Redback carried the pups, shame clouding in his eyes as all eyes were focused on him and the pups.  He placed them down on the cold stone floor. The largest of the two was pure black and the other had a white base coat and black splotches. Like all new pups, their eyes were white. They would change once they received their ability.

Then, he turned to look at the gems on the floor. He picked up a bright green gem and a pure white gem and placed them in front of the pups. The largest out of the two curiously wobbled forward and touched the green gem with its nose.

All wolves held their breath as green vines of ivy grew around the pup's paws. A small green iris  appeared in each of her eyes. After a few seconds of silence, the next pup tumbled forward and touched the white gem. A enlarged brown iris appeared in each eye. Phantom grinned and muttered "Looks like we have a beta", he sprung up and bit the little one's back harshly.

Red-back nearly let out a growl at Phantom flung it up into the air, the pup landed with a yelp. But, before Phantom could attack her again, a vine wrapped around the pup. The pup was pulled back instantly. Soon enough, it tugged the small pup behind the larger pup.

Red-back struggled to hold back a gasp as Phantom gave up.  "I'll name the beta Arrow, and the alpha... Ivy" He rumbled, glaring at Ivy. "When it is time for them to become apprentices, their mentors will be Fawn and Patch."

Once they had traveled back home, Arrow looked up at Red-back "W-Why were they being s-so mean?" she asked. Red-back bit back tears as she talked. Knowing that he had ruined her reputation, he didn't respond and walked to the Alphas den. He turned his head just in time to see Ivy's tail on Arrow's back, she was quietly leading her sister to the pup's den. A large wolf whom he recognized as Hail growled at them.

Red-back winced as he remembered that all beta pups had to sleep out in the open. Slowly, Arrow stalked over and sat near the other betas. Ivy was soon ushered into the pup's den. Red-back shook his head and charged out of the alphas den. He slumped into the omegas den, looking at his mate, Ocean.

Ocean had recently become pregnant, he disliked it but didn't show it much. His stomach had grown quite large. "Ocean, how are you doing?" Red-back asked, "Not well, i've thrown up twice this morning" he wheased. Red-back laid beside his mate, placing his tail on Ocean's back. Slowly falling asleep.

Red-back opened his eyes with alarm to see someone he never thought he would see again...
