Two
Dean was beautiful. Cas kept finding himself thinking about him as he got back to the apartment that afternoon. He started putting away everything he had bought, but he paused when he got to the frozen pizza, his mind going back two hours.
"What happened to your hand?" Dean had asked as they stood in front of the freezer. Cas looked at his hand.
"Oh. I broke a vase and cut myself cleaning it up," Cas said softly.
"That sucks," Dean said. Cas nodded and finally stepped forward and opened the pizza freezer and pulling one out. Dean grabbed one too and smiled at Cas. Cas gave a small smile back and started to move on.
"Hey, do you want to finish shopping together? Shopping sucks, It would be better if I had someone to talk to," Dean said. Cas paused, thinking it over for a second.
"Okay," he said finally.
They talked a little as they shopped. Well, Dean did most of the talking. Cas mostly just listened, like he normally did.
"You're really quiet," Dean had noted at one point.
"I don't have much to say," Cas had told him.
"Tell me something about yourself," Dean suggested.
"Oh. Well, I have a boyfriend named Aaron. He's really sweet," Cas said. Dean smiled.
"I meant something about you. Personally. What you do, what your life is like," Dean said.
"Nobody wants to hear that. My life is boring," Cas said. Dean gave him a weird look.
"You know, you're the first person I've met that didn't want to talk about themselves," he said.
"Well I'm the first person you've met who knows that no one cares," Cas said, turning towards the shelf to examine the bread.
What Cas remembered most was when they ended up in the book section. Cas had been looking at the books and had seen one that he'd read before.
"I've read this," he had said quietly.
"Yeah? Was it any good?" Dean had asked him. Cas' eyes lit up and he had started gushing about the book. He probably made it a full minute before he remembered. No one cared.
"And then he- oh, sorry, I'm rambling," Cas had said, turning red. He put the book back on the shelf.
"Hey, no, it's okay. It was cute, I didn't mind at all," Dean had said.
"That's okay, you're just being polite. I have all my stuff, I should check out now. It was nice meeting you, Dean," Cas had said. He had wheeled his cart away, embarrassed, leaving Dean standing behind him. Cas hadn't seen Dean again, and it wasn't until just now, almost thirty minutes later, that Cas realized.
"He called me cute," he said softly to himself, a smile spreading across his face.
