Chapter Ten: Loving

so would anyone appreciate a Joan and Talyn oneshots book?

Virgil was having one of those days. One of those days where his mind couldn't help but wander, wondering what could and what will his relationship be in the future?

Will it be shattered, broken into fragments and leaving nothing but a blurry memory of what it once was? Or will it be purely based on the love they could still share, fluffy with cuddles and kisses?

Virgil would never know, not until later.

He sighed, knowing his thoughts would never be fully put to rest. The least he could do was keep his mouth shut. He didn't want Roman to worry about him, and, if it would end in heartbreak, provide a false sense of security.

Virgil started to feel the soft pitter-patter of rain on the balcony. The mindscape was huge, and there were still places not even they knew about. He cracked a small smile, dismissing a few of the thoughts that tormented him.

He just needed to think right now, and as soon as he realized that, the dark thoughts came crawling right back.

Virgil's mind started to wander even more. Would he not be good enough for Roman? Would he not be pretty enough? Will Roman realize how much of a loser he is and dump him? Virgil started to think more and more of these things, and soon, his face was wet with rain and tears.

He loved Roman so much. If he lost him, it would be like losing the world. Virgil didn't know if Roman felt that way too, but he hoped he did. He was constantly worried about this. About the way their relationship would go.

Virgil let out a quiet sob as more tears slipped past his cheeks.

He couldn't get a grip, his mind hopelessly wandering back and forth through dark and darker thoughts. Soon enough, panic encased him, and he was shaking slightly.

It wasn't a bad panic attack. Still, it hurt.

Soon after getting over the attack, he wiped his hand across his face, wiping the remaining tears. He hated that he was weak like this, all emotionally weak. He hated it, so much. Virgil wanted to be strong, if not for himself, for Roman.

Virgil felt the rain slick down his cheeks and onto the banister. He didn't stop tears from pouring down his face, still mixing with the raindrops.

He felt a sudden pair of arms wrap around him. "Dear, you're soaked. Come inside." Roman said, pulling Virgil up from his leaning position. "You'll get sick." Virgil sighed, realizing how hard it was raining now.

Virgil nodded, turning around to face Roman. "Virgil, dear, have you been crying?" Roman asked, cupping his lover's cheek with his hand. "N-No..." Virgil mumbled. "You have been, haven't you? Look, we'll talk about it later, Patton and Logan are having an argument with Thomas so we have time alone for about an hour or two." Roman rushed, swooping Virgil off his feet, holding him bridal style, and rushed him inside.

Virgil couldn't and didn't protest. He wrapped his arms around his neck, nuzzling into his shoulder. Soon enough, Virgil was changed into warm clothes, Roman's Steven Universe shirt and sweatpants, and the two were cuddled on the couch, drinking his tea.

They weren't even watching television or talking, they were simply cuddling each other, holding one another in each other's embraces.

Virgil nuzzled into Roman's chest, happy to be in the presence of his lover. He felt completely at peace, disregarding events that happened only five minutes ago. He took a sip of his tea, setting it on the coffee table.

"So, were you crying earlier?" Roman asked, breaking the comfortable silence. Virgil didn't even hesitate, he knew the question was coming. "Yeah..." He said, not moving from his position. "What made you upset?" Roman asked, pulling his boyfriend closer to him.

"I was just...I couldn't help but think about where this is going," Virgil paused for a moment, and bit his lip. "I mean, I know it's normal to worry about a relationship, but I just feel like I worry too much, even with the heightened anxiety."

Roman smiled sympathetically. "I know, worrying about a relationship is one of the prices you pay for the relationship. It's a hard one to pay, I understand, but you've nothing to worry about, princess." He said. "How do you know?" Virgil asked, looking at Roman.

"I don't." Roman said. "But I know if we both put in the effort, we can make it. I can promise you that." He gently grabbed Virgil's chin, lifted it slightly, and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He smiled into the kiss, wrapping his other arm around Virgil. Virgil slowly pulled away, looking off in a corner.

"Virgil, look at me." Roman said, cupping his cheek. "I love you, so much. I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world." He pressed a kiss to his cheek. "I promise you."
