Helpless
"Good morning, look who's still up," Sokka waved happily in the morning when Aang and Katara walked out on the deck to the tribe.
"How you feeling buddy?" He beamed brightly as everyone was eating breakfast.
"Just sore," Aang smiled back kindly and looked at Zuko curiously. He was avoiding him now. What was it again? There was something Azula said that he couldn't quite remember over the sound of his own adrenaline at the time.
"Hey let's sit and explain everything now that you've had some time," Sokka pulled him over and the teenagers all sat around sitting on the floor or on crates while Jet stood next to Sokka who sat on a crate.
"Am I missing something? Jets here and zukos here, I thought they'd go their own ways, and they don't exactly look like they're friends now," Aang cringed at the tension between the two. Their aura was aggressive.
"Youre not missing anything, jets been a little bully to sparky for some time," Toph yawned casually and Aang frowned at that.
"A bully are You kidding me?" Jet scoffed at her.
"You called Zuko names last night again," Sokka slurped some noodles and Katara looked at Jet with a sharp glare that could kill.
"Jet grow the hell up!" Katara snapped immediately making Aang flinch.
"Little fights are pathetic, it's fine," Zuko ate his breakfast but Katara kicked at him.
"At least You got your damn dog on a leash now," Jet mumbled under his breath but they all still heard.
"Go away this doesn't concern You! I swear to La that I'll throw you over this ship!" She raised her voice but Zuko glared at her to stop when Hakoda came over to see what was going on.
"Everything okay?" Hakoda asked keeping an eye on Jet.
"We're fine dad," Katara mumbled glaring.
"Focus on catching him up on the last few weeks, leave it," Zuko bit out annoyed and she huffed a little.
Sokka spent some time explaining the fall of the earth kingdom, where the earth king went, how they got the ship and how they joined together with the water tribe again. It was a lot to take in for being in a coma for three weeks, Aang just ate his breakfast and listened.
"So what now?" Aang asked after it all.
"We've been working on a modified version of the invasion plan," Hakoda told him with a warm smile.
"Sokkas invasion plan," his daughter corrected.
"Yes, sokkas plan," he looked at her as she ate her breakfast next to Aang.
"We won't be able to mount a massive invasion plan without the kings armies, but the solar eclipse will still leave the fire nation vulnerable," Hakoda continued.
Aang caught the glare Jet sent Zuko at the idea of the eclipse. Zuko slurped his noodles.
"So we're planning a smaller invasion, just a ragtag team of our friends and Allie's from around the earth kingdom, jets even going to bring some freedom fighters," Sokka explained holding a map.
"And the best part is the eclipse isn't even our biggest advantage, we have a secret... it's You," he said confidently.
"Me?" Aang scrunched his nose.
"Yep! The whole world thinks your dead, isn't that great!" Sokka threw his hands up excited.
Aang looked mortified.
"How is that good news?! That's terrible!" Aang yelled again.
"I knew you shouldn't have brought it up," Toph leaned against the crate next to Zuko.
"I warned him," he agreed.
"No no no it's great, it means the fire nation won't be hunting us anymore," Sokka told Aang quickly but the avatar was still freaking out.
"And even better they won't be expecting you on the day of black sun," he continued but Aang was starting to shake.
"No no no no you have no idea, this is so messed up," Aang gripped his hair.
They were all interrupted by a fog horn going off meaning another fire nation ship was approaching and would stop by them.
"I'll handle this, the avatar is back," Aang grabbed his glider but gasped in pain.
"Aang wait they don't know we're not fire nation," Katara stopped him.
"Oi they're gonna board!" Zuko barked to the warriors so they could prepare.
"Everyone just stay calm, bato and I will handle it, Zuko your with us," Hakoda told them as he and bato put on helmets but Zuko put on the one that would cover his face.
"Hide here," Katara guided Aang to the stairs to duck under in while everyone got in position, covering appa and standing guard.
"I hate not doing anything," Aang grumbled as he, Katara and Toph stayed down low with momo.
"Hopefully you won't need too," Toph urged.
The two ships went side by side and a bridge was dropped from one onto the imposter ship, the captain and two other soldiers walked across while Zuko and bato stood behind Hakoda.
"Commander why are You off course?" The captain immediately asked as they bowed quickly in greeting.
"All western fleet ships are suppose to be moving toward ba sing se to support the occupation," the captain looked at them confused.
"Actually we're from the eastern fleet, we have orders to deliver some cargo," Hakoda came up with the lie fast.
"Eastern fleet? Ah well it was nice of admiral Chan to let us know he's sending one of our ships our way," the captain scoffed sarcastically, irritated that he wasn't updated on the ships.
"I'm sure admiral Chan meant no disrespect sir," Zuko cut in knowing how fragile the egos of the high ranks were.
"I mean how hard is it to write a quick note and send a messenger hawk?" He waved them off.
"We'll make sure to send two hawks next time, sir," bato agreed.
They walked away to part on the journey, feeling lucky to get away with the lies as the other men whispered to each other. Zuko watched them carefully, he could hear them talking to each other in a soft mumble, he heard shuffling where Aang, Katara and Toph were.
The captain looked back at them once more.
"They know!" Toph bolted up and slammed her hand into the metal flooring making a trail where it crumpled and broke off the bridge between the ships. Making the captain and two soldiers fall into the water when the bridge fell.
"Sink it!" Zuko called to Sokka as he punched a flame onto the rock in the catapult, Sokka aimed and cut the rope of the flaming bolder so it hit directly into the other ship.
"Bulls eye!" Sokka cheered.
Katara ran to the edge of the ship where the bridge was broken off to bend the water up into a wave before shoving it into the enemy's ship to create some distance. Almost making the ship fall. They used the time they had to start sailing away.
"Load another Toph!" Sokka called back and she bended another bolder into the catapult before Jet threw oil over it for Zuko to light.
"Can you aim from this far?" Zuko asked as Sokka waited for the right moment.
"They sure can! Look out!" Jet pointed as flaming boulders were flying their way.
"Launch!"
Sokka launched the next one and it missed instead. He noticed Aang was having troubles holding himself up as the boat rocked, Katara looked over as well worried.
"Get Aang inside," Katara called to her brother.
"On it," he agreed running to the avatar.
"What I'm fine! I can help!" Aang tried to fight back but Sokka was stronger than him at the moment as he guided him inside.
"We just need to get them off our tail, we got three strong benders we'll be fine," Sokka eased him as Aang leaned against the wall by the door.
"I can help," Aang scoffed.
"Another time," sokka looked to see if they were losing the enemy.
Instead they were impaled by a spear in the side of the ship, ripping a hole when it was yanked out, water flooding into the bottom of the ship. Katara immediately froze the hole to stop the water from sinking them.
"I'm gonna give us some cover!" Katara warned before she bended a fog to cover around them including the other ship, both being lost in the thick fog and unable to see where the enemies were.
"Toph can you load another Boulder?" She asked walking back.
They heard something flying their way and looked over for another flaming Boulder to land in the center of the deck but it didn't go through the flooring.
"Why can't we just lose them?" Jet growled frustrated that they were hit again as Katara put out the water.
"How are we doing?" Toph hung onto the railing.
"Things couldn't get much worse," Sokka groaned stressfully.
Only for a giant serpent to spring out of the water with a high pitch roar when they reached its territory.
"The universe just loves proving me wrong," Sokka whined turning to the enormous beast.
"You make it to easy," Toph commented.
The serpent was about to attack them first but a flaming Boulder landed in the serpents face, creating all the attention on the other ship, it went to attack and wrapped around the ship as the other soldiers yelled in fear of the beast. Using the distraction to get away quickly.
"Thank you the universe," Sokka clasped his hands together while they sailed away.
