[ Arc 4 - 2 ] Unpleasant encounter - Appointment
The world is literally the world of flat earthers. Because really, why am I in prison ? Well, I think I know why. However, it never happened to me, but I was accompanied by either Frederica or Allen are demi-humans. Rem had to join Roswaal, and Ram and Otto are in prison with me.
- Otto, I'm sorry about that punk Garfiel's behavior. He's wary of strangers.
Otto, sitting beside Viu in their prison cell, chuckled lightly.
- No need to apologize for Garfiel's actions, sir. It's understandable, given the situation.
Otto leaned back against the cold, damp stone wall, a thoughtful expression on his face.
- How are you holding up, if I may ask? The circumstances aren't exactly ideal...
- It's very simple. Do you remember the necklace I wear around my neck? It's like the papers you use to enter a country. The Sanctuary is an inaccessible place without it. But it's normal, reserved for demi-humans. Hence the fact that you and I are in prison.
Otto raised an eyebrow in surprise, his gaze falling to the necklace Viu referred to.
- Ah, I see, he said, the information sinking in.
- So the necklace serves as a form of identification for the Sanctuary, then?
He glanced around their prison cell, trying to grasp the situation they were in.
- But why are we imprisoned, if they recognize we have the identification needed ?
- The other times I was always accompanied by Frederica or Allen; two demi-humans ; which is not today and secondly Garfiel is wary of Roswaal.
Otto's expression turned serious, understanding the reason behind their imprisonment.
- I see... So it's because we weren't accompanied by a demi-human, and due to Garfiel's distrust of Roswaal.
He leaned back again, contemplating their predicament.
- It seems we're caught in the middle of a lot of politics and prejudice here, huh?
- Well, we just have to wait for Allen to come and free us.
Suddenly, Garfiel arrived, as expected to announce two pieces of news to me: Emilia and Allen are doing the trials. Emilia was stuck at the first trial and Allen was currently doing the second trial.
Otto's eyes widened at Garfiel's announcement, his expression filled with concern.
- The trials you say? And Emilia's stuck at the first one? He glanced at Viu, worry etched on his face. This isn't looking good, sir. Those trials... they're notoriously difficult.
- Oh yes, they are. Aren't they, Garfiel?
Garfiel, who had been standing guard outside the cell, nodded. His usually brash demeanor was now slightly subdued, replaced by a grave expression.
- Yeah, they sure are, he confirmed, his eyes locking with Viu. I ain't seen many make it past the first one, and the second one's no cakewalk either.
- Allen will pass the second trial, but risks failing the third.
Thanks to his senses, Viu knew what was happening throughout the Sanctuary without moving. Hence his calm.
Garfiel raised an eyebrow at Viu's statement, his expression skeptical.
- You seem pretty sure of that, he commented, his voice laced with a hint of doubt. How can you know for certain that your friend will pass the second trial, let alone the third? Those things ain't easy to predict, ya know.
- My senses were pushed to the maximum. If I have to make a comparison at the level of the senses Human < Animals < Demi-human < Other races < My senses.
Garfiel's eyes narrowed at Viu's explanation, a mix of disbelief and grudging curiosity.
- You're sayin' your senses are better than a demi-human's? he questioned, skepticism plain in his voice. That's a big claim to make, ya know. Especially since you're a human yourself.
- You saw my injuries. You should know that when a man survives such injuries his senses are heightened to their maximum according to what he has suffered.
Garfiel paused for a moment, thinking over Viu's words. He had indeed seen the severity of Viu's injuries, and the fact that he was still alive was nothing short of miraculous.
- My amazing self suppose that makes sense, he admitted, a hint of grudging respect in his tone. But still, even heightened senses ain't gonna be enough for those trials. You need more than that. Strength, wit, courage, and a whole lot of luck, too.
- I never said I was going to pass it, just that I know through my senses what's happening.
Garfiel nodded, understanding Viu's point.
- So ya're not planning to participate in the trials, just keep your senses on things, huh? he mused, his gaze lingering on Viu with a mix of admiration and disbelief. That's a pretty weird ability ya got there, knowing things without even moving. I gotta say, it's kinda impressive.
- At least you know that I'm not just a stranger and a friend of "traitors" as you say. Yup. Even though I literally have two witch scents, I'm not one of them like Ryuzu Shima must have warned you. And yes, that's the reason for you putting me in this prison this time. I know it's because of that. And you also put Otto with me because he's my ally.
I know she warned him as soon as I arrived and she was terrified to the point of telling Garfiel. Knowing the level of danger I represent he did not try to kill me, but he hid the truth from Rem.
Garfiel's eyes widened as Viu accurately guessed the reasons behind their imprisonment. His mouth hung open slightly in astonishment, a look of surprise replacing his usual defiant scowl.
- How the— he started, his voice trailing off. How the hell do ya know all this? You've only been here a couple days, and yet you've got it all figured out?
A few days? And Roswaal hasn't done anything yet? Or Rem's presence is delaying events, but for how long?
- No need for complicated powers when you have senses like mine. I didn't tell Otto and I preferred that you and him be at the same level of information to think.
Garfiel's gaze darted between Viu and Otto, his expression a mix of surprise and grudging respect.
- You're damn perceptive, I'll give you that, he admitted, shaking his head in disbelief. I ain't ever met someone who can just... know things without moving. Like you got eyes and ears everywhere or somethin'.
