Lizzy did a little prayer and ran downstairs.

When she came downstairs Lizzy found her mom and step dad sitting all formal like on the couch. "We would like to talk to you about something." Her mother said. Lizzy gulped. Whenever grown ups used that quiet tone you knew you were in trouble. "Take a seat Elizabeth." Her step father pointed at the empty couch facing them.

Lizzy quickly took a seat. "Am I in trouble?" Lizzy peeped hoping for the best. Her mother and stepfather looked at each other. "Of course not honey." Her mother said softly. She picked up a Hogwarts letter. "I think you should go, your father would've wanted you to."

She always showed her a piece of parchment. It was a letter that confirming that she was going. Lizzy's heart beaten faster than it has ever beaten before. "Thank you mother!" Lizzy yelped and ran upstairs to her bedroom. Leaving the rest of them with confused faces.

Now how was she going to get out of that one? Maybe she could write a note saying it was a prank from a friend? Yeah! She grabbed another piece of parchment and a quill and quickly wrote a note explaining that she just found out that someone sent a note confirming her stay that was a lie.

Lizzy grabbed a Hogwarts letter took the envelope, placed the note inside, and once again threw it out into the wind. Then she quickly ran downstairs and took her seat like nothing happened. "Is there anything else you need?" Lizzy Asked. Her mother nodded. "Two things Elizabeth. One, what's with all the recent outbursts?"

Lizzy just shrugged. There were no explaining them. "Second, I hope you sent a note explaining your confirmation note was fake. That was very bad what you did Elizabeth Carter." Her mother explained sternly. How did they know? Lizzy asked herself. She was in her room, all by herself.

"Thank goodness Cassandra told us what she saw, or we would've had no idea!" Her mother patted Cassandra's head. Like the dog that girl is. Lizzy hated Cassandra even more. In a matter of a day she went from a fun sister to a the worst person ever.

"I already sent a letter." Lizzy mumbled. "Brilliant!" Her step father all of sudden said. Since when did he want to talk? There was an awkward silence. One question still remained, was she really a witch? It wouldn't make sense. None of her parents had any magic, or she thought. Why would she just getting her magic education?

Now she had many questions. "We will get your school supplies tomorrow, it's time for your chores." Mr. Ransack said pushing back in his chair. Lizzy nodded and everyone went their separate ways. Mr. Ransack pulled out a newspaper, Cassandra started up the television, her mother took out a book, and Lizzy started wiping off the table.

Lizzy just hoped that this Hogwarts wasn't a hoax.

Lizzy didn't understand. She didn't understand how her mother knew where to get her supplies. She didn't understand how she knew how to use some secret code to get to a place called Diagon Alley. "Three up.....two across....." her mother muttered. Once she found the right spot she tapped the brick three times with her finger.

"Stand back Elizabeth." A hole started to form. It got bigger and bigger. A minute later, they were facing a gigantic archway onto a cobbled street. "Elizabeth Carter, welcome to Diagon Alley." They walked through the hole and as soon as Lizzy looked behind her. The hole was gone, like nothing happened.

Her mother took out the envelope for Lizzy's Hogwarts letter but took out another paper. "This is your supply list. Can you keep it for now?" Her mother slipped the paper into Lizzy's hands. Lizzy hasn't noticed a supply list before, to her surprise it read:

"We can get all of this here?" Lizzy Asked bewildered that all of this even existed. Her mother nodded. "Let's get your uniform first, I think that's the most important." Her mother said looking around. Then she pointed at Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. They walked in together.

"Lizzy, give me the list and I'll get your books." Her mother said. Lizzy handed her mother the list and waved goodbye to her mother. She walked up to a woman she assumed was the owner of the store. Madam Malkin was a squat, smiling witch who dressed all in mauve.

"Hogwarts dear?" She Asked before Lizzy could say anything to her. "Come with me, another young lady like yourself is getting fitted up right now, in fact." A girl was standing on a footstool while a witch pinned up her dark robes. Lizzy stood on a stool right next to the other girl and Madam Malkin started to pin up her own robes.

     "Hello!" The girl chirped.

     "Hi." Replied Lizzy.

     "Hogwarts too?"

     "Yes."

The girl seemed like the cheerful type. "My name is Maxine, yours?" The girl tried to stick out her hand but the witch who was pinning up her robes smacked her hand down. "Elizabeth, but people call me Lizzy." Lizzy Said. "Nice to meet you Lizzy! Do you know what house you'll be in? I think I'll be in Slytherin, my whole family is in that house."

What did she mean by house? Lizzy didn't want to sound like she didn't know anything so she said, "I think I'll be in Slytherin too, it's so cool." Maxine nodded in agreement. "Well we really can't say anything, nobody knows what house we'll be in." Maxine explained. Lizzy nodded.

Lizzy hoped to be friends with this girl when they go to Hogwarts. She seemed really nice. "You both are done." Madam Malkin shooed them off. She met her mother at the door. "I already payed and got the rest of your supplies." Her mother said holding up what it seemed like a thousand of bags.

Her mother gave Lizzy five hundred of them and held the rest. "Now all we need is your wand. Oh! Maybe we should get you a pet. A gift to help you through this craziness." Her mother looked at the list. Lizzy didn't argue. Her and Cassandra always wanted a bunny but their parents always declined.

Her mother lead her to a place called Ollivanders. "This is where you'll get your wand." Her mother explained like a tour guide. Lizzy couldn't believe it. She'll be getting a real magic wand!  She'd get to do actually magic with it. It was a very shabby and small store. As they walked in a man that seemed like a giant with a boy about her age just walked out. It bewildered Lizzy that a man could be that huge.

"Good afternoon." A voice rang. Lizzy jumped and almost dropped her five hundred bags. An old man was standing before her, his wide, pale eyes made the gloomy store shine. "Hello?" Lizzy Said. The man looked at her, not the normal type of look but it was like he was looking I to her soul.

"Ah, Elizabeth Carter, I'd know I'd be seeing you soon enough. You have your father's eyes and I can see your mother's hair." He looked at her mother, who just stared back at him. "I remember when your father first came here to get his wand, 8 inches, bendy, made out of  Alder. Very good for transfiguration." Lizzy was very shocked. Her father was a wizard? That would probably explain her magical part of the family.

"My father was a wizard?" Lizzy Asked. Ollivander nodded, "A very good one, his death was such a same. "Well, Miss. Carter what is your wand hand?"

"I'm left handed, if that's what you're asking."

"Hold out your left arm." Ollivander measured everywhere, from shoulder to finger, wrist to elbow, knee to armpit, and round her head. "You'll get a wand that has a core of a different magical substance. We use unicorn hair, phoenix feathers, and dragon heartstrings. No two wands in this world is same, Miss, Carter."

Lizzy couldn't wrap her head around it. Unicorn hair? Dragon heartstrings? She thought she was just getting a wand. "Try this one Miss. Carter. Ten inches, phoenix feather, and made out of yew. Give it wave." He handed the wand to her. Lizzy flicked it and Mr. Ollivander grabbed it out of her hand.

"This one should do. Holly and unicorn hair, ten inches." Lizzy waved it and warmth filled her fingers. Blue sparks filled the air like fireworks. At least it wasn't silverware this time. "Perfect!" Mr, Ollivander cried. Her mother did a little clap. Her mother payed the man seven weird coins and they left the shop.

"I forgot to ask, does the wizard if world have the same currency as....." Lizzy couldn't find the word, she wasn't sure if she even knew the word. "Muggles dear, the term is Muggles. And no, I had to trade some muggle money for wizarding currency." Lizzy nodded. "Now it's time to get your pet." Her mother said with a smile. Her mother once again lead her to a store. It was filled with owls, toads, and cats. "I recommend an owl, its used as a messenger." Lizzy shook her head, owls were very creepy.

Her eyes laid on a white cat with blue eyes. "Can we get that one?" Lizzy Asked pointing at the cat. Her mother slowly nodded clearly not happy with her choice. They payed for the cat and left the store. "What are you going to name it?" Her mother asked backing away from the creature. "I like the name Diamond." Lizzy Said rubbing the cat. Her smiled and they walked off.

Lizzy they made their way out of Diagon Alley and eventually back home. Lizzy smiled to herself knowing that soon, she would be in a entirely new world.
