Chapter 24.

AMINU

The weekend went by not in a blur, though. I could sense a great deal of improvement in the relationship between Bukola and I when I woke up the next morning.

We usually go to the office separately with her leaving before me. To my surprise, Bukky stood in the kitchen, completely unaware of my presence. She is cooking breakfast and I swear, between merely watching her while I enjoy the sight and walking up to kiss her senseless, I don't know what option to pick.

There was a certain kind of light that illuminated off of her. Something definitely changed.

Picking my first option, I just lean by the door, arms and legs crossed as I watch her. What's even more alluring is the fact that she's already dressed for work. There's an apron draped across her figure. From the back, all I can see is her seemingly innocent steps while she walks from side to side.

I am soon caught in the act of staring when she turns around and gives me raised brows.

"Good morning." She bats her lashes at me, playfully. Gone is the woman who looked so fragile last night.

"Good morning, wifey." She looks at me through hooded eyes and surprises me with a wink.

"Sit. Let me dish this food."

"Never been so glad to eat breakfast."

"Shush, before I change my mind." She warns.

"Sorry, ma." I smirk and slip onto the sit. She just rolls her eyes.

We eat dinner in silence, me occassionally stealing glances at her. We are still eating when a surprised Madam Christie walks in.

"Good morning, Sir." She greets. I nod my head dismissively.

"Good morning, ma'am." She exchanges hugs with my wife. They seem pretty cool with themselves.

"You are rude, Aminu." She says, when we are back to being the only persons here.

"What have I done again?"

"The least you could do is acknowledge her. What's that rude nodding of head you gave as a response?"

"How is that rude?"

"She cooks your food, Aminu. I would have slipped slow poison in your food if I were the one you rudely dismiss on a regular basis." The water I was chugging in chokes me halfway. Bukky can be scary sometimes.

"Wifey." I groan and she gets up to slap me on the head.

"Think! Go and respond to her greeting. And better be nice, it won't do any harm to you. I am waiting." She says while finishing up the bits of egg on her plate.

"I won't." She won't coerce me to do that.

"Alright. No problem, Rich man. Master Aminu." She doesn't even wait for me to respond before she storms out of the place with her keys in hand.

Sammy's face beams with mischief when I see him in my office by the time I arrive at work. When he is like this, it indicates how much he has up his sleeves that is full of trouble.

"Someone finally decided to resume work today." He wiggles his brows suggestively.

"Get your legs off my table and your ass off my seat."

"You're no fun, old man."

"And you should be more serious with your life, boy."

"Boy? You're just jealous of my youth." He shrugs. This one does not know he is older by the passing of each year. He is super playful, I wonder how Mel, his girlfriend, copes.

"Nah, can never be jealous. So now, get your feet and ass off."

"Sorry." Lifting his hands in mock surrender, he smirks before finally taking his legs off. His shoes leave some dust specks on the table. He stands up after. Walking pass me, he grins widely, no doubt to spite me. Instead, I shake my head, wondering how he constantly manages to keep himself happy. Sammy is not a fan of holding back. He lives the Yolo lifestyle; something I highly dread doing.

Carefully picking out a sheet from the pack of wipes, I clean the top of my desk. I pick another one to clean the seat and I hear him scoff.

"What do you have for me, bro?" He smirks when I ask.

"Many things, bro. Many things."

BUKOLA

Lolu is one of the most persistent men I ever met. Honestly, if he wasn't so handsome, he'd be receiving the cold shoulders from me. Right now, he is waiting for my response.

"No." I say to him, eyes still on the desktop in front of me.

"Bukola." He calls out in his deep voice. I am unfazed.

"It's a harmless dinner date." He points out.

"Lolu, look, what part of No do you not understand?" I ask him with a chuckle. I finally look up to see a pained expression cross his eyes, but he still manages to give me a small smile.

"The part where you just give me one chance?"

"And it's still a No from me. I have someone in my life and we are very serious. I really don't fancy cheating."

"Wow. You didn't have to lie, Bukky."

"I'm serious." Our small conversation is interrupted by someone.

"Miss. Solade, Mr. Adeniran said to be in his office now." I roll my eyes once she leaves and Lolu just laughs.

"Well, good luck with that one." What is that pervert looking for with me? I straighten up my clothes before heading to his office.

His assistant ushers me in and I am surprised to see Aminu also in the office.

"Good afternoon, Sir. Good afternoon, Mr. Adeniran." I say in greeting.

"Good afternoon, Miss. Solade." Mr. Adeniran is all friendly towards me, probably because the boss is also in here with us.

"That is Mrs. Sambo to you, Jude." Aminu refers to him by his first name. His eyes widen when Aminu stands up to give me a peck on the forehead before pulling a seat for me. This man has some scoin scoin sometimes.

"So, my sources tell me you have been giving my wife troubles and even hitting on her. Humor me, but are you not a married man with kids?" Aminu asks. The foolish man cowers in the presence of his boss.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I never knew she was married or even your wife." He trembles.

"So, if she was neither of them, it was still okay to harass her?" I wonder where he got this piece of information from. I am grateful for it, though. Just that this was not the manner in which I saw this happening. Now the bas.tard man will think I got this job because I am oga's wife. Well, on the bright side, he won't disturb me again.

"Apologize to her while I'm still being nice and you have a job."

"I am sorry, ma." The man gives me a stink eye when Aminu is not looking. I merely smirk. You cannot do anything, stupid.

"And, before I forget, any word slips about our marriage without me dissipating the information, your job is out. Also, if you try to be trouble to her, you know I don't need to finish that statement." This man!

"Let's go." He tugs on my arms and I follow him. The moment we step out of the office, I halt in my steps and he turns to look at me.

"I'm sorry. I just could not allow him continue his assault on you." He states.

"Then you had to announce us being married?" I say in a hushed tone. Thankfully, Mr. Adeniran's assistant is not here. She probably was excused for lunch break.

"It's the only reason I initially apologized, because I know you don't want that announcement now. However, I don't apologize for what I did to him. He is an asshole for trying to harass a woman using his position."

"Yeah, I agree with you on that." I state, nodding.

"So, I ordered Lunch but the food arrived and it is so much." He says, scratching the back of his head.

"Is that your way of inviting me over to your office?" I ask him with raised brows.

"Well, if that's what you coined from that, we best get started, then." He grins before pulling me to his side. We get into his own elevator; he has his own private elevator for entry into any floor. I remember using it the first day I came here.

•••••

"Where are you going?" Aminu asks while staring at me intently.

"The strip club." I answer him.

"Why?"

"I miss my girls." I shrug.

"I'm tired of you, Bukola." I wince at the name and just roll my eyes.

"It's not like I'm going to dance." I state, remaining intransigent.

"I know. I'm going with you." He leaves me stunned after leaving a peck on my forehead.

When he returns, he picks his key from where he usually keeps it and helps carry the bag from my hand.

"What's in here?" He asks me.

"Money. I want to give them." I shrug.

"Alright. Let's go." Once we are outside, he opens the car for me to get in, drops the bag in the back seat before rounding up to his own seat.

He diverts from the usual path while we are on our way, to stop at an ATM outlet.

"Wait for me, please." He smiles before taking the money bag with him. He returns with it completely full and very heavy. Tears sting my eyes as guilt eats deep into me. He is kind; the man I am married to.

"Now you have more to give your girls." He pecks my forehead and continues driving, like he did not just do something huge.

"Thank you." I croak out.

"You're welcome, wifey." He takes my left hand in his right hand and places a small kiss on my knuckles. He continues driving with one hand while holding mine in his till we arrive at the club.
