Naga gently fingered the solid gold necklace. It was shaped to be a six pointed star inside a ring. Naga had found it the previous day enclosed in a scarlet envelope in her locker. She stared at it curiously. You must have cost a fortune, Naga thought. So why would someone give you to me? Me the school's biggest nerd of all people. Naga smiled, No matter, whoever you are, thank you, because for once I feel like someone special.

Naga woke from her trance when she heard a knock on her door. Naga tucked the necklace safely into her light gray shirt and hurriedly answer the door.

"Breakfast is ready," Miss Heather said with her usual forced smile. If you hate children so much then why work?

"Thank you," Naga said returning Miss Heathers fake smile, before brushing past her. Naga skipped down the stairs determined not to let anyone dampen her cheery mood. However despite Naga's best efforts her day would soon turn sour.

By the time Naga made it downstairs everyone almost was already seated. Most of the kids were under twelve. Correction they were all under twelve besides Naga herself and Tyler.

"Hello sleeping beauty," Tyler teased, "enjoyed your sleep?"

"Shut up," Naga said trying to look annoyed, but she couldn't stop thinking about the necklace hidden underneath her shirt and grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Naga didn't have many secrets that Tyler didn't know of, so she felt a bit weird talking to him. However, Naga didn't want to tell him. Naga liked having the pretty necklace as a secret between herself and whoever gave it to her. Naga felt that telling someone would make the gift less sacred, even if that someone was her best friend.

Tyler eventually became her best friend after being stuck together for so long in Miss Heather's care. At first Naga despised Tyler with her entire existence. Honestly he was a jerk to her, correction he still was but Tyler's jerkyness had grown on Astra. When all the other kids started getting adopted in a repeated cycle constantly leaving the two of them alone Naga started finding comfort in that annoying jock, Tyler. For a brief moment Naga wondered if Tyler had given her the necklace, but the gift didn't really spell out friendship rather some other deeper emotion and Tyler was only a friend, right?

After eating breakfast Naga found herself staring intensely at her best friend. Naga would be lying if she said she didn't find Tyler's emerald green eyes and jet black hair attractive. His personality though wasn't really boyfriend material though, then again he wasn't friend material either and they still became each other's best friends. The point being Tyler was too obsessed with his public appearance to even hang out with Naga during school hours. Why am I even considering this right now? Naga thought finally looking away from him and out the window, just in time to see a yellow bus drive in front of the house.

"Well come on princess," Tyler said heading to the doorway.

**************************************

Naga slipped into school trying her best to blend in with the crowd. Which was generally pretty easy. Naga looked extremely average with milky white skin, flat brown hair, and plain brown eyes. The only things different about her was her high level of intellect and her unusual name. Not that either of those things ever received a positive reaction from her fellow students.

However note how the text says generally pretty easy, because there is always an exception to every rule. In this case the exception was Bree also known as Miss Popularity, Queen Bree, and yes the pun is intended. For some reason she despised and was Naga determined to make Naga's life miserable. Unfortunately that morning Bree caught sight of Naga. As Bree approached Naga, Naga looked around for Tyler if Naga was lucky she could go to him for cover. There was no such luck. Figures, Naga thought. "No offense and all," Tyler would say in his blunt demeanor, "but you're kinda a social outcast, so don't take it personally if I don't hang out with you during school hours." Why did Naga love that jerk... love as in a friendly way of course. The point is, Naga was left to face the terror approaching her alone and she lost.

Naga looked at her tear stained reflection in the mirror.

"Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you." Naga recited to her reflection, "Yeah right." Naga took off her necklace and closed it in her palm. Who are you? Naga asked, please help me even my best friend is to embarrassed to be with me. Help me....

That's when the pendant grew burning hot and the lights went dark.
