{Chapter One}
The Carters owned a big house on Owners Avenue. Everyone knew the Carters were a perfectly normal family, with perfectly normal things. A little to normal for some people. Everyone also knew poor Lizzy Carter. Her father died in his own home when she was just four years old.
Her mother remarried to a mean spirited man. Mr. Will. He brought along a daughter from his previous marriage that was too demanding. Before her mother got remarried they weren't such a normal family. Mr. Carter was the town's looney. People suspected that the man did witchcraft but his wife always brushed it off as nothing.
Before her father's death, the town knew Elizabeth as a happy little girl who was always went to the swings in the little park down the road to read. After her father's death she still went to the park to read but wasn't as cheerfully, and she barley read any fantasy books like she used to.
Today Lizzy sat on her normal, the last swing on the far right reading a mystery novel. She lightly tapped the pavement with her foot as she read. "Lucy! I know you killed Mr. Burlington!"The detective yelled at the woman so graciously sobbing on the floor. He was finally going to solve a case. "I didn't do such thing!" The Lucy yelled back from her spot on the floor. "Confess woman! The bloody gloves were found in your bedroom!" The Lucy laughed and shook her head. "I was at the bar with my fiancé that night, everyone knows tha-" The woman was cut of by fear. "What?" The detective asked. He turned around and found the culprit with his gun pointed at the detective's forehead.
The book ended. Lizzy knew that Lucy wasn't the culprit, she was to fragile to hold a knife. Lu looked up at the auburn sky. That was her cue to get home. Lizzy hopped off the swing and started walking. Her identical twin braids twirled around her face with the wind blowing so vigorously. She walked across the neighborhood until she reached 34 Owners Avenue. She stepped inside her house and smelled something burning.
She tracked the smell to the kitchen and found her stepsister furiously trying to turn off the stove. "What are you doing Cassandra?" Lizzy Asked watching, amused at her sister's cluelessness. "I'm trying to turn off the stove! Would you care to help before the whole place burns down?" Cassandra Asked furiously. Lizzy turned the knob on the stove and the fire went dull.
"This is why I should do dinner." Lizzy scoffed, folding her arms. "It's not my fault that mum wants us to take turns." Cassandra rolled her eyes and started stirring whatever was in that pot. "Whatever, what are you cooking anyways?" Lizzy asked staring at the liquidity mixture. "Lentil soup." Cassandra answered proudly.
It looked nothing like lentil soup. But Lizzy didn't want to say anything when her mother walked in. "What is that atrocious smell?" Her mother asked. She had her hand to her nose and started to fan the air with her hand. Lizzy couldn't help but let out a little snort,"Cassandra is making lentil soup." Lizzy explained. Her mother immediately took her hand away from her nose. "It's fine, I can always make another one." Cassandra said clearly getting the message.
"That's alright Cassandra, we can always go out." Her mother Said quickly. Lizzy groaned mentally. She didn't want to out to eat. There was one place her mother just loved but she just hated the workers would always give you judging stares. Cassandra nodded eagerly and Lizzy shrugged.
Ten minutes later they were all piled in the car and on their way to the restaurant. The restaurant was an old place with broken lights and trash everywhere. Lizzy couldn't understand why her mother loved it so much.
When they walked in they were greeted by staff. They would just stare at her, not her mother, not her sister, just her. Apparently they were the only ones there, they sat themselves down and ordered. "Mum, do you know why people here always stare at me?" Lizzy Asked solemnly. Her mother smiled, "They only stare because they think your pretty." Cassandra shook her head. "It's because they think you're a witch." Lizzy raised her eyebrows and her mother looked her sternly.
"Why would you say that?"
"Because she's a witch."
"I'm not a witch!"
"Yes you are! Just look at you!"
"Shut up- "
"Enough!"
"Cassandra why on earth would you that?" Her mother asked. "Look at her! The super pretty hair, everyone stares at you, and weird things happen you are around!" Cassandra finally Yelled. The room became quiet. Lizzy stares at her step sister. The same step sister that she shared secrets with, cared for, and kept dear to her heart. That same step sister just called her a witch to her face.
Suddenly all the forks around the room rattled and started to fly around the room. Cassandra screamed and ducked, the workers were running around trying to catch the silverware, and her mother covered herself with her purse.
About two minutes later the silverware fell down on the floor. Lizzy looked around in horror and fled from the restaurant. Cassandra came from under the table and her mother gave her the death stare. Lizzy ran from the restaurant, she didn't stop.
She ran and ran until she reached a pole. She teamed against it and slid down. She hugged her knees. What did she just do? She had no way home and she had no idea where she was. Cool move Elizabeth. That stupid Cassandra, can't keep her mouth shut. She shut her eyes, she hoped the thing that made her make forks fly everywhere would get her home.
She concentrated on her house and strained. No luck. She sighed, and closed her eyes. All of a sudden Lizzy felt a twack in the back of her head. She immediately opened her eyes. She saw a letter addressed to her. Who would give her a letter?
Lizzy opened it and it made her gasp.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL
of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(Order of Merlin, First Class, Grand Sore, Chf. Warlock,
Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards)
Dear Miss. Carter,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardly. Please find enclosed a list of necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We await your owl by no later than July 31.
Yours sincerely
This was the wrong Elizabeth Carter. Lizzy threw the parchment on the floor and continued evaluating on how to get home. All of a sudden another letter hit her on the back of her head. Maybe it is for me?
But it couldn't be for her, she wasn't a witch. Maybe she had superhuman powers, but wasn't a witch. Witches curse people's mattress's to have a bad marriage and things like that. There could possibly be a school for people to learn how to do things like that!
And we await by your owl? What on earth does that mean? It was July 29 so she doesn't have much time. She stood up and kept the second letter. Maybe this school would help her not make silverware levitate? She could only know if she kept on moving forward.
Yayyy first chapter is over. How do you think of it? I know it was a bit fast paced but....
How do you think Lizzy is going to get home.?
Will Lizzy go to Hogwarts?
What happened to her father?
All those questions will be answered soon. Just enjoy life for now xD
(Yes Max from Stranger things is the girl in the cover.)
