Chapter 11: Rewritten

Scarlett's P.O.V.

"What the HELL EDWARD?!?!!!" I heard Winry yell from outside the house where I sat with Alphonse. I couldn't help but chuckle at his screams and pleads of help as she did God knows what with her wrench.

"Oh brother, you should've known this would happen if you showed your arm." He whispered to himself as we sat looking at the rolling hills. We were silent a bit after that; leaning our backs against the yellow painted side.

Why couldn't my life be like this?

"Didn't you say you lived around Risembol, Scarlett?" Al asked. Damn, I did say that, didn't I? Wait- this is another world. What if my mother is alive? My eyes widened in understanding.

"Y-Yeah. But I doubt that they'll remember me." I murmured the second sentence to hopefully simple gibberish. I stood up and brushed my butt of any dirt. "So, I'm going into town. If anyone asks, tell them I'm getting food." Al waved goodbye as I walked down the lone dirt path.

The sun was shining today; the perfect type of day you'd find in a book or a story that someone would tell. I breathed in the fresh air and smiled to myself as the sound of birds resounded through air. After a half an hour later, I entered the small town where the folks went about their lives.

An elderly couple passed by; giving me a smile. "You're the young lady the Elric Brother's brought with them?" The lady asked and I nodded.

"Scarlett Reems. It's a pleasure to meet you." I replied. Her face looked confused for a moment; wrinkles on her face creasing more with every second.

"Reems you say? You wouldn't happen to be related to Sophia and Richard Reems..would you?" The woman queried, yet I felt my chest constrict.

Sophia.

That was my mother's name?

"No, I'm afraid not." She shook her head to clear the thought. The lady waved goodbye as she took her loving husband by the arm. The gesture brought a small smile to my face. I turned and started back town the path as I looked at the little shops and stores.

A few other people came to ask questions about my job; intrigued by Alchemy. It always made me feel good to see people stare in awe at a force they couldn't understand.

"Mommy over here!!" I felt something bumped into me from behind, then a grunt as the child fell to the ground. Turning around, I saw familiar red hair like a wildfire in summer. My heart sped up at the color. The little girl stared up at me with dark brown eyes and round cheeks.

"Scarlett! What has Mommy said about running off?" I snapped my head up at the sound of my na-

THUMP.

THUMP.

"Daddy!" The girl exclaimed. My heart sped up at the man in front of me, picking up the little girl in his hands as she giggled in delight. This man,

Dad..?

"I apologize for her, little Scar. here doesn't look before she walks." He pushed up his glasses like he always used to, and gave a corny smile I rarely saw when he was not drunk. Yet this man was not him. This man was sober. Loved his kid. And had a wife. Sophia, my mother, came skipping up with a basket of flowers hooked in the crook of her elbow. She had strawberry blonde hair and the same brown eyes as me.

"You're the Alchemist people are talking all about!" Her face was one of curiosity; one that looked exactly like mine I would have. This was killing me inside. I smiled at her as well, and stuck out my hand.

"Ana Dennis." I faked a smile as Sophia grasped my hand in hers. "Pleasure to meet you. My State Alchemist name is Black Shadow."

"Wow..mommy she looks like daddy!" The mini me smiled as his eyes widened and a smirk came to his face.

"Yeah, by Jove, one would say we could be related!" He exclaimed.

"Might I ask where your parents live? Such a young woman like yourself in the State Military? Do your parents approve?" Sophia swung my hand with hers playfully. But, you are my parents.

I smiled, but sadly. "I'm sorry, my parents are dead." That's right, once I entered this world, they died. These people are someone I happened to meet in a place I once knew with a child that looks exactly like me and will grow up with both parents and never experience what I have.

I've been rewritten.

No one would ever know what I've been through, nor would they comfort me.

I said farewell to the Reems family- so weird to say - and headed to the only place I would ever get peace of mind.

The Graveyard.

I entered through the small simple gate and headed to the back where my own mother would be buried. I passed the grey stones signifying the dead, but there's was one that didn't have a name upon the stone.

"Mom.." I whispered as the willow tree shaded me from the harsh afternoon sunlight. "You may not be her, but once, this is where she laid too." I felt like I was going crazy; talking to a dead person. "So let me cry here; in from of your grave." I felt tears come to my eyes as my knees buckled and fell to them as I cried the tears I've been holding back.

Edward's P.O.V.

"Hey, Al, where did Scarlett go?" I asked. Winry said that it would be three days before I could get my automail back. And when I come out, the red head was gone.

"She went into town. Said she was getting food for tonight's meal." He replied airily; like he was thinking of something else. I sighed, guess I'll have to go and help her with the bags. I walked down the porch steps, and down the dirt road. "Where are you going brother?"

"To find her." I answered briefly before I was too far away to hear his words.

"Hello Philip." Smiled at the general store manager as I entered through the door. His face brightened at the sight of me.

"Edward Elric! Haven't seen you in, what, five years?"

"Yeah." I laughed, "listen, have you seen another Alchemist around. About my height, red hair, real prick?" I asked, and he laughed at my description. God I've missed this town. "Yeah, she passed by here and stayed in the square for about an hour then left to go to the cemetery."
I thought she said she went to get food?

"Thanks." I murmured as I made my way out of the store, but before leaving, Philip grabbed my arm and winked.

"She's a keeper, Ed," He noted. WAIT. HOLD ON, DID HE THINK WE WERE-I WAS-

"PFFT I HAVE TO KEEPER WETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT." I yelled aloud before making a quick getaway. The sun was beginning to set when I strolled up to the gate of the cemetery, I couldn't see her very well.

"Scarlett?" I called out, but only sniffles answered. Walking cautiously between the rows of graves; the names neatly engraved, she sat underneath a willow tree. It was even hard for me to see her then, but she was curled up with her knees to her chest and arms wrapped around them. Red hair falling like a blood waterfall as her head was in her arms. "It's almost dinner." I stated, hoping she's just snap out of her funk and grin again.

I just wanted to see that smile to know she was alright.

Yet she didn't. She stayed in her position and I heard soft crying.

"Scarlett..why are you crying?" I asked softly, but the only answer she gave me only more confusion.

"It's all gone. My life is gone and I'm alone! I'm rewritten and no one will ever know what I've went through!"
