#9 ~ In a Daze
I honestly hate when people tell you they have a secret, yet won't tell you what it is. Like honestly, if they really didn't want you to know why would they even bring it up. Especially when their secret affects you. It like 'OMG can you just spill already'. Anyway, I think you guys all know what I'm getting at. Yup, Zane will not budge. What makes it worse is that he was away the next day for the English Romeo and Juliet excursion, and since we are in different classes mine wasn't till next week.
It took a week to find out. A whole SIX DAYS. It was a Monday afternoon, at Maxs house. We were working on our music assignment; I was standing nervously in front of the mic, staring at it in horror. "Put you face closer, almost touching it" Maxs dad told me, as the guys were fiddling with their instruments. "o..okay" I stammered as I moved a few shuffled steps closer to the mic. "good" he said, exiting through the side door.
As soon as I saw him leave I quickly took a step back. "Okay let's begin" Max said. When we got to the chorus I was more confident, as I knew the lyrics better. "You'll be the moon I'll be the earth and when we burst, start over, oh darling, begin again begin again" I sang, staring at Zane who was opposite to me. In the middle of this he pointed at me with his drum stick, making my heart almost stop. Then I quickly looking away, hiding my blushing face. Bad move. I turned to face Max who was standing at the keyboard and when our eyes met he gave me a wink. Smiling a little I looked away, down at my music this time though.
After a few more run throughs we decided to take a break. Rushing across to the couch I flopped down, sinking into the comfy cushions. Noticing Zane next to me I looked at him and asked him "Can you tell me what it is now?"
Almost as soon as I asked this Max and Mark decided it would be a good time to exit. Noticing the room had suddenly gone quiet I asked again "Are you going to tell me?"
He looked at me nervously, mumbling something under his breath. "What?" I said, puzzled. "I like you" he said. I think about five seconds past before I fully registered what he just said. Without thinking a leant over and gave him a hug. Quickly retracting I thought to myself 'idiot!'
That was the Monday. The Tuesday went pretty uneventful. I wasn't going to tell Zane that I liked him as well. Nuh Uh. The only big things were that it was my dad's birthday and Max, Mark, Zane and I performed our song in front of the class. The next day I didn't have to go to school as it was my turn to go to the English excursion.
In the morning our teacher loaded us onto the coaches so we could get to the city ASAP. I quickly slid into a window seat, Kirk sitting down next to me. The ride was alright if you think becoming super bus sick and nearly fainting and vomiting alright.
When we eventually made it to First Fleet Park I staggered out of the bus, holding my stomach. After a few minutes my bus sickness disappeared and my class got ready to go on our 'tour'. We walked around the city looking around.
"Hey Eliza" My teacher calls out to me "Can you hold these?" I walk over to her and I am presented with her rings "Sure miss" I answered slipping them over my finger. "And this" she hands over the stack of sheets she was carrying. "And take these" I then swiftly and carefully grab her sunglasses out of her mouth where they were being held away from the sunscreen.
"Miss, The argyle and the cut are both down there" Kirk said, pointing to two restaurants blow the bridge were are standing on. "We're not going to restaurants idiot" I said before I burst into uncontrollable giggles. "I think the argyle cut is the same place" Ellie says and Sara agrees with "Yeah. Miss I think it's down there."
We had a lunch break where we could go and get whatever we wanted. Ellie, Sarah and Kirk got gelatissiomos (Lame) and Emily and I got giant two scoop ice-cream cups from Baskin and Robin. I got Choc Chip Cookie Dough and Fairy Floss. Alone they are amazing, but when the last parts melted into each other I must say it wasn't the most delicious thing I've ever tasted.
The few classes that had come gathered together in front of the opera house to get marked off and to get the tickets. When we entered the room, I was seated between Emily and Kirk. Throughout the whole first part they were both laughing hysterically at 'inappropriate jokes'. Jokes that I didn't even get, therefore I was the one in the middle not laughing and kept asking "What? Why are you laughing?"
In interval Kirk showed Emily and I a photo of him from primary school and we absolutely lost it. He had long girl like hair that fell a little longer than his shoulders. After finally calming down our teacher looked at Kirk and I and gave us the 'I'm watching you' hand signal. Faking shock, another teacher came and sat in the empty seat next to Kirk. That meant that the whole second half we were completely silent.
The next few weeks went by pretty uneventful. I did eventually tell Zane that I liked him. Actually on the day of the WGS (World's Greatest Shave) mufti day. It also turned out that it was Maxs last day at school for a while, He was going on holiday to America and wasn't coming back for a few months. Zane also asked that once he left we would become a 'thing'. My answer: Not Yet. I'm not ready. I said when I turn 15, then we can. If it lasts that long (Which I hope it does).
Guess what we had again?!?! Shock surprise, another music excursion. It was a cold and rainy Wednesday and I had to get my dad to drive me to school. If it wasn't raining and there was no traffic I could have easily made it to school on time. But no, after waiting in the freezing cold rain for ten minutes I realised I would be late if my dad didn't drive me. I quickly called home and got him to pick me up and take me.
Luckily I got to school in time. I got my name marked off and stood out of the rain with Zane. I was shivering and sneezing cause me being the smart person I couldn't be bothered to get my jumper out of my bag. We eventually piled onto the bus. Zane and I were in the second seat, behind two year seven guys. They were quite annoying to tell you the truth. Zane had his arm around my shoulder (Most people asked if we were going out. My constant reply 'No' didn't seem enough reasoning for them) and one of the guys was asking what he was doing, constantly. Anyway the traffic was t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e. A whole TWO HOURS it took to get to the place where the James Morrison concert was being held. When we eventually arrived we were told to leave all our things in the bus, my bag and..... My jumper.
We had to wait outside between two buildings that made a sort of wind tunnel. Can you see two things about this that would make it bad for me?? One: I was FREEZING and Two: I had on a Kilt, Kilt + Wind = just No. After a while of standing around the teacher told us that we had missed the concert. Yep you heard me right. We MISSED the concert. A two-hour bus trip for absolutely no reason!!
To try and make it up to us we got a five-minute chat with James Morrison, something that 'no school has ever had' it was very 'exclusive' and quite interesting. Then guess what?!?!? Another two-hour bus trip back to school. Yay...Not. At least I got to spend some time with Zane.
The next week was the week before Easter. My family and our friends from church (Kaiden, Micah, Kye, Tahlia and their parents) went to the Easter show. It was amazing. You see I'd never been to the Easter show so it was a great new experience. I got two show bags (A fashion one and a fizzer one), I also got a bertie beetles one for my maths teacher who gave me money to buy her one. In the animal pavilions I carried two-year-old Tahlia almost the whole time. Her brother Kye (6) had stolen her stroller and she didn't want to walk. I took her into pat the baby piglet (so adorable) but she wouldn't pat them. She would squeal every time I put her near them.
We watched a few shows before it began to rain. We decided to make the most of the rain and went to look around the food displays. The best part, mum let my buy cinnamon donut balls, YUM. We got our showbags after that and that was amazing. The pavilion was so cool, filled with amazing things. We did manage to lose Kye though. One minute he was with us and the next he wasn't. Kaiden and I had to look after the other while all our parents went out to look for him. Eventually dad found him and we all assembled together. Making sure all the little children were with an adult we kept going. Kaiden and I went off by ourselves for a little but met up as we moved towards the wood chopping area.
We watched that for a little before we made our way to Spotless Stadium for the rodeo. I thought it was terrible. I kept thinking that the rider would get really badly injured. This didn't seem to phase Kaiden, who cheered louder and got more excited if the rider fell off and got hurt. Idiot.
After the rodeo there was a re-enactment of the poem 'the man from snowy river' or whatever it's called. It was majorly boring. After that was the motorbike stunt people. One word: AMAZING. It was so cool how they did all the flips and everything, especially how they landed them perfectly every time. Then came the fireworks. They went for super long time and were utterly amazing. It was a great way to end the night.
In the Easter long weekend my family and I went up to Port Macquarie (as usual). We celebrated Easter with our grandparents and my great-grandfather. One of the days we went for a picnic by the lake and Ronan and I got to try out my great-grandfathers new mobility scooter. It was super fun. I got LOADS of Easter eggs and it was a great break from school.
Back at school for the last few weeks were pretty boring. I also started to get annoyed when people KEPT asking if Zane and I were a couple. How many times can I say no? I did a couple of Photo shoots for the school website and the new NS5 website and before I knew it the holidays were nearly upon us.
Maths, the last period of the term. I thought that would be terrible. But I was wrong. For the first half of the lesson our teacher let us play kahoots. It's a quiz game that's really fun. Then she told us that we would be joining the other top maths class outside. Zane and Tianas class. Inside I was doing a super happy dance, wait no, maybe I was doing it on the outside as well.
Anyway the teacher gave as all a piece of paper with either a question or an answer on it. Thanks to the maths faculties 'cupid skills' they decide that when you found you 'match' you would have to hold hands with them. Once everyone got their paper it was an utter shemozzle to find who was the other half of their piece. My partner turned out to be one of Nialls friends and Niall and I swapped so that they could be each other's partners. Turns out that Nialls partner was actually Ariana so we were partners and we went around to wear Zane and Kirk were standing. Just as the teacher said "Now hold hands with your partner" Ariana swapped with Zane. So guess who's hand I was holding??
To tell you the truth, I really didn't mind. I mean I really liked (and still do) Zane. So it was all good on my part. It was really just I was worried about how he felt. But even that couldn't bring down my happy feeling.
On the first week of the holidays my dad took Ronan, and my two cousins and I up to Port. We did something fun and exciting every day. First we did waterslides, then putt putt, then we went to the movies and then on a river cruise. It was a great week and I had so much fun I barely remembered how much I missed my friends.
The next week was also spent in Port but without my little cousins. A week of peace. The Beach, the pool and the sun. Super relaxing.
On the Friday of the second week we left port after lunch, because I had a sleepover at Ariana's. Most of my friends were gonna be there: Zane, Tiana, Ari, Cam, Mark, Ellie, Sara and Luke. It started at 2pm but my family didn't leave Port till 2:30 so I was already running late. Four and a bit hours later I finally got there.
I walked up the front path in the dark with Ari and Zane and I was wondering where the other were. When I got up to the front deck they all jumped out of the massive cardboard boxes that were lined up. Surprised I let out a little shriek. Laughing we all made our way inside.
Quickly everyone bagsed a couch to watch the movie from. I ended up between T and Zane. The first movie we watched was called 5th Wave. It was about aliens that were slowly taking over the earth and the children were the only ones safe. The main character, Cass, lost both her parents int the 'waves' that the aliens sent. Luckily her adorable little brother survived. She also had a little help from a human/alien named Evan. The actor who plays him is so cool. T and I kept whispering and laughing about him, which really annoyed Zane. It was so funny.
After the movie it was dessert. Unfortunately, I had to pass as I had a major pain in the stomach. I took a couch that was out of the way so that I could have it to myself and lie down. I told Ari that I didn't mind where I was and they didn't have to move it, but they did. The movie we watched was called 'The Martian' and was about a guy left stranded on mars. It was less violent then the one before but for a whole scene I had my eyes closed and was squeezing Zane's hand super hard. It was when the guy had to pull out the antenna that had speared into his stomach. No way could I watch that without vomiting.
After the movie we all settled down to a nice game of truth or dare. It was super fun as some of the dare were super weird and we all could have some laughs. Especially when Luke and Cam did a 'slow dance'!
After the game we sent the guys outside (they had to sleep in the cold and wet, haha). Us girls had our usual chats before deciding it was time to sleep. We got about four hours before we got up. We may have gotten more if T and Ellie didn't spoil the guys prank on us. We all got up and sat in the lounge room in our sleeping bags. We spent ages just talking before we decided to get up and make waffles for breakfast. WHITE CHOC WAFFLES FTW!!!
Eventually everyone began to leave and that's when it hit me, school is starting soon.
*****Special POV (Zane)*****
She's the most beautiful person I've ever met. The most intelligent, clever and funny person in the universe, and I like her. I think that I've given gave enough clues about that. I told her that the lie affected her, and then I told Tiana, and Cam. Neither wanted to tell her the 'good news', so instead, I took the opportunity of the music practise we had. After I told Max and Mark, to move to a different room. I told Eliza. She hugged me straight afterwards. I didn't know whether that was a good sign or not, I'd never been in this kind of situation before, well, not one that ended well. Later that night, I told Cam that I'd told Eliza.
"Zane, why did she hug you?" The answer I got. It wasn't, 'oh, that's awesome Zane', or, 'well done Zane'. I guess he didn't really care much. I felt my life was worthless back then. That was until Eliza started talking about giraffes and elephants and zebras, and that's when I realised she liked me too. A huge surge of relief hit me. The rest of that week flew by, mostly due to the fact that I seem to forget anything that isn't school-worthy or social. We seemed to just sit and doze in the last few weeks of school. I asked Eliza if we were going to be 'a thing', but she said that her parents didn't want her to date until she was 15. To be honest, I don't really care. We still do 'pretty much everything a couple does' (Ethan). On the last period of the term, my maths class and E's class combined and we did a game to do with equations. It also included us holding hands with another person. After swapping multiple times, E and I ended up holding hands, the first time we'd ever done this. We were off and running.
The holidays were too long for me. Too long away from E, as much as the summer holidays were longer. I'd liked her since leadership camp last year, as much as I'd been hiding that from everyone. I didn't want Max to hate me...
That kinda backfired when I brought up the Christian thing with Eliza last year. At least it didn't stop her from liking me this year. Apparently, she started liking me right at the end of last year, once she 'broke up' with Max. I hope that's enough from me, Eliza seems to write these chapters better than me, but I might talk to you all later. Zane.
