Seven

Cas sat up in his bed suddenly, chest heaving, tears leaking down his cheeks. He looked over at the clock. It was midnight. Cas grabbed his phone and dialed Aaron's number.

"What?" Aaron barked after a few rings.

"I-It's me. I h-had another n-nightmare," Cas said, hugging his knees with his free arm.

"It's midnight. Go back to sleep and don't call me at unreasonable hours," Aaron said.

"But-" Cas was cut off by the beep saying that Aaron had hung up on him. Cas took his phone away from his ear and laid back down, trying to calm down and go back to sleep, but he still couldn't. He sat back up after a minute and opened his phone again. He went into his contacts and stared at Dean's number, debating whether or not to call. Eventually he pressed it. Dean probably wouldn't pick up anyway, it was so late, he was probably-

"Hello?" Dean's voice sounded like he had just woken up.

"Dean?" Cas asked quietly.

"Cas; what's up?" Dean asked. Cas heard him yawn.

"I woke you up didn't I? I'm sorry, I-"

"No, no, it's okay. Do you need something?" Dean asked.

"I just... I had a nightmare, I wanted someone to talk to," Cas said.

"What about your boyfriend?" Dean asked.

"Aaron... isn't here," Cas admitted. "he went out and he's staying with his friend."

"Well I'm here," Dean said. "What was the nightmare about?" Cas got out of his bed and grabbed a sweater and put it on.

"I... I'd rather not say if you don't mind," he said, pulling a kitchen chair up next to the window and sitting in it.

"Okay. What do you want to talk about, then?" Dean asked. Cas stared out the window, not saying anything for a minute. "Cas?" Dean asked.

"I'm here. I just... don't know what to talk about. Would you tell me something about yourself? Anything. Just talk to me," Cas requested.

"Only if you tell me something about yourself," Dean said.

"Wh... like what?" Cas asked, watching the night sky.

"Anything. As long as it doesn't involve your boyfriend," Dean said.

"Okay... um... I... I like space. The universe, with all its stars... it fascinates me," Cas said.

"Space. I'll remember that," Dean said. Cas smiled slightly.

"You will?" He asked.

"Yeah. The first thing I really knew about you," Dean said.

"We've been talking to each other for days," Cas said.

"And yet you say so little," Dean said. Cas didn't quite know what to say to that, but Dean didn't seem to be waiting for a response. "So what was it you wanted me to talk about?" he asked.

"Do you have a family?" Cas asked.

"Yeah," Dean said.

"Do they love you?"

"I like to think so."

"Tell me about them."

And Dean did. He told Cas all about his father, John, his brother, Sam, and everything he remembered about his mother, Mary, who had died in a fire when Dean was four. Cas loved listening to Dean's voice, but it wasn't until he woke up the next morning, curled up in that chair by the window with his phone on the floor that he really realized how beautiful Dean's voice was.
