More Darke Magyk

"Absolutely not." Was the young Ghost king's first answer.

"Xanthos!" I pleaded. "Come on, it's not permanent, only for a few weeks or so."

Xanthos shook his head, his young white locks were thrown about carelessly. He looked like he had barely aged at all, with Ghost's long lifespan and all that. Now that I had grown up a bit, he looked young in my eyes, it was weird sensation.

He paused, biting his lip. "Look, it's like I don't want to, okay? It would help if you guys would tell me why you wanted to be temporary humans in the first place. I mean it's great to see you up and causing trouble again Zara, but honestly trouble is the last thing I need right now."

He stared at me. "I went missing for weeks on end without a single word, only to be seen fighting on Tenebris' side, it's a wonder I wasn't impeached, although I don't think our sucky laws allow that. My point is I have responsibilities and I can't get involved. I'm still trying to win the trust of my people, you of all creatures should understand this Zara."

I frowned. "I know."

"I'm Jaysen by the way, I don't know if we've ever been introduced." Jay added.

Xanthos paused, and let out a genuine grin. "Pleasure."

"I'm also pretty sure we don't know anyone else who can sneak us into the human world besides you." He replied, continuing to slide our point across.

Xanthos sighed. "I don't know what to tell you, okay? I'm not even sure if I would be able to so it. Ever since the Battle of Dragonfly my Magyks been really weak."

Jay opened his mouth to try and argue a bit more, bit I rested a wing on his shoulder to silence him.

"No, it's all right. We can find another way. Sorry we can't tell you, it's kind of confidential. If this works you'll be one of the first people to know." I explained, dipping my head in goodbye.

Xanthos gave me a sympathetic grin. "I'm sorry too. I hope whatever you two are getting up too is extremely dangerous, otherwise I would be disappointed."

I laughed dryly. If only he knew.

"Oh and Zara? It was really nice seeing you again. It get's really lonely up here." Xanthos sighed. "I hope you can come back soon."

"We do too." I agreed.

That was that, we weren't getting any help from the most magykcally extensive creature we knew.

"Who else do you know who has that kind of magyk?" Jay asked, and we padded quietly through the earthen tunnels of Ghost Mountain.

"I dunno, I don't think bird magic is all that strong. Glamora knows whatever happened to Scrylla's Queendom. I don't think The Four have the ability to transform things. Xanthos was our only chance." I realized, my heart sinking lower and lower.

I think I have a solution. Zach spoke up. I opened my mouth to tell Jay what he was saying when Zach interrupted me.

Don't tell Jay, I don't want to get his hopes up. If my idea works, you'll know. Trust me.

I frowned internally and wondered what that meant. My brother can sure be cryptic sometimes, or maybe that was just dumb masculinity talking. The flight back to The Hill was long and mostly silent as the two of us pondered what to do next. I already had most of the items that were achievable in Coniurantum, save for a few weird non-magykal ones that I figured we could probably pick up in the human world as well.

The only problem was, it would be a lot easier if we could actually be human while we meandered around within their ranks. I'd already picked form our first adventure that humans kinda...freaked out upon seeing an Ice-claw.

"Do you think the Ancients could help?" I asked, stretched out upon one of the rocks in the Archive.

"Probably not, we're not exactly one best terms with them." Jay sighed.

"What are you guys doing?" Jelu asked. "You've been out a lot lately, anything fun?"

"Fun yes." Jay hummed. "Not for your ears.

Jelu's ears flicked backwards as he comprehended what that might mean. "Okay...?"

"No seriously we're having a private chat, come back in a few minutes."

He looked slightly miffed but walked off all the same.

I zoned off as I watched Jelu throw us one last confused stare. I wondered why I didn't see him that often. I think he was practicing with Mordecai, strengthening his control of his Magyk or something. I saw him a lot more now that I actually made the effort to get up in the morning. The rest of the Four? I don't know. Feurige was spending a lot of time with the Ignis pack and his girlfriend. I don't where the other two went though, we hadn't been in touch for a long time. The thought made me feel old and drowsy, I yawned gently.

Jay's ears flicked back beside me. "Why don't you go take a nap? I'll keep looking for a solution, you rest."

That didn't sound like a bad idea. I said goodbye and padded off towards my room. Jay continued to search however.

You might not think a blind claw would know a library very well. You would be right. Jay hadn't the slightest clue how to get around, in fact, he didn't find scrolls all that useful. Mostly he just came here to think, because despite it's blatant uselessness to him, it was quiet. There was nothing more annoying to a blind claw like himself than a noisy room.

Jelu must have been watching the two of them because as soon as Zara walked away he popped up again.

    "What're you doing?" He asked.

"Well, I was looking for some quiet, but now that you're here I think I can use you."

    "Anytime. What do you need?"

    "You're looking into being a Scribe-claw right?"

    "Yep!"

Jay could hear him grinning. "Can I trust you with some top secret questions? You can't tell anyone."

    "Of course, brother's honor."

"Is there a section on forbidden magyk?" Jay figured that would be the obviously place to start.

"...yes." He answered hesitantly. "Follow me."

After a few winding twist and turns in which Jay became completely lost, he was directing Jelu as the claw ruffling through various scrolls. Jay could tell this was the right place, he could smell the scent of old rotting paper.

"Do I even want to know why the two of you want a transformation spell?" Jelu asked, sounding disgusted by all his theories.

"Nope." Jay answered simply, grinning devilishly as he left his brother to fill in the blanks. "It's for a good cause, hopefully. Something that'll make the Hill a lot happier."

There was a slight ruffling sound and Jay got the impression Jelu was shrugging. "Whatever bro, honestly I don't think I want to know."

Jay felt a sudden breeze ruffle his feathers and it occurred to him that it was slightly odd there might be breezes in an indoor Archive.

"Be right back, if I don't came back in a bit it means I'm lost, send help."

Jelu's voice strained with slight worry. "Okay? Hurry back."

Jay followed the draft of cool air, his whiskers pushed forward and mouth slightly open. He didn't know exactly why he had decided to follow said breeze, but something was tugging at him. Usually when you're a prophet and you feel a tug, it's best to listen.

He sensed he had walked into an open room, the draft was stronger, he could feel heat on his fur, meaning there was an open window of sorts somewhere and the afternoon sun was shining through. Something was off, something about the space made him uneasy and his fur prickled uncomfortably. He yanked his head back as his face suddenly bumped into something.

Feels like a shelf of some sort. He dully noted, feeling it up softly.

Jay became aware of an acute, high pitched humming. His sensitive ears picked up on it almost immediately. He leaned his heads towards it, call him crazy but it felt like it was coming from a scroll of this weird scrollshelf. Scratch that, he lived in a giant mound of dirt with a bunch of anthropomorphic, winged, magykal, cats. A humming scroll should be the least of his worries. In fact, maybe he should pay attention to it.

His nose touched the end of a scroll and the humming stopped. Jay took this as some supernatural cue and pulled it off the shelf with his teeth. Now to find someone who could read.
