Waiting
Nishinoya's body rocked from side to side a little as the bus moved. He'd sprinted the entire way to the subway and bought a ticket for the next ride to Tokyo just in time to catch his ride. Now, he was scrolling through this phone as he was transported to his destination. It was to be a long and very boring journey. But for Asahi, it was worth it.
For Asahi, it was always worth it.
As the hours ticked by, they began to blur together. Noya felt himself regretting not grabbing something to eat, or anything to drink. He'd have to buy something from a vending machine at the next station he came across. He didn't want anyone to fret over him once he got there.
Then he realized he didn't have a place to sleep. He couldn't book a hotel because in a stroke of terrible luck he'd left his credit card on the counter of his home and had to pay for his ticket with cash. I'll have to text Suga and see if I can crash at his place.
Hey Suga-san, I'm coming to Tokyo but I don't have a place to stay. Can I spend the night at yours?
After sending the text, he waited for a response.
Waiting.
Waiting was all he seemed to do now.
Waiting for the bus to arrive, waiting for Suga to respond, waiting for Asahi to come back.
All he ever did was wait.
Wait to fall asleep.
Wait for volleyball practice.
Wait for school to end.
Wait for the bell to ring.
Wait to call Asahi again.
Wait for the bus to stop.
God, I'm tired.
It was two A.M. by the time Noya reached Tokyo, and two-thirty by the time he was out of the station and onto the bustling city streets. Well, not bustling. It was almost three A.M., after all.
He hasn't responded, but I know where he lives...
I guess it'll be a surprise, then!
A very, very, very...weird surprise.
Sugawara was awoken by a knock on his apartment door. He rubbed his eyes, then stumbled out of his room. Asahi was sleeping in the room beside him, because they were roommates. Daichi and Kuroo were next door. He swung open the door, and blinked his eyes fully awake.
"Nishinoya?"
The small boy looked at the ground sheepishly. "I know it's really unexpected, but I don't have a hotel, and..."
"Come on in. I bet you only got the news a few hours ago, meaning you've been up forever. Therefore, you haven't eaten or drank anything in at least twelve hours, and you know the rule of threes."
"The rule of whats?"
"You know. Three minutes without oxygen, three hours without shelter, three days without water, and three weeks without food."
"It hasn't been that long, Suga-san."
"Yeah, yeah. Now go lay on the couch."
"You're not my-"
"Now."
"Yes sir!"
Next thing he knew, he was asleep.
He felt a warmth appear beside him. He opened his eyes, and saw Asahi. Puffy-eyes, and his still-long hair tied into a messy ponytail at the nape of his neck.
He's mourning.
That was all he managed to think before he drifted back to sleep.
