Chapter 1: Back To Square One
Scatletts P.O.V.
"IM ALIVE!!" I yelled to the sky. Just-Just the wind on my face was enough to make me cry. I'm alive. I was supposed to be dead, and here I am. I twirled on my tip toes toward the sky as I laughed. The footsteps still crescendoed in my direction, and I had to put my merriment to an end when a bulky man now stood about five meters away. I shifted my eyes in his direction, but was weary.
"Who are you??! Another state alchemist?!?" He yelled at me, and I laughed. He had his hair greasing black and pulled back into a ponytail. He wore a state military uniform, but I could easily see holes from heat and tattered ends. He must've run into Roy.
"I'm Scarlett." I smiled deviously. I let my bangs fall over my eyes as I pulled my black coat closet to my body. "And who might you be?"
"I'm the Freezing Alchemist!" He declared, "Issac MacDougal!!" Pffft. He got so dramatic only to say that? HAHAHA!! I laughed again, lazily stepping to the side as he tried to freeze me with his alchemy. He lunged at me again with fury. I happily skipped backwards as his hand was a mere inch away from my face.
"Are you having trouble?" I asked with a smile, cutting off whatever he was about to say as the alley's wall came out and near his head. He gasped, and I laughed in response- damn, I feel like I had way too much adrenaline. He came at me again, and I ducked, bringing my knee to his chin and causing a horrible crack. He retreated; giving me time to run! I'd love to beat his ass, but right now, I need to find familiars!
"Central Headquarters." I murmured to myself as I ran on the sidewalk. There was a cluster of cars ahead of me, and I saw Roy Mustang was slumped forward in a pouting position behind Riza Hawkeye.
"Roy!" I called out him, and I looked upon the face that taught me, scolded me, hugged me,-
"Excuse me, but I believe you must be mistaken you girl." My eyebrows furrowed, and instead of a smile, a frown found itself onto my face. He- he doesn't recognize me? His face was serious as he stared down at me.
"Haha! Nice one, Roy, but seriously, it's me!!" I let out a dry laugh, hoping his mind would recollect me. He had to!
"Sorry, sir, but we need to leave." I heard Riza murmur over his shoulder, and he shifted his eyes to me strangely.
"I need you to go home. A dangerous criminal is roaming the streets, and I don't want a young girl to get hurt." With that, he turned his back to me. And my heart broke as it hit the ground with a dull thud. My eyes widened, and I felt my mind go blank as fear began to roll over me like a wave. He-HE CANT FORGET!!! I stood, almost in a paralytic state as the black state military cars rolled away, and from the corner of my eye, a coat of red turned a corner and vanished.
"H-How?" I whispered to myself, tears swelling in my eyes. "Another life, but I was simply a ghost in the shadows." The sadness was not the only thing that filled my brain, but fear, anger; they took over my being as I slammed my left fist into a brick wall; dust and a chunk of debris was sent rocketing the other way than my fist.
"DAMN IT!!" I screamed through tears. Edward loved me.
That means not anymore.
Alphonse is still armor.
Not a young boy who could feel the wind on his face.
Mustang who treated me as a stranger.
Not as a loving sister.
And now I am alone; sitting in a Central I never knew.
I needed some air.
I walked away from the street, and toward the river where I swung me feet over the edge of the bridge. My reflection. My red hair. I am simply a memory of a dead Edward and a world that was now dead to me. Perhaps it would've been best for me to die; peacefully where I could always treasure those words.
"I love you!"
I sighed again, rubbing my temples with my fingertips. Back to square one. Back to the beginning before. Things didn't make sense; the fact that this world was so similar baffled me that much, but what was different- other than me not joining the State Military. There was a rumbling from under my ass, and I snapped out of my depression.
"The fu-?!?!" I fell back into the bridge as an ice wall formed in a matter of seconds; merging with others. There was a blast of cold air from the alley next to me, and I turned to see a transmutation circle for ice hidden underneath cardboard. "Oh shit." Everything was coming together. One giant transmutation circle to attack-
Do you know what that means readers? God, I've gotta stop that habit.
"I have to stop him before the ice gets to Headquarters!!" I yelled. Clapping my hands, alchemic power surged trough my fingertips, and I touched the ground. It shattered, and broke the circle.
"You fools! You committed the ultimate taboo!" I looked up to see an ice wall headed straight for Central HQ; with Issac, Edward, and Alphonse along with it. Instinctively, my legs began to run after the three, gaining speed.
Clapping my hands and an earth pillar was my way of getting onto the ice wall, and from there, I took long and slippery strides unnoticed.
"Yo! Issac The Asshole!" I yelled, catching all three boys off guard. I slid between Al's legs and pushed myself upright once again with my hands.
Now I stood between Issac MacDougal and Edward Elric.
"Who the hell do you think you are?!?" He yelled at me; readable that he was pissed. Same old Ed. No matter what universe. The thought brought a smile to my face.
"Alright; turn yourself in, Issac, and maybe I won't have to kill you." I yawned lazily. I've fought bigger. He tried to attack from my left, this time, but I took his outstretched arm. Kicking him where the sun ain't ever gonna shine, I threw him to the ground as he gasped in pain. Ed behind me started yelling things at me, but I didn't listen to any of them.
"Again- give it up!!" I yelled at Issac, but he used the ice beneath our feet and threw it at my left shoulder. It hit my metal shoulder, and created a small dent.
"What-?" He murmured as I stood back up with a smirk. "No, it can't be- you committed the taboo as well?!?"
"I didn't do it by my own will." I replied, "it was to save a precious friend."
I kicked him off the ice wall as it began to crack and break. Most likely from Roy's flames. He fell to the cobblestone streets, and I jumped down after him with Edward and Alphonse right at my heels. Huh, they've been pretty quiet lately. Issac scrambled back; fear on his face.
"And where would that friend be right now!?! He left you for dead, didn't he??" He called back with a stutter. I froze in my stride, and my eyes widened as I heard Edward's words in my head.
Equivalent Exchange. You protect me, I protect you.
I looked down at the ground quickly with a pained grin on my face. Now I'm back to square one with Ed. He doesn't know me. Yet;
I still can't stop loving him.
"He's always with me. In fact; HE saved ME." I laughed. And I heard Ed take a few steps backwards away from me as I raised my head. My eyes must've looked dead, because that's the shock I got off of everyone. "And now I'm alone." I concluded. I miss my Ed. The Ed that saved my life. The Truth only gave me a second chance because he would've sacrificed his own life to save me so many times, yet I saved his ass a lot more.
"But that's OK. I'll be a story in his head, because, well," I walked closer as he sat on the cobblestone in a daze, "we're all part of a larger story in the end."
