Chapter 20

Audrey

Keith and Em sat side by side on the couch with controllers in their hands. They viciously pressed the buttons with their thumbs as they shouted at each other. For the third time since I walked in, Keith died. "You're cheating!" Keith accused.

Em rolled her eyes in response, but managed to kill him another time. "I never even played before! How could I cheat?!" she shouted back at him. Honestly, I have no idea why they're shouting. They're literally right next to each other. Em looked like she was just pressing random buttons. Keith knew exactly what he was doing, yet Em continued to kill him.

Laughing, I sat in the love seat and watched Em kill Keith for the eighth time. They continued to bicker about Em cheating, while I silently watched them. I could imagine them as mates; but no one will know until her birthday. After a while, I got bored. There's only so many times that you can watch your best friend get killed before you get bored.

I didn't bother telling them that I was leaving; they were too engrossed in the game to hear anything that I say. 'Can we hang out with Thomas?' Casey asked. I smiled before agreeing and walking to his office. Maybe we can just wait until he's finished with whatever he's doing.

Walking into the office, I was greeted by an empty room. Thomas must have gone somewhere. I sat down in his chair and picked up a random paper from his desk. It was paperwork for the girls, but some information was missing. I grabbed a pen and started filling it out. It gives my mate one less thing to do. I looked around the desk for anything else I could do.

A folded paper caught my eye. I grabbed it to reveal the note that Anthony left me. "He took this?" I whispered to myself. Why would he take it? It said absolutely nothing. "It doesn't matter" I stated while shaking the thoughts out of my head. It's just a note.

I started organizing his desk, since there were papers everywhere. I put all the papers in a neat stack and put the pen in the drawer. Once his desk looked clean, I glanced around the room for something else to do. Yellow paper had me glancing at the floor. There was a notepad sitting by the wall, like someone had thrown it.

He probably got too stressed out and threw it. I picked up the notepad and set it on top of the papers. As I set it down, I realized that there was writing on it.

ANTHONY REYNOLDS

His name was in big letters at the top of the paper. Underneath his name was what I guessed were notes.

Accomplice?

-in castle

-Royal Pack?

-Blue Moon Pack?

My eye brows furrowed together as I continued to scan the page. It was about the kidnapping. My kidnapping. Thomas thinks that Anthony had help from someone other than Malcom. But why wouldn't he tell me? He wrote down a few of his theories. There were possibilities of the person being a Royal Guard. Notes about how Anthony got information on us were scattered around the page.

Somehow, Anthony had our names a few days after we were born. He knew that we would be in the nursery the day that he kidnapped me. I turned to the next page and gasped. Thomas had Keith as a suspect. He had questions and notes about another block being in his mind. Since Keith was only a baby as well, there were a few suspicions about Keith's parents being involved.

However, Keith's dad died before he was even born. All I know is that he was a witch. His mom was a rogue witch when Keith was born. She never joined our little community. A few months after we had turned fifteen, she died. And Keith ended up moving in with us. Even if they were involved, then there's no way to confirm it.

"What are you doing?" I jumped in my seat, startled by the sudden voice. Lifting my gaze, I spotted my mate walking closer to the desk. "Why are you reading that?" he questioned as he snatched the notepad out of my hands. Rude.

I attempted to take it back, but he held it behind his back. "It's about me. I have a right to read it" I argued. Thomas shook his head and ripped off the top few pages before stuffing them in his pocket. "I have a right to know about my own kidnapping" I stated. He continued to shake his head. I looked down at the desk and saw the letter from my father. I looked up at Thomas, noticing that he was still shaking his head. "You had no right to take my letter" I said angrily.

He sighed. "I do have a right to take that. I deserve to know what is going on in my mate's life" he stated calmly. His casual tone had made me angrier about the situation.

Abruptly, I stood from the chair, accidentally pushing it back in the process. "If I don't get to know about my own kidnapping, then you don't get to know anything about my life" I sneered. How in the world does he think this is okay? I don't get to know about his theories of my kidnapping; yet he feels like he deserves to know everything about me.

Clenching my fists, I stomped around the side of the desk and towards the door. However, my mate caught my wrist before I got too far. I angrily yanked my wrist out of his grasp. "You need to leave me alone" I stated before leaving the office. As much as I wanted to, I didn't slam the door behind me.

Breathing heavily from the anger, I made my way to the kitchen. "Whoa. Why are you so mad?" Stewart questioned.

I grabbed a cup and filled it with water. "Your damn son" I mumbled before sipping on the cold liquid. I didn't even have a five minute conversation with Thomas, but I left with anger coursing through my veins. He was just being unfair about the whole thing. What gives him the right to know more about my life, than I do? It's my life!

"Do you have Eve's number?" I blurted. Stewart nodded his head and pulled out his phone. He handed me the device, and I thanked him while taking it. After finding my mother's number, I pressed the call button. Stewart quickly ducked out the room to give me privacy. I made a mental note to thank him again.

The dial tone stopped before Eve's voice filtered through the phone. "Stewart? Is Audrey alright?" she asked immediately.

A small smile crept on my face, knowing that she was worried about me. "It's Audrey. And I'm fine" I informed her. She sighed in relief. "Are you guys doing anything today? I kinda need a break from this pack" I admitted, half-truthfully.

Eve was quiet for a few moments before she answered. "We're not doing anything. And if you want to talk about your mate problems, I'm sure you'll have many people to listen" she stated.

I'm guessing that she has really good 'motherly instincts'. "Is someone available to pick me up?" I inquired. "I don't have a car and I'm not entirely sure how to get to the castle from here" I said. I can't believe that I used the word 'available'. It sounds so sophisticated. Eve told me that Jacobs could pick me up before we ended the call.

Walking out of the kitchen, I quickly spotted Stewart. "Thank you. Jacobs is coming to pick me up" I informed him. He gave me a nod as he went back into the kitchen. I have missed Jacobs. We haven't talked much since our midnight coffee outing. And I could really use someone to vent to at the moment.

**************************************************************************

"Hello, young wolfie" Jacobs greeted me as I opened the door. My face involuntarily scrunched up at the nickname. "You don't like the nickname, wolfie?" he teased. Instead of replying, I slammed the door in his face. I cooled down after the Thomas incident; but obviously, I was still slightly heated.

After listening to Jacobs knock for five minutes straight, I opened the door again. "Okay. I'll pick a new nickname" Jacobs said defeated. I smiled triumphantly while opening the door wider for him to enter. "I was summoned here to escort you to the castle, Princess Audrey" Jacobs said in a posh accent.

Laughing, I closed the door behind him as he plopped down on the couch. "I know that you just got comfortable, but can we leave? Like now?" I blurted.

He looked up at me and studied my face. "What's the hurry?" he inquired while searching my eyes. I quickly turned my head and pushed back the thoughts about my fight with Thomas. "Well, you can tell me in the car then" he decided while standing back up.

I didn't object since I was most likely going to tell him during the ride. There is no way that I could keep in all of the words that wanted to come out about my idiotic mate. We quickly went to his car and got in. Jacobs maneuvered out of the line of cars. This pack house really needs a garage. Jacobs kept glancing at me as he drove, waiting for me to say something.

Looking out the window, I sighed. "Thomas is investigating my kidnapping" I informed him. Jacobs turned to me to raise an eyebrow before focusing back on the road. "I was cleaning his office and found his notes about it-"

"So you were snooping" Jacobs cut me off.

Rolling my eyes, I hit his arm. "I was not snooping. I decided to fill out some paperwork to help him out since he's basically been living in that office. After that, I cleaned up his office. The notepad was on the floor, so I picked it up. I saw Anthony's name; so of course, I read it" I stated. I'm curious as to who the man that raised me really is. He lied to me my whole life. How could I trust anything I have learned about him?

Jacobs sighed and told me to continue. "I was reading the information he got, then he came into the office. He snatched it away and ripped the pages off. He said that I had no right to read his work, yet he stole the letter that Anthony gave me!" I ranted angrily.

"What letter?" Jacobs quickly questioned.

I forgot that I didn't tell anyone about it. "Anthony left me a letter about how he loves me so much. Thomas and I went to my old house to get it, and apparently he took it back to the pack house" I stated. "His excuse was that he deserves to know what goes on in my life since we're mates. But he could possibly know more about my kidnapping than me. It's not fair. I deserve to know about my own kidnapping. I was the one kidnapped. And anything that he learns about Anthony, I deserve to know. I lived with that man for 18 years- my whole frickin' life!"

"Okay. Calm down a little" Jacobs said softly. I took deep breaths before unclenching my fists. "What Thomas did was wrong, but he could have an explanation. It's possible that he stopped investigating and he didn't want to worry you for nothing" he suggested.

Shaking my head, I tucked my hair behind my ear. "That's the thing. I think he just started investigating. Maybe that's why he's been working so much because he working on my kidnapping" I voiced my thoughts. My reasoning was more likely than Jacobs. I think he agreed with me because he was silent the rest of the ride.

I honestly don't care why he didn't tell me. I just care about what was on the rest of those papers.
