Chapter 2

Maxine's POV

"Who are you, what the heck are you doing here, and why are you shirtless!?" I demanded him to answer me.

"I live here, duh," he says and takes a bite of his apple.

"Wha-- Huh?" I was confused. "Y-you live...here?" I was shocked. How could this be?! The guy who I asked directions from earlier is living in my condo? That can't be! As he was finishing up his apple, I took out my phone and called my mom. She'll kick him out for me.

Her phone rang a couple of times until she picked it up. "Yes, dear?"

"Um, Mom, why is a there guy here in my condo?" I asked.

"Oh, he's there already?"

"What do you mean?" Does she know him?

"He's living with you. I assigned him to stay at your place," Mom clarified.

"What?!" I couldn't stop myself from shouting. "Mom, what the heck is going on here?!" I needed an explanation, and now she's just calm and happy about this weird situation.

"Why? Is there something wrong?"

"Mom, I can't live with a stranger! I barely even know him. And it's kind of dangerous for a guy living with a girl, you know. I don't trust him."

"Well, you're right," Yes! Mom agrees, "but I don't feel at ease with you by yourself. Someone has to protect you."

"So you asked him to guard me?" I groaned in disappointment. "But Mom!"

"No buts, dear. Just give him a chance, ok? You gotta get to know him and be friends. He's a good boy. I'm sure you'll both get along. I know you've just met, but I can't just let my baby girl--"

"Mom, I'm not a baby anymore."

"Look, honey, I couldn't bear with the thought of you being all alone in California so I called one of my college mates living there. Your Aunt Clarice--you know her, right?"

I sighed, "Yes, Mom. I know her. I've met her a thousand times. I've talked to her too, but what about her?"

"Well, that boy there is her son."

"Her what?!" I almost dropped my phone when Mom said that sentence. I never knew that Aunt Clarice had a son. All I knew was that she had divorce a few months ago and now she's all alone, but I never knew that she had a child at all.

"I asked her if she could let her son live with you since he's also going to a university there. I just wanted to make sure that you would always be safe, dear."

"Well, I wouldn't be safe at all living with him." Mom laughed. She probably thought that it was a joke or I was being sarcastic.

"You'll have fun with Michael. I'm sure he wouldn't do any harm," she reassured. "I trust him just like how I trust Clarice." I disagreed with Mom's idea one hundred percent, but I can't win when it comes to fighting about her decisions. Mom was unbeatable when it comes to matters like this.

I sighed. "Fine. I'll try to live with him."

"That's my girl!" I could hear the smile in her voice. "Be good, ok? I gotta get back to work. Love you! Bye!" Then she hung up. I plopped myself on the couch trying to take in everything that just happened. Just then he walks into the room.

"So... What did she say?" He asked, sitting down beside me and devouring his second apple.

"I can't believe you're living with me," I muttered.

"See I told you," he says, chuckling a bit.

"Could you at least put on a shirt first. You're not living alone, you know." I was pissed. He knows that I'm living here too.

"Why? Don't you like what your seeing?" I couldn't help but laugh at that.

"Oh, shut up, will ya?" He gives me an irritated look while I continue to obnoxiously laugh like a mental patient.

"HAHAHA! H-ha... ha... Ow! Ouch!" My sides were hurting from laughing too hard. Michael rolled his eyes.

"To be honest, I don't want to live with you. I could live on my own," I told him once I've calmed down.

"And I don't want to live with you either, but I have to." He gets up and stares at me with cold eyes. "I'm sorry, but I can't leave. I'm just obeying orders so that means I'm staying. Just deal with it."

"But it's not fun living with a guy like you," I stood up, crossed my arms, and pouted.

"Why? Because I'm a bad boy?"

"Wait, you're a--" My sentence was cut off short. He grabbed my arm and pulled me close. He leaned forward and looked at me in the eyes with a mischievous smile on his face like he was up to something. And I could tell that it wasn't good.

"We could have fun, but in a different way. You know what I'm saying?" Of course I know it! And it's something horrible that I don't even want to say it myself. I gulped and tried to pull myself away from him, but his grip on me was too strong and tight.

"I actually thought that you would be somewhat more prettier and sexier, but I guess I just have to deal with you instead." He caresses my cheek and draws closer to my face. Not knowing what to do, I closed my eyes and braced myself for what he's about to do. After waiting for a while with nothing happening, I slowly opened my eyes.

And he smirked at me.

Blushing furiously, I immediately pulled away from him and ran to my bedroom. I shut the door and locked it. I dived into my bed and hid myself under the covers in embarrassment. He's horrible! I hate him! Why should I be stuck with him? Why me? Why does it have to be like this? I'm not safe living with him. Who knows what might happen? And thinking about it made me shiver. Ugh! Living with that jerkface would just lead me into trouble.
