[8] Conquering Coffee with Tea

The streets were basked with the hot, blazing rays of the sun. It was temptingly hot, as the people sought to comfort the heat by drinking chilled beverages or furiously fanning themselves. Some scurried away into air-conditioned stores and restaurants to escape this oven-like atmosphere, and with no doubt, you and Levi were one of them too.

''Its so hot, Levi..'' You whined in complain, wiping the sweat off your forehead with your arms. You were sure that it was approaching winter already, but the climate seemed to be the exact opposite. Climate change, perhaps?

''Stop complaining or we're going home'' Levi stated, not giving a care about your sweaty-waterfall form. Although beads of sweat were visible on his forehead, and the same goes to his stained clothing, he didn't seemed to mind at all.

You pouted slightly, continuing to walk beside the male and decided to pop a question for him ''I'm pretty sure it was cooler when we're at the mall, how does the weather change so quickly?''

''Because the Earth itself decides to fuck things up for you,'' He replies, looking to your [e/c] eyes while his glinted charcoal ''Happy? Now keep quiet..''

You rolled your eyes over that comment, before continuing ''Well, its not only for me. Look around you, there are people who's literally in the same boat as us.'' With arms crossed, you looked back to him ''They're all hot..''

''Excuse me, us?'' He raised an eyebrow

''Yes, us. Don't deny the fact that you're not hot ..'' You calmly said, a small grin visible on your face. The fact that you can use his 'sweaty appearance' against him was really victorious, for now.

The male firstly widened his eyes, before a light shade of pink began tinting his cheeks. He then looked away, closing his eyes while doing so ''W-Whatever, let's go..'' With that, he quickly walked off.

Though, he did misinterpret what you said..

You didn't really realize that, since you were too busy fanning yourself from the heat and keeping up with Levi. Both of you walked for a moment, before stopping in front of a certain shop. Levi was the one who suggested the idea of getting something to eat, since he was the one choosing, this particular shop must have suited his tastes.

Including cleanliness, of course.

He looked up to the sign for a moment, before stepping forward. The glass doors immediately slid open, followed by a distinctive 'welcome' sound as greeted by the workers. The cold breeze of the air-conditioner blasted in your face, causing a chilling sensation down for spine. You were more than happy to finally find somewhere that was cool.

''Come on, move it..'' Levi ushered, poking your arm as you were previously drowning in the cool breeze. He began walking to the far end of the shop, with you trailing behind him like a lost puppy. As you walked, your eyes began scanning the area around you

And lets say, you were quite surprised.

At first glance from the outside, it seemed like a normal café, which is nothing out of the ordinary. There weren't fancy LED lights that hung from the glass, nor were there eye-catching bombastic fonts that you could probably see from miles away.

It was just, normal.

Levi turned into a small, secluded corner of the café, where there was a divider separating this area between the other. He took a seat, not bothering to pull out the chair for you although he works in a butler cafe. You lazily yanked the chair out with your feet, before plopping onto it like a tired little children would.

The aroma of coffee was probably the most significant feature of this café, much more than the simple decoration of course. You found it relaxing, inhaling the sweet scent as it calmed your nerves. You closed your eyes for a moment, before a voice broke you off your thoughts

''I  come here sometimes after work..'' The male says, sitting upright ''They make the most impressive tea I have ever tasted, but I highly doubt a brat like you can taste such a wonderful masterpiece.'' He scoffs slightly, his metallic grey eyes seeming to be intimidating you.

''Oh yeah?'' You replied with a fake grin ''We'll see about that Corporal, after all..'' You paused for a moment, your [e/c] eyes staring back to his ''You'll never know if you never try.''

''Can I take your order?'' Suddenly, a waitress popped up out of nowhere, nearly scaring the life out of you. Levi on the other hand, didn't really seem fazed by her appearance.

''Black tea, '' Levi replies, crossing his arms while looking to you ''What about you?'' He raises an eyebrow, seeming to be taunting you.

''Black coffee, no sugar or cream, anything'' You said, both your gazes locked onto each other's determinedly. If this man wasn't going down with a fight, well. You'll be happy to oblige.

''Oh yeah, and this waffle seems nice. I'll take one.''

The waitress then sheepishly excused herself from the both of you, probably because she felt the immense dark aura rising from both of you. It continued for a moment, before Levi broke his gaze off and looked elsewhere, leaving you staring at him.

Honestly, you haven't paid attention to Levi quite much now. He's been busy working and you were off taking care of your studies. If exams weren't in a week, you probably won't be here having a coffee break with Levi, much less worry about your revisions and so on.

Well, you can always blame that on Hikaru due to him and his girlfriend issues.

''Umm.. Here are your orders?'' Two cups were then placed onto the table, supported by saucers that had matching prints along with the cups. The black liquid wobbled along with the shaky hand of the waiter's, as he was clearly trying his best not to flip both of those beverages. After it was set down, your waffle was also seen beside it. Think of it as a token to your sweet tooth, or a remedy if the coffee is too intense.

''Thank you..'' You muttered to the waiter, like it was your last words before your tongue tasted like coffee for several weeks, or months. He nodded his head lightly, his blonde hair, which you presumed was styled by placing a bowl on his head and shaving off the edges, swayed slightly to his movements. ''You're welcome, I hope you enjoy the coffee miss..'' He then answers, blinking his blue eyes before walking away.

You stared at his disappearing figure, as you felt Levi's intense gaze on you. You were sure that Levi knew you were utterly afraid of this challenge, because you always complain about bitter things, courtesy to the bitter gourd of course.

He calmly takes a long, slow sip from his cup, holding his teacup in a weird way, away from the handle. ''I've only ordered one cup this time, don't say I didn't go easy on you [name]..''

You gulped, reaching out for the cup of coffee right in front of you ''Only a fool would say that, ahem..'' You coughed slightly, before bringing the cup closer to your lips. Your nose inhaled the bitter scent of the liquid, as natural reflexes kicked in and you closed your eyes.

It already smells bitter..

''What, does the coffee smell like shit that you don't dare to taste it?'' Levi mocks again, coolly drinking his tea while smirking at your form. Half of you wanted to throw the cup of coffee now at his face, but half of you didn't want to, because you'll face intense hours of cleaning if you did that. Typical Levi, heh.

''I lost my appetite already, thanks to you..'' You then said, setting the cup down onto the table. You then looked to your waffle, which was baked golden and drizzled with honey and topped with various berries. It temporarily put your mind off your thoughts, feeling your mouth water because of it.

Just as you were about to pick up a fork and stab it into the waffle, the plate moved. You unknowingly stabbed your fork into the table, confused for a moment, before looking up to see Levi staring at you, his delicate fingers tapping on the side of the plate where your scrumptious dessert was located.

''What was that for?'' It came out in a tone hinted with anger and curiosity. Levi kept quiet for a moment, before continuing ''You're not touching this until you drink your coffee..''

''Or else what?'' You then taunted, looking back to him.

''Or else,'' The male picked up the fork, and a knife which appeared out of nowhere. Both the utensils were then seen slicing across your precious waffle, cutting it in half. He then lifted up a small portion of it, where honey was practically dripping off it, ''This.. would happen..'' After that, he placed the bite of scrumptiousness into his mouth, devouring it right before your very own eyes.

''I swear if you take another bite I will kill you..'' You threatened, looking to Levi who was chewing oh-so leisurely in front of you. He smirks slightly, taking up another piece of waffle onto his fork ''Like this?'' With a little wave, it was then seen disappearing into this oral cavity.

''Levi you-''

The male took another bite

''Sto-

Another bite.

''Fine!'' You almost yelled, slamming your hands onto the table, causing the plates and cups to move a little due to the sudden force. You lifted the cup of coffee with your hand, staring at the black liquid that showed your mere reflection. Your face resembled someone who was terrified, yet determined at the same time. Honestly, you looked very funny.

You took in a deep breath, before your lips came in contact with the cup, and soon gulping down all the contents in it. Your instincts told you to drink it all down at once, because it would taste utterly bitter and unpleasant.

But your body reacted otherwise, you stopped gulping for a moment, feeling the liquid inside of your mouth. It actually tasted sweet at first, but as soon as you gulped it down, the aftertaste was that it left a bitter mess inside.

You then started coughing due to the bitterness left inside your mouth, your arms flailed around, seeming to be searching for something. Water— you needed water to dunk all the flavour down, and hopefully it'll be long forgotten.

''Hey, you alright?'' Levi questioned, looking to you coughing wildly in front of him. Between coughs, you managed ''D-Do I even look like I'm a-alright?'' It was meant to be sarcastic, but you and your coughing made it seem otherwise.

''Here, drink this..'' Levi then lifted up his cup of black tea, offering it to you ''It won't taste that bad, just one sip and you'll be fine..'' He explains, holding the cup in front of you.

''N-No! You're probably t-trying to make me cough harder!'' Your throat was bubbling up with a scratchy feeling, resulting in your state now. You rejecting arms had hit Levi's while you tried to push his cup away, causing the contents to spill out a little onto his sleeve.

''You..'' He stared at the stain on his sleeve, then back to you who was coughing furiously. It started attracting attention of other customers now, as you heard murmurs and sudden silence in the area. But still, both of you were sitting in a divided corner, which makes the situation more worse.

''Oh fuck this..'' Levi then says, taking a sip of his tea. He then placed it onto the table and stood up, pulling onto your arms causing you to jerk forward to him. Before you knew it, he pressed onto your cheeks and connected your lips with his.

You widened your eyes, trying to struggle away from his grip as your cheeks began to flush red. 'What the hell is this guy doing!' Levi's grip was far more stronger than yours, as he held both your arms with ease in mid-air. Being clouded in thoughts, you didn't notice the tea flowing into your mouth, which eased the irritation cause by the black coffee earlier.

When you returned to your senses, the itchiness you had in your throat was gone.

However, Levi didn't stop. His lips were still locked onto yours, like a dog refusing to leave his owner. You felt an odd sensation in your stomach, like butterflies were in there. A typical cliche as seen in romance novels, but you didn't get to feel it.

Until now.

Levi released your arms, continuing to nibble onto your bottom lip. You weren't sure how to react, since it was your first time being kissed, heck! It was your first! Although you knew this shouldn't be happening, because both of you were in public, and such actions will simply trigger your brother's 'protective onii-chan' mode.

Seeing that you didn't react at all, Levi removed his lips from yours, but still inches away from touching. You could feel his hot breath tingling on your lips, before he spoke in a seductive manner ''You suck, but practice makes perfect.''

You were now a blushing mess, [e/c] eyes darting around uncomfortably, clearly avoiding Levi's gaze. His lips tilted upwards for a moment, before he sat back onto this chair, taking another sip out of his tea while watching you fidget like a kindergarten kid .

While your brain fought to process all the information of the events that just happened, you couldn't help to recall how Levi's lips felt against you. His touch, his warmth, his sweet scent of cologne mixed with sweat though it doesn't reek, and how his lips tasted like sweet even though he drank black tea. It was a mystery.

After a few moments, you managed to regain your composure. You sat back onto your chair and coughed a little. Levi raised an eyebrow at you, holding his teacup elegantly with his hand. You then stood up, your [h/c] hair swaying with your movements ''I'm going to the washroom..''

With that, you walked off to the washroom, your [f/c] flats clicking against the tiles of the floor. You took the chance to wash your face, trying to refresh yourself and your mind about everything. Once you were done, you walked out only to see Levi already standing at the cashier paying, your bag hanging off his arms.

''Uhh..'' You stuttered a little when you arrived next to Levi. He only stole a glance at you, before returning your bag to its rightful owner and waited for his payment. The cashier was still the blonde boy from earlier, which you presumed his head was, once again styled with a bowl. You searched for his name tag out of curiosity, only to find the words 'Armin' imprinted on it.

''Thank you, here's your change'' Armin says, placing the receipt and the change on the counter. Levi picks them up, not bothering to read them and casually stuffs them somewhere. ''Let's go, [name] '' He says, before walking out from the cafe, with you beside him now.

--

''So you've met her?''

''Yup, no mistake. I heard him calling her by her name''

''Really, does it spell exactly [name]?''

''Yes Eren, it does. Whats so special about her anyway?''

''Its a long story, perhaps I'll tell you the next time you treat me something, heh..''

''What are you both doing? Get back to studying!''

--

''Um, Levi..''

''I feel like I want to vomit..''

Bless me for managing to write this in 3 hours

I've never done so much research for one chapter honestly, it was worth it when looking at the word count ; w ;

Still, this is one of the best chapters I have ever had fun in writing. I did research, ask friends about opinions and figure out funny plots.

Anyways, how did you guys find this chapter? Was it detailed enough? Was it too fluff or too boring? Do tell, I want to improve & work on it!

I'll try to schedule an update next week, not sure. I have the next chapter's plot in mind but I'm still gathering them all up and putting them together~

And I'm actually quite proud that there is finally some 'action' in this chapter. I know I take things slow, but because I need a stable foundation before I stack things on top of it, yo.

It is essential for quality reading //slaps self

Thats for it for this chapter! Stay tuned~
