Route 666

We were at a gas station, Dean was off to the side talking on the phone and Sam had a map spread out on the hood. Blue was sitting next to me in the backseat playing iSpy. "I spy something... Red," Blue announced after looking around for a moment. "Is it my Dorito bag?" He snapped his fingers, "Oh, you're too good at this," Blue complained. I grinned at him, "So, why don't you ever talk to me when Sam or Dean are around?" Blue questioned. I glanced at Sam and Dean, who were now having a conversation by the map, "Because we're hunters, I don't want them to make you go away or think I'm crazy." Blue nodded his head, "I would never go away. Well, unless you wanted me too," Dean took that moment to open his car door, "Come on, are you coming or not?" he yelled at Sam as he got in. Sam rolled his eyes and folded the map before getting in the car. "Oh and Chris?" Dean turned to look at me as Sam got in the car. "Since Sam's a nerd-" Sam cut him off, "Dude," Dean ignored him and kept going, "I got you a word search book for the road." Dean passed a plastic bag from the gas station to me, "Knock yourself out," Dean told me as he started the car. I grabbed the pen from in the bbag and opened to the first page, "Oh I love word searches!" Blue exclaimed as we started the first one.

Blue and I finished three word searches; Sam and Dean however, were arguing about where we were going. "By old friend you mean...?" Dean looked annoyed at Sam, as he'd been since we got in the car, "A friend that's not new," he kept looking at the road. "Oh yeah, thanks. So her name's Cassie huh? You never mentioned her..." Sam teased. "Didn't I?" Dean feigned confusion. Sam was staring at Dean with an expectant look. "Yeah, we went out," Dean admitted after a few seconds. Blue tapped the page we were on, "'Chameleon', I finally found it," Blue announced, I looked down at the paper where his finger was. I clicked the pen and drew a line through the word. "You mean you dated somebody? For more than one night," Sam sounded shocked as I scratched the word from the list," Dean sounded defensive. I found the word 'Ant', which went through 'Chameleon'. "Good eye," Blue commented as I scratched out the word. "And...?" Sam asked expectantly, Sam went on, "Look, it's terrible about her dad, but it kinda sounds like a standard car accident. I'm not seeing how it fits with what we do. Which by the way, how does she know what we do?" I glanced up to focus back on the conversation, but Blue tapped on the page again, "Jaguar." I looked down and drew another line through the word. "You told her. You told her, the secret! Our big family rule number one. We do what we do and we shut up about it. For a year and a half I do nothing but lie to Jessica, and-" Sam was angry, but Blue put his hands over my ears and suddenly I couldn't hear anything. I looked over at Blue, who was staring directly at Sam and Dean with a sad look. He didn't take his hands off of my ears for at least five minutes and by then, the two were silent. I would've thought that Blue hadn't given back my hearing, but I could hear the radio playing quietly.

The two were silent for almost two hours, what broke it was Dean wanting to drop me off somewhere. "Chris, I'm gonna get a motel room after we go to the publisher building in town, I want you to stay there," Dean informed, glancing at me in the rearview mirror. I nodded, I didn't really have a problem with this. Blue clapped his hands, I'd actually be able to talk to him whenever they left. I glanced out the window, we were pulling into a parking lot. That's probably why he mentioned it.

I held Dean's hand as we walked into the office, Blue had decided to wait for me in the car. It looked like three people were arguing, "Jimmy, you're too close to this. Those guys were friends of yours. Again, Cassie, I'm very sorry for your loss," one of them told the two sadly before walking off. The other man stalked off as well, leaving the woman. She sighed and turned around, probably to walk off as well, but froze when she saw us. Or more specifically, Dean. "Dean," she sounded shocked as she took a few steps closer. "Hey Cassie." Dean joined in the staring for a while before snapping out of it, clearing his throat, "This my brother Sam and my little sister Chris," Cassie seemed to just notice that Sam and I were there. She smiled at Sam for a couple seconds before going back to staring at Dean. "Sorry 'bout your dad," Dean told her. "Yeah. Me too," she sounded sad, but didn't break her staring of Dean. I took my hand out of Dean's, which seemed to snap him out of it, "So why don't you tell us what happened?" Dean asked, I went over to Sam, who was looking down at me, and raised my arms. He rolled his eyes, but picked me up anyway. Cassie looked around the room, "Let's talk about this somewhere private, do you still remember where I live?" Dean nodded his head, I could feel Sam silently scoff.

It didn't take long to get to her house, twenty minutes at most, but by the time we got there it was dark. "Ooh, this is pretty," Blue commented as we pulled up to the house, it was huge. Sam carried me inside. Cassie let us in and went into the kitchen before walking out with a tray of cups and a tea kettle, "My mothers in pretty bad shape. I've been staying with her. I wish she wouldn't go off by herself. She's been so nervous and frightened. She was worried about dad," Cassie told us as she set it down on a counter against the wall and started fixing a cup of tea. "Why?" Dean questioned. Cassie put the cup down and grabbed another, "He was scared. He was seeing things," she informed us. "Like what?" Dean questioned again. She stopped pouring tea and set both the kettle and the cup down, "He swore he saw an awful-looking black truck following him." Sam looked at her, "A truck. Who was the driver?" he asked. Cassie turned around with the cups of tea and handed them to Sam and Dean, she put mine on the table. "He didn't talk about a driver. Just the truck. He said it would appear and disappear. And, in the accident, Dad's car was dented, like it had been slammed into by something big," she told us as I grabbed the sleeve of Sam's jacket and gave it a little tug, "I have to go to the bathroom," I told him quietly when he glanced at me. "Where's the bathroom?" Sam asked, changing the topic temporarily. "It's upstairs on the left," Cassie told him, I got up and headed that way. I could feel them watching me go.

I took my time going up the stairs, I was ready to leave. I was sitting on the bathroom counter when a figure appeared in front of me, "Why so down?" it was Blue. I shrugged, "I don't want to be here," I told him. He frowned and walked closer, so that he was touching the counter, and hugged me. "They'll leave here soon and then we can play around the motel room. Sound fun?" Blue questioned. I nodded my head and hugged him back. We stayed like that for a couple minutes, "Do you want to head back down there before they look for you?" Blue asked. I nodded my head, "Might as well," I told him as I slid onto the floor. "I'll wait for you in the car," Blue said with a grin as I walked out of the bathroom. Sam was halfway up the stairs when I got to them, "Hey, we're about to go. You okay?" Sam asked, he continued up the stairs to stand beside me. I nodded, "I'm tired," I excused. He frowned and picked me up, heading back down the stairs where Dean and Cassie were standing by the door, staring. Again. Sam cleared his throat as he walked in, "Hey short stack," Dean greeted, "You guys ready?" he added after a second or two. I nodded, "Yeah, I think she's ready to go to bed," Sam informed as he carried me to the door. "Bye guys," Cassie said as we walked down her porch steps. Sam put me in the backseat, almost on top of Blue. Sam also grabbed my blanket from the floor and draped it ontop of me. I hadn't been tired before, but I was now. I was asleep before we got back to town.

I woke up the next day to Dean shaking me awake, "Hey, Sam and I are heading out. There was another accident," Dean told me. I groaned and rolled over. I could practically her him roll his eyes. "We'll be back in a couple hours, there's some food in the fridge if you get hungry," Dean added, his voice sounded farther away. I heard the motel door open and close before I felt a prodding in my side, "Chrisssss, wake uppp," Blue whined as he continued to poke me. I groaned, "Play with mee I'm bored," Blue complained again. I sat up and gave him a glare, "Yay! You're awake!" he exclaimed, rolling off the bed and onto his feet. "Let's watch TV and play or something," Blue suggested. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, "Dibs on braiding your hair!" Blue yelled as he ran into the bathroom. I had my toothbrush in my mouth when he picked up the hairbrush and started running it through my rat's nest. Blue tisked when I spat out the toothpaste, "I still don't understand how your hair gets so knotted up!" So did everyone else Blue, so did everyone else.

The boys came back an hour later and started changing into their business suits. So they were going undercover, I wondered what they were going as this time. "Who taught you to put your hair up like that?" Sam asked, he was looking at me through the mirrow. "TV," I answered quickly, Blue and I were sitting at the table. Blue had been teaching me how to play 'Go Fish' and 'Solitaire' when they'd come back. "What show?" Dean questioned, looking suspicious. I shrugged my shoulders and put a red eight on top of a black nine. "Who taught you how to play Solitaire?" Dean asked, this one I could easily lie with. "Becky," Sam nodded his head, he seemed to believe me. Dean, however, still looked suspicious, but didn't say anything. Sam switched the subject as he picked up his jacket, "So, Cassie, I'll say this for her, she's fearless." Dean focused back on adjusting his tie. "Mm-hmm," Dean hummed, obviously wanting to change this topic. Sam grinned in the mirror, looking at Dean, "Bet she kicked your ass a coupla times," Dean only glanced at him, I looked back down at my cards. "What's interesting is you guys never really look at each other at the same time. You look at her when she's not looking, she checks you out when you look away. It's just a...just an interesting observation in a....you know...observationally interesting way." Sam sounded smug. "You think we might have more pressing issues here?" Dean snapped, I put a red Jack on top of a black Queen. "Hey, if I'm hitting a nerve," Sam started, but Dean cut him off, "Let's go," I could hear Sam laughing at him as Dean left the room. "We'll be back in a bit, okay Chris?" Sam still sounded amused. "'Kay," was all I told him as I picked up another card.

"Who's Becky?" Blue asked, leaning on the table to look at my cards. "A friend of Sam's, I met her on a shapeshifter case. It's why I have this," I held up my hand, showing off my silver ring. Blue took my hand and looked at it, "That's a big ring," he noted. "Dean said he'll get it expanded as I get older so I can have the same ring," I told him as I twisted it on my finger. "Do you know what we should do?" Blue asked after a few moments. I looked up at him, "We should watch some TV while I get us some hot chocolate." Blue suggested, I liked his suggestion. Blue got out of his chair and picked me up, "And to the couch we go," he cheered as he put me on the couch. I couldn't help but laugh at him, causing him to smile as he handed me the remote, "You find something to watch and I'll go get the hot coco." he suggested, pointing at me with a huge grin before he disappeared. I turned on the TV and found, Harry Potter? It was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. It was just starting. I got up and ran over to the bed, dragging the blanket off of it to settle back on the couch. Blue reappeared and gave a small laugh when he saw me, "You little burrito," he teased, "Did you find a good movie?" he asked as he sat on the couch beside me, putting the two mugs onto the table. "It's Harry Potter," I told him excitedly as I curled up further into the blanket. Blue chuckled and wrapped an arm around my shoulders as we settled in to watch.

The boys showed up as Harry was going against Professor Quirrell, I barely took notice. "Find something good there short stack?" Dean asked as he loosened the tie around his neck. I didn't look away from the TV, "Leave her alone Dean, it's one of the movies for the books she's been reading." Sam dismissed as he went into the bathroom. "We're gonna go out to eat later, you wanna go?" Dean asked, I could feel him leaning against the back of the couch, his left hand was next to Blue's head, he'd fallen asleep a while back. I nodded my head, "After the movie," I told him shortly, still focusing on the scene before me.

We left forty-five minutes later, Sam and Dean had to change out of their 'monkey suits' first. We'd gone to a diner about five minutes away, Dean and I got burgers while Sam got a chicken fried steak. I stole a few bites of it, never having had it before. It was good. We'd stayed there for about an hour and a half before we went back to the motel. But when we got back, Dean left. To go 'question Cassie' some more he'd said. Sam had scoffed and rolled his eyes, but didn't say anything as he left. Blue was sulking on the couch, "You left me," he pouted when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. "You fell asleep during the movie," I retaliated as I wet my toothbrush. He folded his arms over his chest, "Still, you could've at least woken me up," he pouted again. I playfully rolled my eyes and brushed my teeth.

I couldn't sleep, it didn't feel right. Blue was laying on the couch and Sam was in the other bed fast asleep. Curse him. I sat up and looked at the door, Dean still wasn't back. I sighed and got up, practically tip-toeing to Sam's bed. I walked to the side Sam was facing, "Sammy," I whispered, giving his shoulder a small shake. "Sammy," I repeated. He gave a small groaning noise before opening his eyes, "Chris? What are you-?" he sounded groggy, which was understandable. "I can't sleep," I told him. He gave a small sigh as he scooted back and raised the blanket in front of him. I climbed onto the bed and curled up in a ball next to Sam, who was probably asleep by the time the blanket fell back down.

What woke me up, was Sam's phone ringing. Judging by his groan, it woke him up as well. He rolled over and grabbed his phone from the nightstand, "Hello?" he answered groggily. "Are you serious?" he asked, sounding much more awake and concerned. "Okay, we're on our way." Sam sat up and got out of bed. I heard him pushing buttons on his phone before he started talking again, "Hey, we need to get back to the highway there's been another accident. It's the mayor," was all he said before I heard him hang up again. I sat up and watched him grab his duffle and run into the bathroom, coming our ten minutes later, "We'll be back after we look at this scene and then we'll come pick you up." Sam promised as he all but ran out the door. I blinked slowly, Blue sat up from his place on the couch, "He sure is in a hurry all the time huh?" Blue commented. I nodded my head and yawned before getting up and going to the bathroom to take a shower, "I'll make breakfast," Blue called before I closed the door. I took the ponytail out of the braid and hopped into the shower.

Blue had somehow managed to get eggs and bacon for breakfast. Sam came back with Dean about two hours later. "Hey Chris-oh good, you're dressed," Sam cut himself off as he walked inside. "We're going to the office if you want to tag along, I did say we'd come back to get you." Sam added, Dean looked around the room and went to his duffle, disappearing into the bathroom. To change, I assumed, he was wearing the same clothes as yesterday. I shook my head, I didn't want to know anything about this case, and I knew that they were going to do research about it. That and I knew they weren't going to a library. "You sure?" Sam asked, I nodded. Sam shrugged, "Okay," was all he said. Dean walked out of the bathroom pulling on his jacket, "Okay, let's go." Sam headed to the door, Dean met him there. "Chris isn't coming?" he questioned, glancing at me. I was sitting on the couch with Blue. "No, I don't think she wants to go sit around and watch people write newspapers." Sam dismissed before walking out the door. Dean stared at me for a moment before following after him. I settled on the couch and turned on Teen Titans again.

They were back a few hours before dark, Dean had brought me some food from a diner. I was sitting at the table eating when Dean's phone rang. "Whoa, slow down, what do you-?" he trailed off. He hung up the phone and stood up, "We need to get to Cassie's house, she saw the truck." Dean said seriously, grabbing his keys. Sam got up and glanced at me, "We'll be back," he promised as he and Dean ran out the door. "Bye," I told the empty air, I wanted to give a sigh of disappointment, but I didn't really have a right to do that. Blue seemed to appear beside me, "Do you want more hot coco?" he questioned, hovering behind me. I nodded my head and sat at the table, Blue disappeared for a few minutes. I waited with my head resting on my arms, which I'd folded on the table. "I got you extra marshmallows," Blue stated as he set the mug in front of me. "I felt like this was an extra marshmallow scenario," he added as he sat across from me. I couldn't help but give a small smile at the crazy straw he'd put in the cup, it was blue. "Thanks Blue," I sat up and scooched the mug closer. Blue was smiling again, "That's what I'm here for."

Blue put me to bed at about eleven, the boys still weren't back so Blue laid with me. I was waken up the next morning by someone picking me up, "Chris, come on, let's get the hell outta here," I heard Dean say. I sat up with a confused noise, when did they get back? Dean set me down in front of the bathroom, "Sam and I'll pack everything, get ready," Dean told me, I closed the door behind me. Blue appeared behind me, "Dibs," he exclaimed, putting a hand on my head. I rolled my eyes and picked up my toothbrush, handing him my hairbrush.

Blue, Sam, and I were all waiting on Dean, who had decided to saw bye to Cassie before we left. Dean and Cassie were walking back towards the car. "My mother says to tell you thanks again," Cassie was saying as they walked closer. I sighed and laid down in the back seat, "This is a better goodbye than last time," she commented. Blue groaned and hit his head against the window. "Yeah well maybe this time it will be a little less permanent," Dean suggested slyly. "You know what? I'm a realist. I don't see much hope for us Dean," ouch, rejection. "Well I've seen stranger things happen. A hell of a lot stranger," I don't think anyone could argue with that. "Good bye Dean," Cassie told him, it sounded final. "I'll see ya Cassie....I will." Dean promised. A few seconds later, Dean got into the passenger seat, turning up the radio as we drove off.

There was silence for half an hour. "I like her," was what broke the silence. "Yeah," Dean continued to stare out the window. "You meet someone like her, doesn't it makes you wonder if it's worth it? Putting everything else on hold, doing what we do?" Sam wondered, that wasn't ominous. Dean looked over and stared at Sam for a moment before grabbing his sunglasses with a grin, "Why don't you wake me up when it's my turn to drive?" Dean asked as he slouched in his seat with a sigh. I watched Sam shake his head at Dean, probably holding back a scoff as he put his focus back on the road.
