Edward's P.O.V
"The colonel ordered us to take you out here so you can see that these two are still alive." Second Lieutenant Breda scratched his stubble as we all sat in the shade of the ruins as the afternoon sun was at its highest.
"Plus he needed you outta Central for his plan to go smoothly. Have you noticed that you're a thorn in his side?" Scarlett teased- BUT IM NOT A THORN IN ANYONE'S SIDE FIGHT ME. She poked my side, and I tried my best to not blush, but I realized the only way to do that is look away from her.
"I-I just can't believe you didn't tell me about all this beforehand...." I can't believe Scarlett kept a secret for this long from Al and I. Scarlett put a bit more distance between our bodies, and the extra heat I felt to my left vanished, to my dismay. No! I'm not letting her just walk away!
"There was the chance information could be leaked, and for Hughes's sake, I would keep a million more secrets from you to make that happen." That kinda hurt. Does she not trust me? I have her a look that said all my thoughts.
"Oh." I sighed.
"It's- it's hard to explain, and I know either way, I'm going to be judged on my action so," Scarlett began standing up, and walking off. "Going for a walk. Be right back." I watched her leave, and I instantly regretted my actions but my pride kept me from stating my feelings out loud. There was a cool draft next to me where there was the warmth of her, and I realized how different it felt without her by my side.
I again, sighed, but only once she was out of sight. She's been- I don't even know! She's changed, and I don't know what to do! I went to continue my talk with Breda and Hughes, but they were staring at me like I was the bad guy!
"WHAT?" I asked angrily, but Hughes just shook his head and 'tsk'ed. I DONT UNDERSTAND!
"When's the wedding?" Hughes grinned while scratching his stubble. The word 'wedding' triggered blush, and as I tried to hide my face, the man laughed!
"It's alright! You're young, and in love."
"W-Why does everyone think I LOVE Scarlett??" I sighed in annoyance. (A/N: well, you're not DENYING IT....)
"It's the look you give her." Second Lieutenant Ross smiled softly at me.
"That's the same look I give my wife." Hughes mimicked Ross's expression, and once I've had enough of their stares, I walked off in the direction Scarlett went.
I kept my head down as my face dulled back to its correct colour. Where the hell was she? She couldn't have gotten far! Horrible thoughts went through my head. The blood, the death, everything that happened before scared me. My heart tightened in fear as my pace quickened through the sand- filled ruins for her.
And all at once, my fears were put to rest.
I looked to my right; there was a small bit of shade from the sun where the red head sat, sleeping peacefully.
"Idiot." I chastised her softly, sitting down next to her. "I was..." biting my lip, I debated wether or not to finish the sentence. But seeing as she was asleep and no one else was around, I guess my confession will go unheard. She barely stirred when I settled next to her, and I sat as the hot breeze blew across my face.
"I-I was scared....don't go sleeping anywhere I can't see you..."
It felt good to get it off my chest. And as I began to fall asleep, the hot wind blowing my bangs into my face, I intertwined my fingers with Scarlett's.
"Don't go anywhere I can't see you...."
And once the sentence left my tongue, I drifted off with the comforting weight of her head on my shoulder. The sun shined on my eyelids, and the sand, in the shade was not too hot, nor too cool.
I have to admit, I'm glad Scarlett's been here for me.
Riza Hawkeye's P.O.V.
I loaded another bullet into my gun and began training the scope out of a high lookout inside a church across from the enemy.
Not long ago, Mustang got a call from Jean explaining the situation:
The place where we were keeping Barry the Chopper had been compromised by an enemy.
But as always, a new villain arose. This one was fat, and surprisingly agile.
With another bullet, I moved back from my spot as the great big oaf came flying through the window to create a large hole.
I stood up and throwing my rifle to the ground, I pulled out my pistol and began shooting, but nothing stopped him! Fear bubbled up inside me- suddenly a wall of fire separated us before he came too close to me.
"Sir!" I said as relief replaced my fear as I saw Mustang fending off the enemy with fire. The Homunculus flew through the open hole in the wall and fell hard to the ground below us.
I could finally breathe easy knowing that the enemy was incapacitated.
"Sir! The target is on the move!" Kain leaned out the window and pointed to Barry the Chopper, who was on the run chasing something else. He was screaming, 'MY BODY!'
"Black Hayate! Fuery! Scout a perimeter, and stay together!" Colonel ordered, and both my partner Hayate and Kaine Fuery stood to attention with a 'yes sir!' Now all that was left was to follow
"Hawkeye, you alright?" He raced along side me to the car. Somewhere along the way though, I felt him grab my hand and hold on tight.
"Yes." I answered, a small smile coming to my face. "but yoU'RE AN IDIOT TO COME OUT HERE AND COMPROMISING YOURSELF!" I snatched my hand from his grasp and pounded him on the head with my fist.
"OW! OKAY! OKAY! Just- follow them!" He stammered, and we hopped into the car with Alphonse hot on our heels.
"Where do you think he's going?" He asked quietly from the back seat, and Roy shrugged.
"Perhaps it has something to with those homunculus Ed ran into?"
Wait- "I remember that fat one, on his tongue he had a auraborealis mark." I recall, and I heard the clank of Al's metal as he sat up a little.
"That's a homunculus!" He said.
I can't believe it- I came face-to-face with a homunculus and didn't even know it. The hairs at the back of my neck stood up from the chill running down my spine.
"Scarlett, brother, and I met one named Greed awhile back. He told us there's no way of killing them."
"What?!?" Mustang swerved the car and almost ran over Barry the Chopper, who had a few choice words to say.
"Yeah- he blew half his head clean off and walked it off as if it were nothing." Wow, something like that would've definitely strike fear in me, and this poor boy witnessed it.
"So we've identified our enemy, at least..." Colonel Mustang murmured as we drove onward.
All Colonel, Jean Havoc, Alphonse Elric, Barry the Chopper and I peeked over the corner of a red brick wall to catch a better look of the place we would have to infiltrate.
"I saw my stupid body go in there." Barry pointed, and I held my breath in shock.
"Research laboratory 3. Plenty of space and funding. This may be where our enemy's base is." Roy stated.
A thousand thoughts were racing through my head, but I focused on one in particular:
Watch his back.
"It's gonna be too hard." Jean let out a frustrated sigh. "There are too many guards, and what excuse are we gonna give for searching a laboratory?"
"Helloooo..??¿¿ what am I, a soul attached to a crappy suit of armor?" He jumped from our hiding place and ran, like the maniac he is, into the building.
"What is he doing??" Jean said, but Colonel Mustang just smirked and readjusted his gloves.
"Giving us an excuse." He said.
And just like that, we walked right through the front doors.
