Thoughts
Yachi twirled her pencil in her fingers in a bored fashion, waiting for the bell. It wasn't that class wasn't interesting, it's just that she had other things to think about.
Like Kiyoko.
It was nearing Christmastime, and her soulmate was going to visit. They were going to see each other for the first time in months. It was going to be amazing, and they would have an amazing time together.
The bell rang.
Yachi packed her bag and went to the gym, where Satami was waiting for her. She wore her brown hair in its usual ponytail, matching the blonde's. She thought it was cute. They were like sisters. The two made polite small talk as they made their way to practice, and of course, Kageyama was already there, practicing with Hinata. Satami sighed in an I-know-you're-in-love-but-this-is-ridiculous kind of way.
"I don't get it," she mumbled, "they're soulmates. They already know they're destined to be. Why are they taking it so slow?"
Yachi shrugged. "Sometimes people don't want to be chosen by fate. Sometimes they want to, but are hesitant to start dating. Sometimes, they don't want to date at all. Every choice is valid, Satami-chan."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," she mumbled again, "but it's just so stupid! Everyone on this team is so lucky, but me! I'm the only one here without a soulmate!"
"Maybe that just means that there's someone extra special out there for you."
"Maybe. But I can't help but wonder, I mean, what if they're dead?"
"Not everyone finds their soulmate in high school. Though it is kinda odd that soulmates are usually very regional."
"Yeah, must be fate playing us."
"How so?"
"I mean, think about it. It's like the universe is telling us, 'we get to take the wheel. You can just sit and watch.' I mean, what's so special about that? I don't get to make many discoveries, do I? I mean, I did question my sexuality for a hot minute when I saw Kiyoko, but it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things because I have a partner picked out already."
"You could look at it that way, I guess."
Practice ended without incident. Yachi waited outside for Hinata. They usually walked home together, and she had the feeling he had a lot to spill. She was right, by the way. He totally did. He was talking about Kageyama, how he was so beautiful, how he wanted to kiss him after they scored a point, but couldn't. The ravenette wanted to wait until he'd caught feelings first, and was sure they were real. It hurt him every passing day.
Hinata would wait, though.
That put a disturbing thought in Yachi's mind.
"Hinata-kun."
"Just Hinata is fine, and what?"
"What if one day Kiyoko doesn't love me anymore?"
He stopped in his tracks. "What do you mean?"
She stopped next to him. "I mean, what if she wakes up one morning and she hates me and wants to break up?"
"Then you'd break up, but that won't happen, she loves you way too much."
"Yeah, you're right."
"Besides, it's not like she could just hate you for no reason at all, right?"
