Lake laugai

"We can take the train out to the wall but then we'll have to walk," Sokka set the map they had in his satchel while the five of them made their way back to the house they stayed at to pack, they had a long way to travel to find appa at whale tail island.

"Don't worry on the way back we'll be flying," Aang said optimistically.

"We're finally leaving ba sing se, worst city ever!" Toph threw her hands up excitedly.

"Jet!"

Katara looked over her shoulder confused but saw smellerbee and long shot running towards them.

"I thought you said you didn't have your hang anymore?" Katara frowned. Of course he lied.

"I don't," Jet turned just as surprised when smellerbee crashed against him in a hug.

"We were so worried! How did you get away from the dai lee?" Smeller bee asked holding his arms tightly.

"The dai lee?!" Katara gasped.

"I don't know what she's talking about," Jet backed away not understanding

"He got arrested by the dai lee a couple weeks ago, we saw them drag him away," smeller bee explained frantically.

"Why would I be arrested? I've been living peacefully in the city," Jet took another step back.

"This doesn't make any sense, they're both telling the truth," Toph touched the ground between where smellerbee and Jet stood.

"That's impossible," Aang stood next to her.

"No it's not, Toph can't tell who's lying because they both think they're telling the truth, jets been brainwashed," Sokka motioned to him and Jet was in disbelief.

"That's crazy!" Jet raised his voice.

"Jet, can you remember anything since you came here and when you lost touch with them?" Katara asked.

"I-I-" he couldn't. There was a blank in his mind from what has happened in the city. He doesn't remember even coming to the city...

"We should go somewhere more private," Sokka nodded.

"Follow us," smeller bee agreed.

-

They went to the small house smeller bee and longshot stayed in as the sun went down and they closed all the windows and doors to make sure no one could see or hear them.

"The dai lee must've sent him to mislead us, that janitor could've been part of the plot too," Katara guessed as Jet sat in front of them all, panicking.

"I bet they have appa here in the city," Aang nodded. "Maybe he's in the same place where they took Jet? Where did they take you?"

"No where, I-I don't know what your talking about," Jet insisted, he looked just as afraid.

"We need to find a way to jog his real memories," Aang looked at the others.

"Maybe Katara could kiss him, that should bring something back," Sokka teased his sister.

"Maybe you should kiss him Sokka," she hissed back.

"Hey just an idea," he cackled a little.

"A bad one," Aang mumbled.

"Try thinking of something from your past that triggers your emotions?" Toph offered next.

"The fire nation, remember what they did to your family," smeller bee brought up.

"Close your eyes to try remembering," Katara agreed.

Jet did so but he didn't keep his eyes closed for long. He looked disturbed by the memories. Shaking his head and clasped his hands together, bouncing his leg anxiously.

"No I can't," Jet whispered. He didn't want to hear their screams. See the murderers faces while his family died in the flames.

"It's to painful," he covered his face.

"Maybe this will help," Katara sighed and bended water from her pouch and moved behind Jet to help with the pain.

"Try to remember," she whispered as he closed his eyes again.

This time he remembered it all. The lake. The cells. The dai lee. Long feng.

"They took me to the headquarters under the water, like a lake," Jet looked up.

"Wait remember what judee said? That she went on vacation to lake laugai?" Sokka snapped his fingers remembering.

"That's it, lake laugai," Jet gasped at the name.

-

They traveled over night and got to the lake by morning but there was nothing there, it seemed quiet and nowhere to take a vacation.

"Where is this secret headquarters?" Sokka asked.

"Under the water I think?" Jet rubbed his head.

"There's a tunnel right there near the shore," Toph pointed to the side and went to walk to it.

They followed her and she bended the earth tunnel to above the water, there was a circle on the top at the end but when they moved it to the side it revealed a tunnel with a ladder, going under the lake.

"So who's going first?" Sokka asked not wanting to go. It was a long long long way down.

"We can't wait all day," Katara tsked going first down the ladder.

-

There was crystals that lit the catacombs under the lake dimly while it was almost silent in the tunnel besides the soft dripping sound of water sneaking in. Toph could feel where the dai lee agents were and took the lead to make sure the coast was clear.

"It's starting to come back to me," Jet whispered with Katara behind him.

They peaked past a few cell rooms to see if there was any signs of appa but they passed one of a man speaking in front of dozens of women in the same uniform and same hair, looking all very similar themselves.

"I'm judee, welcome to ba sing se," the man said. The dozen of women repeated it back.

Sokka shivered at the 'class' and they all kept walking.

"I think there might be a cell big enough to hold appa up ahead," Jet told them as he kept his eyes ahead.

"Right up here I think," he sped up a little to a stone door and they all caught up.

Katara heard something behind her and looked sharply to see if the dai lee found them. It sounded like foot steps.

"Hold on," Katara breathed as she backed up to see down another tunnel. She could hear soft footsteps that almost were the same sound as the drops of water that echoed the air.

No one heard her and notice her slowly fading from the group to make sure they weren't being followed.

"Through the door," Jet motioned and opened it leading to a large room that almost felt like a deeper cave with high ceilings. It was possible appa could've been here. It was huge.

They walked in looking to see if there was other doors that appa could be in. But the door slammed close behind them.

Looking up they all gasped horrified seeing dai lee against hanging off of chains and hooks around the top of the cave.

"That's fucking creepy," Sokka gulped, only to see long feng and more dai lee waiting across the floor from them.

"You have made yourselves enemies of the state," long feng glared at the teenagers. Everyone got out their weapons. No one was going down without a fight.

-

A door slid open and a fearful growl from the flying bison echoed.

"Expecting someone else?" Zuko looked at the bison calmly wearing all black as well as a good covering his head.

Appa roared a little backing away in a fearful way almost but his chains stopped him. Zuko took out his dao blades walking closer. The avatars bison.

He actually found the avatars bison in a day while those idiots were looking for weeks.

The bison looked different. It's body language wasn't as kind and welcoming. It's fur was dirty and there was a new scar on its nose.

"Have You been here the whole time?" Zuko narrowed his eyes at the beast.

Appa snapped his jaws at the soldier in black and stomped his feet at him to threaten any way he could. Zuko gripped his swords tightly, not moving from the frightened beast.

"What to do?" He looked at the chains, they were to thick.

Zuko heard someone close the door behind him and immediately took a fighting stand while spinning to the intruder.

"What are You doing?" Katara whispered.
