Dead Man's Blood
I was munching on a piece of french toast while Sam and Dean did research for a new case. Dean folded his newspaper with a sigh, "Well dude. Not a decent lead in all of Nebraska. What've you got?" Sam glanced up from his laptop, "Well, I've been scanning Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota. Here. A woman in Iowa fell ten thousand feet from an airplane and survived," Sam said, giving Dean a glare as he tried to take a piece of my toast. "Sounds more like 'That's Incredible' than, uh, 'Twilight Zone'," Dean commented, frowning as I swatted his hand. "Yeah, dude, leave her food alone," Sam scolded. "Hey you know we could just keep heading east. New York. Upstate. We could drop by and see Sarah again. Huh?" I rolled my eyes, Dean had been on about that since we left. "Cool chick man, smokin'. You two seemed pretty friendly. What do you say?" Sam gave him the bitchface, Dean continued to look at him with a smirk. Sam rolled his eyes before caving, "Yeah, I dunno, maybe someday. But in the meantime we got a lot of work to do Dean, and you know that." Dean's smirk turned into a grin as he leaned back into his chair, "Yeah all right. What else you got?" he asked. Sam looked back at his computer, "Ahh, man in Colorado, local man named Daniel Elkins, was found mauled in his home," Sam read. Dean furrowed his eyebrows, "Elkins? I know that name." Sam glanced up, "Doesn't ring a bell," as Dean was repetitively muttering the name under his breath. Sam ignored him in favor of reading the website. "Sounds like the police don't know what to think. At first they said it was some sort of bear attack and now, they've found some signs of robbery," Sam concluded. Dean hummed in acknowledgment as he dug in Sam's laptop bag and took out Dad's journal, flipping through the pages for a bit. "There, check it out," Dean turned the book towards him, pointing at a name. "You think it's the same Elkins?" Sam questioned, Dean shrugged, "It's a Colorado area code." That was seemingly all it took for us to get in the car and head to Colorado.
We get there a bit after dark, Dean pulled into the parking lot of a motel and nodded his head towards the motel lobby, "Go get a room," he told Sam as he got out of the car. Sam made his way to the office while Dean moved to the back of the car to grab our duffles. Blue had been laid back reading, but when Dean got out he closed the book and helped me gather everything to bring into the motel room. Sam came back a few minutes later with a room key, "107," was all he said as he tossed it to Dean and grabbed his own bag. "C'mon Chris," Dean called as I got out of the car, holding my books with Sylvester perched on top. "I'm coming," I called as I chased after the two, who were already halfway across the parking lot. Dean opened the door, this room looked much better than the last, but it probably wouldn't be nearly as fun. Blue walked alongside me, making his way to the couch as Dean put the duffles on the floor near the door. I put my books on the coffee table with a relieved noise. "You know you could've just made a second trip," Sam told me, I could hear the grin in his voice as I flopped onto one of the beds, "Second trips are for the weak," was muffled into the bed. I felt someone pat my back, "Bedtime short stuff, Sam and I are gonna go to Elkin's place and see what the cops missed." I groaned and crawled up the bed to rest my head on a pillow. I felt Dean throw my blanket on top of me, "We'll be back by morning," Dean called as he and Sam walked out the door. I curled up under the blanket and drifted off. I woke up a few hours later to, "Sam, Dean, let's go." Who was that? I made a small groan as I sat up, "Go back to bed Chris," Dean muttered as he sat u[, rubbing his eyes. "What happened?" Sam asked, he was sitting up as well. "A couple called 911, found a body in the street. Cops got there everyone was missing. It's the vampires," the voice went on, I knew that voice... "Daddy?" was it not important to wake me up for these things? "Hey Chrissy," I heard Dad say as he walked over. "How do you know?" Sam asked, his tone was challenging. Why was he like this whenever Dad was around? Dad sighed as he pat my head and headed to the door, "Just follow me, ok?" directed towards Sam, who got up and put on his jacket. Dean groaned as he let his head fall back on the pillow, "We'll be back in a bit, just go back to sleep." Dean told me, pushing me back down on the bed lightly. I didn't give any protest.
I woke up whenever light from outside gleamed through the window and onto my face. Who left the curtain open? "Christinaaaaaaaa, come watch a movie with meee," well that answered that question... Blue was laying on the back of the couch, one arm dramatically covering his eyes as his wings grazed the floor. I rolled my eyes, but got up to watch the movie with him anyway, it was the second Jurassic Park.
The guys didn't come back until it was well after dark, which agitated me since all they left for me to eat was Spaghetti-o's. I hate Spaghetti-o's... I was pleased to see that Dean had gotten me food from McDonald's though. So I sat on the couch and dug in as Dad talked quietly with Sam and Dean outside the door. Blue and I had watched movies all day, some of them sucked, but we did find the third Jurassic Park and a couple Harry Potter movies... The guys walked back in as I finished my burger. "So what did you do all day?" Dad asked as Sam went to his laptop and Dean went to take a shower, they smelled bad. "Watched movies," I answered, eating a fry. "Which ones?" he asked as he sat down. It took me a second to remember all the titles, "I watched all of the Jurassic Parks, two Harry Potter movies, and Lord of the Rings," I told him, leaning back on the couch. "Were they any good?" I nodded my head, those were the ones I'd liked. There were a few moments of silence, "Hey Sammy, what time is it?" I already knew where this was going to go, "Uh, almost eleven," Sam answered, glancing up from the laptop at Dad. "Just what I thought," Dad muttered as he stood up. That was a second before I was no longer on the couch, "It's time for someone to go to bed." I groaned, "But Daddy," I whined, Blue did the same thing. "Don't give me that, it's bedtime and you know it," Dad told me as he flopped me onto the bed. I gave another groan, "It is three hours past your bedtime, go to bed," Dad told me, lightly scolding. I rolled onto my stomach as Dean walked out of the bathroom, which prompted Sam to get up and takeover the bathroom. Dean smirked, "Did someone get put to bed?" he teased. Dad looked at him, "You should go to bed too, we're headng out first thing," Dean's smirk faltered. I heard Sam laughing from the bathroom just before the shower turned on.
Dean woke me up the next day, "We're heading out," he told me, I groaned, it was six in the morning and I didn't want to be awake. Blue didn't either judging by the loud groan he gave. We both rolled over and went back to sleep, except Blue moved from the couch to the bed beside me. We didn't get up until it was at least ten, and the only reason I got up was because Blue got pancakes for me. I refused to eat another can of Spaghetti-o's... Unlike yesterday, Blue and I spent today reading books; so I got to finish Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and start on the Order of the Phoenix. I faintly wondered if phoenixes were real, probably not. Blue finished the Chamber of Secrets and started on the Prisoner of Azkaban. I was almost a fourth of the way through my book when the guys came back. I glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand, it was only two. Sam came in first followed by Dad, but Dean didn't come in. Dad asked my unanswered question, "He went to pick something up for me." Dad picked his journal off the table and started flipping through it, he did so for almost thirty minutes as Sam paced the room. "It shouldn't be taking this long. I should go help," Sam started making his way to the door, "Dean's got it," Dad assured him, looking up from the journal to watch Sam pace. I'd looked up from my book as well, "Sammy," Dad called, he stopped, "Yeah?" Sam looked at Dad, who closed the journal. "I don't think I ever told you this but...the day you were born, you know what I did?" I closed my book as well, this sounded like it was going to be interesting. "No," Sam looked confused. "I put a hundred bucks into a savings account for you. I did the same thing for your brother," Dad took a moment, expectantly staring at Sam who still looked confused, "It was a college fund. And every month I'd put in another hundred dollars, until... Anyway my point is, Sam, this is never the life that I wanted for you," Dad told him. Sam froze, "Then why'd you get so mad when I left?" Sam was confused again. Dad sighed and took a moment to respond, "You gotta understand something, after your mother passed all I saw was evil, everywhere. And all I cared about was keeping you boys alive. I wanted you...prepared, ready. Except somewhere along the line I...uh...I stopped being your father and I...I became your, your drill sergeant. So when you said that you wanted to go away to school, all I could think about, my only thought was, that you were gonna be alone. Vulnerable. Sammy, it just...it never occurred to me what you wanted. I just couldn't accept the fact that you and me--We're just different," Dad explained, which caused Sam to give a huff of a laugh. "What?" Dad sounded a bit offended; I put my book on the table and glanced at Blue, who was staring with interest. "We're not different. Not anymore. With what happened to Mom and Jess..." Sam stopped for a moment to give another huff of a laugh, "Well we probably have a lot more in common than just about anyone." That was probably more true, I was happy that Dad and Sam appeared to have settled their differences. Well, for the time being at least. "I guess you're right, son," Dad said with a smile, it was a sad smile though, Blue didn't like those. After a few moments, Sam asked, "Hey Dad? Whatever happened to that college fund?" Dad grinned, "Spent it on ammo," the two stared at each other for a few moments before the two started laughing. Dean chose that moment to walk in, "Whew. Man, some heavy security to protect a bunch of dead guys," he commented as he walked in. Dad and Sam stopped laughing, "Get it?" Dad asked. Dean fumbled in his pocket for a moment before taking out a paper bag, which had a jar full of what looked like blood. He handed it to Dad, who inspected it, "You know what to do," Dad told Dean as he set the jar onto the table. Dean disappeared back out the door as Sam sat in the third chair at the table, "So this is like poison to them?" he questioned, picking up the jar to look at it. I wrinkled my nose in distaste at it, which Dad noticed, "Chris, go take a shower." Sam and Dean glanced at me as I slid out of my chair and dragged my duffle into the bathroom. I heard Dad mutter, "She doesn't need to see stuff like this," to them before I closed the door.
When I got out of the bathroom, the guys were all crowded around the table, so I went to the couch and turned on the TV. Some cartoon was on, Lilo and Stitch. I hadn't seen it before, so I decided to watch it. Blue plopped onto the couch beside me, "Oh I love this movie!" After Lilo and Stitch had ended, Blue demanded we watch the second movie, Stitch: the movie. It was almost eight, the guys were putting everything into a duffle, "Chris," I heard Dad call, I turned over and looked at him from the back of the couch, "Bedtime." was all he said. Blue and I groaned, "Don't give me that, we're leaving first thing," Dad told me as he plucked me off the couch. "Doesn't mean I have to like it," I told him. He grinned, "Yep, but you have to do what your father says, and I say it's bedtime," he told me as he set me in bed. I crossed my arms over my chest, "Don't give me that, we're heading out to finish this," Dad told me, before adding, "Now go to sleep." I gave a small huff as my last complaint before I laid down, I didn't fall asleep until about five minutes after they left.
Dean, once again, was the one he woke me up. If I had a quarter for everytime he did that, I would be a very rich four-year-old. "Go get ready to go while we get everything packed," Dean ordered, I noticed that Dad wasn't here. Did he leave again? I only changed my clothes and brushed my teeth, Blue's french braids were helpful. I walked out of the bathroom to, "Yeah but we saved your ass," coming from Dean. "You're right," I heard Dad answer, he didn't leave! I was happy about that. "I am?" Dean sounded confused, Dad nodded, "It scares the hell out of me. You two are all I've got. But I guess we are stronger as a family. So...let's go after this damn thing, together." A huge grin spread across both Sam and Dean's faces, I was sure one was on mine too. "Yes sir," Sam and Dean said in unison. I grabbed my book from the table and walked up to Dad, "Can I ride with you?" Dad put me on his hip, "You two," Dad pointed at them with his free hand, "Are packing the car." I was sure they rolled their eyes as Dad walked out the room carrying me. I liked Dad's truck, it had better air conditioning than Dean's car did and it made me feel tall.Well, that and Dad let me sit in the front. Suck on that Sammy.
