Little Wendy Can't Get Comfy

The sun was down, the stars were up. It was time for Little Wendy's day to wind down and rest up. Relax, relax, relax. Breathe in, breathe out. She rested her head on the pillow. But, alas, sleep was a no-show.

"Oh no!" she said, "Why do my dreams evade me so? Is it the mattress or just the pillow?" She tossed and turned, tossed and turned, but just couldn't get comfortable. Minutes passed on the clock. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock. She knew tomorrow would be a struggle and she'd be in so much trouble if sleep didn't come on the double.

"Maybe I'll try the couch. I always fall asleep watching TV," she thought. So she got out of bed and moved to her sofa. Click click click. She set the TV to play static, now it was time to get comfy and hope sleep would come quick. But her TV clicked away, as she laid there wide awake, staring at the ceiling.

Then Little Wendy remembered she'd just bought a hammock! Maybe that would be better for her back? She walked out to her backyard and set the whole thing up. Who knows? Under the stars perhaps she'll have better luck. The cicadas were buzzing, the air was humming, and it was the perfect night sky. "Twinkle twinkle" went the stars above, and "twinkle twinkle" called back the fireflies below.

"This has to be it! Maybe I just needed fresh air," said Little Wendy. But even under the stars and coconut tree, sleep was just not meant to be. The hum and sparkle of twilight's dance yet still there were no Z's. Hopeless and desperate she thought, "Only a miracle will make sleep happen for me!"

Little Wendy was at her wit's end when across the street she saw a glowing marquee. "Wendy's Breakfast Deal: Get a Bacon or Sausage, Egg and Swiss Croissant and a small Potatoes for just 3 dollars? Yippee!"

"It's a sign!" she said. "Like, literally."

It was at that moment she realized what she needed wasn't just a comfortable bed, what she really needed was a comforting thought to shine. The thought of a warm breakfast waiting for her in the morning – one made with a fluffy, pillowy croissant, topped with a fresh cracked egg, sizzling bacon or savory sausage and paired with a side of hot and steamy potatoes with perfect seasoning.

Finally, her eyes were heavy and she sure was ready. Little Wendy was ready to close her eyes to get closer to her breakfast. She floated away into Dreamland on a cloud-like croissant giving her a warm hug.

"Ssssssssssssssssh go to bed. Good night little Wendy."

And before you know it, morning will come. Little Wendy will get her Sausage, Egg and Swiss Croissant and her side of potatoes, and turn her zzzzzzzzzzzzs to mmmmmmmmmmmmms.
