Scarlett's P.O.V.
I woke up early next to Edward. Huh, I remember last night, and the feeling that washed over me during my nightmare.
"Ed? Scarlett? Are you two up?" Pinako yelled up to us from somewhere on the first floor. "Hohenheim is about to leave." I scrambled from bed as quick as I could. Hearing Ed mumble complaints as I step out of the bed makes me laugh, and open the door anyways.
"I'm up Pinako!" I race down the stairs and just as I turn into the kitchen, I'm met with the stoic man that Ed refuses to call a father. His gaze doesn't leave my own, and instead of leaving, he starts walking back into the house. Closer to me.
"Um, goodbye Hohenheim. It was a pleasure to meet you." Even if Edward gives zero fucks about you.
"The pleasure was all mine, miss Scarlett." He replied curtly. Holding his hand out, I took it in respect. "Do try to keep my son out of trouble."
"More like the other way around, really. He's 90% of my impulse control." I flashed a pretty smile, which made him laugh for some reason.
"Well then, I hope both of you will look out for each other." He walked closer to me, and patted my head in an affectionate manner- which I'd like to point out, was a little intimidating because his hand was really big.
Pinako and I saw the man off. To where, heck if I know, reader.
"So he's gone?" Ed asked as I went back inside.
"AHHHH!" I screamed and picked up the nearest object and threw it full force at the guy. HE SCARED ME ALL RIGHT?😱
"Hey-WHAT THE FUCK WHY'D YOU THROW A FORK AT ME?!?" He picked up the metal fork and looked at it with disgust and fear. Ok, I feel a little silly for picking that as a weapon. Think up an excuse..come on, come on....
"You never know when you'll be attacked. Use your surroundings." I shrugged. "But seriously! Don't just pop outta nowhere like that!" I walked over and started lightly hitting Ed anywhere his arms weren't protecting.
"Alright-STOP OK I'M S O R R Y." He held my waist an arms length away and I couldn't hit him as well.
"Now, that's enough fighting you two lovebirds. Breakfast is ready." Pinako said with a knowing smile, which made me blush. I tried to wiggle out of Ed's hold, but he didn't let go.
"Yeah yeah old hag..." He grumbled as he finally let go to sit down. I was left standing with my face a red hot mess and slow at the uptake.
We sat down at the table and began to eat slowly. There was a thoughtful silence between the three of us as we chewed our eggs and toast. I couldn't think straight- the previous actions and Ed's leg brushing against mine made it hard.
"So, Ed," Pinako got our attention, "what are you going to do?"
There was a long pause. This silence was an uncomfortable one.
"Scarlett, I need you to stay here." Ed didn't look at me, which irritated me more than him asking for me to stay behind.
"What? Why?" I said, standing up in my seat to add height to my argument. I started walking out after Ed.
"Just-" he spun around and grabbed my shoulders to stop me in my tracks. "Please. I don't want you to see what I do."
There was a moment where I was skeptical, but in the end, I trust him.
"Fine. But I'm stealing your bed." I grumble, as I turn and enter the house once again. "And for Christ's sake, don't do anything stupid!" I called after him.
Edward's P.O.V.
I don't believe it.
It's been hours since I went back to my old house with Pinako, and a shovel to uncover the ungodly being my brother and I created. It began to rain, but that didn't stop me. Finally, as the dark clouds had set in, I came upon the thing.
None of us have black hair.
What the hell is this?
What
The
Hell??
All I wanted to do was cry, but I couldn't get any tears out.
I have to know.
Were we the only ones, or did this happen to other people.
Only one person comes to mind:
Teacher.
Scarlett's P.O.V.
It was past dark already, and the oncoming storm didn't show any signs of stopping.
Was I worried about Edward? I guess. Will I ever let anyone know? Fuck no!
Leaving my worries, I went to Ed's room.
I'm not going to lie, I was afraid to sleep. I didn't want to see the horrible visions that haunted me whenever I slept. Strange enough, last night was probably the only time I've slept in a week.
I laid on the bed, and placed my hands behind my head as I stared up at the ceiling.
What was going to happen next? Everything is so different than the other world. I have no idea what to do, or how I can stop the oncoming shitstorm.
I just hope Ed is more prepared than I am.
Edward's P.O.V.
Teacher didn't like the idea that the child she transmuted wasn't hers. She yelled at me through the phone, but something about her tone only helped solidify the fact that both people we tried to bring back weren't the monsters that we transmuted.
After a good hour of crying, and Pinako comforting me at the dining table, I trudged back upstairs to my room. In a haze I opened the door and stepped into the darkness.
"Stop....please..." I looked towards the bed to see Scarlett writhing in pain on the bed.
For an instant, everything fell away, and I raced to the bed. She was still asleep; eyes tightly shut as she let her cries of pain echo through the room.
"Scarlett! Please wake up!" I called out to her as I held down her flying fists. I didn't want her to hurt me or herself!
"It hurts! It hurts! Stop it! ED!" I looked at her face, which was twisted in pain, but now it was crying. I always thought she looked ugly when she cried, and I was right.
It was only because she looks beautiful when she is smiling.
"Ed...please help me..." She whimpered, and I let go of her fists to hold her head in my hands.
"You're ok." I said, "I'm right here."
After a few minutes of her sniffling as I wiped her tears, she opened her eyes. Her eyes are so dark, like pure coal and ash from a fire. If I had to guess, the fire would be in her heart. The heart that always ignited hope and happiness in others, and I'm no exception.
She wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me closer. I felt her tremble underneath me.
"Welcome back, you damn idiot." She let out a shaky laugh.
The next day, Scarlett, Pinako, and I visited the graveyard once more. We walked around together and told stories about my childhood.
Scarlett thought they were funny, but it was embarrassing!! STAHP TELLING HER HOW NAIVE I WAS PINAKO!
Scarlett laughed long and hard at each story, squeezing the hand that held mine. She hasn't let it go since we woke up this morning. I guess whatever happened last night really scared her, so I promised her that I would always wake her up whenever she got a nightmare.
Finally, we ended up at my mother's grave.
"I forgot to tell Hohenheim something before he left yesterday." Pinako groaned, but we watched as she gave me a grin. "So you'll have to give it to him when you next see him."
"I WONT SEE HIM AGAIN!" I gritted my teeth in anger.
"It was a message from your mother. Tell him, 'sorry I couldn't keep your promise. I will have to leave before you.'"
"Fine. But don't blame me if I forget." I said.
"Ed, the whole point of telling you was so you'd remember the message." Scarlett mumbled. "Idiot."
"WHO ARE YOU CALLING AN IDIOT?!?"
"YOU, YA ASSHAT!"
Ah, everything seemed back to normal as I glared at the girl still holding my hand.
Now we head back, and see what Al and Winry have been up to in Central.
