Strike Two
A/N Daniella's last name is Matthews😁😁
After about a half hour the fields come into view. I smile at Philip and he gives me a look, one that says 'remember what we talked about'
"I know, I know." I sigh.
"I didn't even say anything." He laughs. We pull in and he parks his car in the lot.
"Lets go!" I say grabbing my bat bag out of the truck. I begin to jog down to the gate of the fenced in field. When I reach the gate I turn around to see Philip still far behind. "Come on slowpoke!" I taunt him. I see him smile and he picks up the pace.
We walk in together. Someone from our team whistles.
"There are the love birds." Of course, George Eacker.
"Shut it Eacker, you know we're just friends." I shoot back at him.
"Why don't you come over here and make me hot stuff." He smirks. I glare at him and start to walk over before I feel someone pull the back of my shirt. I turn to see Philip frowning at Eacker and pulling me back.
"Cut it out George." He says very serious.
"Aww, little Philip to the rescue." He teases making Philip angrier. That's when our coach walked in.
"Hamilton. Eacker. Matthews. Enough. This is a baseball diamond, not a wrestling ring." He says sternly.
"Yes coach." We all say together. I give George one more dirty look then turn back to Philip.
"Wanna warm up with some catch?" I ask waving my glove. He nods, but he looks distracted.
We walk down the foul line and stand about twenty feet apart to start. He throws first and it goes higher than I can reach so I have to jump to catch it. When I do I look back and return the ball.
"Keep those down, Hamilton." I say with a smirk. He smiles and nods his head. He throws again and it's right to me. Soon enough we get into a good rhythm and the ball didn't drop once.
After about twenty minutes coach calls us into the dugout for his pep talk.
"Ok guys, this is a tough team, but so are we. So we're gonna go out there, and show 'em who's the boss! Right Blue Jays?!" He says hyping us up.
"Right!" We all answer together.
"Alright! Now here's the batting order. Hamilton, batting first, pitching. Matthews, batting second, catching. Eacker, batting third, playing first...." He goes through the rest of the team.
I nod and smile at Philip. He smiles at me while he puts his batting gloves on and his helmet. I hand him his bat and high five him.
"You got this." I say grinning. He smiled back.
"Thanks." He says then walk to the plate. He looks at the umpire and give him one sharp nod, signaling he was ready.
"Play ball!" He yells in a deep voice. The pitcher winds up. He turns and throws the ball quick, but not to quick for Philip.
He steps and moves his body into his swing, send the ball flying to left field. He takes off to first. I was worried that they were gonna catch it in the air, but when they missed it and it rolled farther behind them I knew he was at least making it to second.
He stretched his luck and rounded second moving at quick as his legs could move him. The outfielder throws the ball. And at the last second he slid into third. A cloud of smoke surrounds third base. When it clears the umpire can be clearly seen.
"Safe!" He yells and everyone one begins cheering.
I'm next. I make my way down to the plate and take a couple practice swings. When I feel I'm ready I nod at the ump. The pitcher winds up and releases the ball. It doesn't look good so I don't swing.
"Ball one." The umpire yells.
The pitcher winds up again and throws the ball faster this time. But it still doesn't look right. I don't swing.
"Ball two." The umpire says.
The pitcher winds up for a third time. I wanna swing this time. When he throws it I notice it's going a lot faster, and coming right at me.
I quickly jump out of the batter's box before the ball can hit me. The ball is to quick for even the catcher to get and it shoots right behind him. I hear it smack the metal fencing behind me. That would have really hurt.
"Ball three." The umpire announces.
Now this can go two ways. I can A.- let him walk me. Or B.- take a chance and swing. I hate being walked.
I step back into the batter's box, with determination in my stance. The pitcher winds back up. When he releases the ball it finally looks like something I could hit. So when I think the time is right, I shift my weight, step, and swing.
Smack!
I could hear and feel the ball roll of my bat. I wasn't worried about where it was going, just about getting to first. When I make it I lead off and look for the ball. It's being thrown to home to make the play on Philip. I know he'll make it so I take the opportunity to run to second.
As I'm running I'm watching the play. Half way there I see the ump call Philip safe. But it's not over yet. A quarter of the distance away, I see the catcher throw the ball to the second baseman, who is on the corner of the bag.
The world seems to be moving in slow motion. When the ball is milliseconds from being their I drop into a slide. When my foot hits the base I look to the umpire.
"You are-"
Is she safe? Is she out? The world may never know. Jk, you'll find out in the next update. See you there. Byeeeee.
