Ten

After the Ginger fiasco, Aaron promised to take Cas out for a day. Cas was ecstatic. Those were always the best days, when it was just him and Aaron outside spending time together. Cas and Dean had been getting back to normal over the past few days, although Dean still seemed very unhappy about the whole thing. But as Aaron took Cas out for a walk around the city, Cas was able to forget about Dean for a bit.

Cas and Aaron walked down the street that afternoon, holding hands. Cas had never felt so happy in his life.
"You know rainbows are circles, right? So all the kids looking for the pot of gold aren't gonna make it very far," Aaron said as they watched a rainbow hover over the city.

"Come on Aaron, leave some of the magic alive," Cas said, smiling. Aaron smiled back at Cas and Cas felt his heart swell.

"Are you hungry?" Aaron asked.

"I could eat," Cas said. Aaron nodded and they went into a diner. They got a table and Cas took Aaron's hand again.

"Are you having a fun time?" Aaron asked.

"This is amazing, I'm so glad we did this," Cas told him. Aaron smiled.

"I'm glad too. We've been through a lot together, it's nice being able to just sit back and relax," he said. Cas nodded in agreement. They talked a little more, ordered their drinks, and had a great time. At one point Aaron went to the bathroom, leaving Cas alone at the table. Cas sat there for a minute, looking around, before-

"Cas?" It was Dean.

"Oh... Hello Dean," Cas said, standing up. He wasn't sure what to say, he wasn't sure what Dean would say.

"How are you?" Dean asked. Dean's eyes roamed over Cas' body and Cas was confused until he realized. He's scanning me for bruises!

"I'm perfectly fine, Dean. How are you?" Cas asked in return.

"I'm good. Ginger's a handful," Dean said.

"I'm really sorry about that," Cas said. Dean waved dismissively.

"It's fine. I'm just trying to help you out," he said.

"Well who are you?" Aaron asked. Cas jumped. He hadn't noticed Aaron come back from the bathroom

"I'm Dean," Dean introduced himself.

"Well it's nice to meet you, Dean. I'm Aaron, Cas' boyfriend," Aaron said. Dean's face changed and he clenched his fist by his side. For a second Cas thought he was going to attack Aaron, but he didn't.

"So what brought you here, Dean?" Aaron asked.

"I was just passing by, saw Cas through the window, thought I'd say hello," Dean said. Aaron probably didn't notice anything, but Cas saw a complete change in the man before him from the one he had met in the grocery store.

"Oh. How do you and Cas know each other?" Aaron asked.

"We met at a grocery store not long ago," Dean said, glancing at Cas. Cas looked at Aaron.

"That's nice. Would you like to stay and have lunch with us?" Aaron asked.

"No, I should get going. It was nice seeing you, Cas," Dean said, turning and leaving. Cas watched him go, sitting back down in his chair.

"He seemed like a total weirdo. Is he bothering you at all?" Aaron asked, also taking his seat.

"No, he's my friend," Cas said.

"I'm not sure I want you hanging out with him, he was pretty rude," Aaron said. Cas blinked.

"What? I- He-" Aaron raised his eyebrows. "I like talking to him," Cas finished, "he makes me feel better when I can't get a hold of you."

"Okay. If you're sure he isn't bothering you," Aaron said. Cas nodded.

"I'm sure," he said. Aaron nodded, and that was that. They didn't talk about Dean for the rest of the day.
