[ Arc 2 - 3 ] Arlam Village
Arriving at Arlam Village, Mabeasts had already invaded half of the village and killed some inhabitants as well as destroyed the protective barrier. Immediately, Viu wrote Demon Exterminator Fire.
The words "Demon Exterminator Fire" materialized in the air as Viu muttered the phrase.
Flames suddenly appeared out of thin air, manifesting into an enormous inferno. It engulfed the nearby mabeasts, searing them to ashes and leaving nothing but smoking embers in its wake.
The heat from the fire was intense, and a wave of warmth spread through the air, driving back the mabeast invasion.
He went to the most affected. Those who were dead were just cleaned of all curses and those who were injured were healed and freed from the curse by Viu. Then after having destroyed the already cracked barrier himself he wrote the word "Ultimate Barrier" and it protected the village.
As Viu wrote the word "Ultimate Barrier", the protective shield around the village strengthened and expanded. It shimmered like a translucent wall, impenetrable to any outside force.
The mabeasts outside the barrier, enraged, threw themselves blindly against it, but not even the strongest managed to breach it. The barrier stood firm, shielding the inhabitants inside completely.
But the fire consumed them all to the point of joining them in the forest especially since the Demon Exterminating Fire does not burn the forest but only the Mabeasts. Viu walked in the forest in search of the bitten children.
Viu walked through the scorched clearing, the ashes of defeated mabeasts crunching beneath his feet. The air was hot and dry from the fire, the blackened ground a testament to the battle that had just taken place.
He moved deeper into the forest, searching carefully for any sign of the bitten children. The sun was already setting, casting long shadows across the burnt trees and undergrowth.
He only fell on three of them. Two had already died from the curse but he cleansed their bodies. However, there were still three left alive including Petra Leyte. He healed the three there in the same way he healed Rem and the surviving villagers.
- Go! I'll take care of all this.
The children nodded, their small bodies trembling with a mix of fear and exhaustion. They exchanged glances before silently slipping into the safety of the trees, disappearing into the shadows of the forest.
Viu watched them go, a sense of relief washing over him. He then turned his attention back to the task at hand, steeling himself for whatever came next.
- Meili Portroute! I knew you're the one controlling the Mabeasts and you want to avenge Elsa's death! So come fight!
There was a rustling in the bushes, and a moment later, Meili appeared, her green eyes meeting Viu's gaze defiantly.
- You figured it out, huh? She said, her voice cold and devoid of emotion. And what are you going to do about it, I wonder?
- Enough.
The flames burn all the remaining Mabeasts then he writes the word "Healing Fire of Inner Traumas and Wounds" then he sends against Meili directly.
Meili stumbled back as the flames enveloped the area, the light casting strange shadows across her face.
The flames changed, their color shifting to a soft, soothing hue, different from the bright orange they had been moments ago. As they hit Meili, she let out a strangled gasp, her eyes widening in surprise.
Then, she froze, her whole body going rigid, as if she was experiencing something she never had before.
Meili collapsed to her knees, her eyes wide and unseeing, lost in the torrent of memories that flooded her mind. The flames continued their work, burning away the pain and hatred that had fueled her actions.
He took her in his arms keeping her against him. All the Mabeasts were dead and he kept her in his arms.
- Your so-called mother won't come looking for you anymore. I've freed you from your past.
Meili clung to Viu, her small body trembling with the force of her emotions. She held on to him tightly, tears streaming down her face as the realization of what had happened sank in.
- I...I..., she stuttered, struggling to find words. I don't... I don't have to be her tool anymore...
- I'm sorry about Elsa's death. But you know her. It's not her thing to listen but she died happy now.
Meili sniffled, her gaze dropping to the ground.
- I know... she was so stubborn. But I... I still miss her, you know?
She looked up at Viu, her eyes still filled with tears.
- But you... you really think she died happy?
- Yes, she was.
Meili nodded, her expression reflecting a mixture of sadness and acceptance.
- I... I'm glad...
She leaned against Viu, burying her face in his chest, seeking comfort in the unfamiliar embrace.
He held her close and then whispered,
- I'm not going to tell the others.
Meili looked up at Viu, a small flicker of surprise in her eyes.
- You... you won't? Her voice was soft, filled with uncertainty. But... why?
- Even though you have committed worse crimes, you are still a child and the ones truly responsible are Capella and Elsa; especially Capella.
Meili's shoulders hunched, her guilt heavy on her small frame.
- I... I know I've done terrible things, she whispered. I just... I was just a tool, a puppet. But... I still feel terrible, thinking about all the pain I caused...
- You know, what if you made a whole new start?
Meili blinked at Viu's words, her eyes widening slightly.
- A...a new start? She repeated, as if the idea was foreign to her.
She was silent for a few moments, considering his words. Then, she nodded slowly.
- A new start... yeah...
He smiled tenderly.
- Are you planning to stay living in the village?
Meili shook her head, her gaze directed towards the trees.
- No, I don't think I could stay here. Too many bad memories.
She looked up at Viu, her expression a mix of uncertainty and hope.
- But... where should I go ?
- Come with me.
Meili looked at Viu, surprise and hope warring in her eyes.
- Come with you? You... you would take me with you ?
- Sure. I could adopt you and even if I'm 21 and you're 12 it could work.
Meili's eyes widened further, disbelief etched on her face.
- You... you would adopt me? You would want to take care of me?
She was quiet for a moment, her mind struggling to process the surprise.
- But... why?
- Because I don't want to leave anyone alone or abandoned.
Meili's lips trembled, her face crumpling as tears welled up in her eyes.
- You're... you're far too kind, she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. No one... no one has ever wanted to take care of me before.
- Come on, let's go home.
Meili nodded, her small hand slipping into Viu's.
- Okay, she whispered. I'll come with you.
