"You failed, you know, on the street."

"Yeah, I kind of figured that out when I woke up here."

I suddenly whipped around and moved in front of her with my lightning fast Strigoi speed. She flinched and I don't know why but I enjoyed it.

"I am a little dissapointed, "I said," You are so good Rose, very, very, good. You and your friends going around and taking down Strigoi caused quite a stir, you know. Some Strigoi were even afraid"

"But not you ?"

That was a good question. Was I afraid of her? Yes I was. But after she hesitated in the street, my heart knew she couldn't kill me just as I couldn't hurt her. Our love had transcended fate and none of us could deny the truth now.

"When I heard it was you...hmm, No. I was curious. Wary. If anyone could've killed me it would have been you. But like I said. You hesitated . It was the ultimate test of my lessons an you failed. "

Truely it was highly disappointing. Though I was happy to be alive but she failed in what I had always trained her to do. Her face was a perfectly smooth guardian mask. It was difficult to get a grip on her true feelings.

"I won't hesitate next time," she replied, confident as always.

I couldn't help a smile. Didn't she realize that I wouldn't give her a next time?

"There won't be a next time," I said bitterly, "And anyway as disappointed as I am in you, I am still glad to be alive of course."

"You aren't alive," she said through gritted teeth, "You're dead. Unnatural. You told me a long time ago you'd rather die than be like this. That's why I'm going to kill you."

I could feel the dilemma in her eyes. She could never kill me as I could not harm her. But those words aroused some part of me buried deep inside. Was I really that evil? How did I get to this point? How did Rose come to hate me so much?

I was a monster and I didn't want to live this life. But, I had tried to kill myself, without success. And if I can't die, then she has to join me. After seeing her again, it was impossible to let her go.

I had to play on and convince her. Then we could be together for eternity. The new found power and clarity was driving me insane.

"You're only saying that because you don't know any better, I didn't even back then."

"Look, I meant what I said," revulsion clear in her tone, "I'm not playing your game. If I can't get out of here, then just kill me, okay?"
