Day dreams

By the morning Aang was focused on his training despite what everyone has told him, he was punching a tree as it shook some leafs off. Katara woke up to the sound of him hitting it, she looked at Sokka as he was just as confused of why the tree was his victim.

"Hey how long have you been up?" Katara yawned walking up to Aang.

"A few hours, I got a lot more skills to refine if I'm gonna fight Ozai," Aang kicked and hit the tall tree and circled it a few times.

"You know there is such thing as over training," Katara put her hands on her hips.

Aang panted for a breath but went for a final blow but when his fist hit, it sent a shiver up his body and he fell back.

"Where have you been?" Katara noticed Zuko coming back from where ever he was.

"I scoped out the island," he told her simply.

"What happened to him?" Zuko frowned seeing Aang on the ground.

"He was training," she shook her head.

"You don't get it do you?" Aang jumped back to his feet and circled Katara instead.

"My form is bad, I'm sloppy, and I still don't know any fire bending! Not even the basics," Aang stressed as he posed in fighting stances.

"That's okay Aang, the eclipse will block off all fire bending anyways, plus it's a stupid element... no offense Zuko," sokka was looking at his map while laying on his back.

"I'm still going to take offense," Zuko tilted his head to the side.

"Well okay, I still have to work on everything else, I need to spend the whole day training," Aang bowed to each of them then took off on his air scooter.

Katara blinked surprised, looking at Zuko as he and Sokka looked just as dumbfounded.

"Did you give him your insomnia?" Katara huffed a little rubbing her face.

"Oh yea he said we could share it," Zuko scoffed sarcastically.

"I think he's just cracking from pressure," he explained grabbing the water to drink.

"But he's not going to be alone," katara worried.

"Are you the avatar?" Zuko asked.

"No," she didn't understand.

"No matter what happens a lot of people are only going to hear of the avatar, if he fails or succeeds, and aangs just a kid, killing someone intentionally is life changing, especially if he's a monk," Zuko elaborated. Katara held her breath at that, taken back of what aang is going to be facing.

"You're right," she breathed.

"Aang just needs all of our support right now, we look out for each other," she nodded determined.

"Sokka get up! I need to know what day it is!" Aang bolted awake and immediately started poking at the non bender the next morning.

"What?! Who's talking!?" Sokka sat up quickly but smacked his head on the stone wall that he was sleeping next too.

"Relax, it's still two days before the invasion," Toph snapped as their sleep was interrupted now once again.

"Sokka you gotta get up and drill your rock climbing exercises," aang pulled on his leg as Sokka stayed laying down.

"Huh?" He didn't understand.

"In one of my dreams you were getting chased by fire nation soldiers while trying to climb this cliff, but they were to slow and they got you," aang ended up yelling in panic without realizing how loud he was being.

"I'm an excellent rock climber," Sokka argued.

"Then climb that cliff! Climb it now!" Aang pointed frantically. Sokka looked at the cliff then looked at Aang, the younger boy nodded happily.

"Ugh, stupid," Sokka gave in and went to climb.

"Don't drink that!" Aang pointed at Toph while she was drinking but spit it out all over Katara.

"Is it poison?!" Toph cried out confused.

"In my dream you had to use the bathroom in the middle of the invasion and we all died cause of your weak bladder!" Aang explained quickly.

"And you need to start wearing glasses cause you were reading the map to us but got everyone lost and ran right into a trap cause your poor eye sight," he moved onto Zuko, who's jaw dropped in disbelief.

"Excuse me?" Zuko growled.

"And you need to wear your hair up-" "aangs these are just dreams," Katara stopped him.

"My eyes are fine," zuko glared and pouted a little sitting with Toph.

"But you're blind in one!" Aang cried out.

Zuko stared at him with his eye twitching with rage boiling.

"Aang I know your just trying to help but you need to get a grip, your unraveling," katara touched his shoulder to get his attention off the angry teen.

"But zukos doesn't ever sleep! And he's fine! I'm fine!" Aang motioned to Zuko as the older teen didn't look amused.

"Zuko is the worst example," Katara pinched the bridge of her nose.

"I need to practice and stay away or I'll forget my pants," Aang tried to reason.

"And your math test," Zuko agreed. Aang pointed at him frantically and wide eyes agreeing with his logic.

"No," Katara told them both.

"It's just every time I think about how stressed I am, I just get more stressed, I'm just a big growing snowball of nerves,"  he started to walk in circles behind the group as they were going to their own thing during the day.

"Of course you are, you have to fight the baddest, evil, villainous man on the planet," sokka turned from building appas armor. "And you better win or we're all done for,"

"Oi," Zuko threw a pebble at him.

"What? It's true, that's the deal he knows it," sokka looked at him but Katara threw a rock next.

"You know what, Zuko and I were about to go off, why don't you join us to de-stressified," Katara put both her hands on aangs shoulder as he was panicking at the future.

"You two go to hot springs?" Aang made a face.

"We meditate and do yoga sometimes if we find a nice area, it releases tension," Katara explained to him.

"Apparently I need to let go and relax so I don't keep getting knots in my neck," Zuko mimicked rolling his eyes at what he's been told. Katara smacked his shoulder.

"I guess I could give it a try," Aang gulped a little.

"Go without me, you look like you need one on one session," Zuko waved them off, Katara pursed her lips disappointed but nodded.

Katara lead Aang away to try helping him relax while Zuko laid in the grass with Toph and Sokka.

"So you do yoga?" Sokka grinned teasingly.

"What about it? You could use some," Zuko wasn't bother.

"How'd yoga go?" Zuko saw Sokka try to console Aang next while Katara pulled her hair out of the bun she had it up in before.

"He started freaking out," Katara sighed in defeat. "Sokkas up, gonna try have him talk it out,"

"He's getting to his own head," he shook his head.

"But you're doing great Katara, trying to help him and all," Zuko offered a small smile to her.

Katara felt her cheeks heat up a little, she thanked him quietly.

"Do you think you could help him? Anything you think would work?" She asked curiously.

"Alcohol works, let his guard down," Zuko thought about it.

"Aang is not getting drunk he's twelve!" Katara gasped horrified.

"I tried wine when I was like nine at dinners, tried straight liquor at thirteen?" Zuko didn't understand.

"What's wine?" She didn't know.

"Grape juice," he smiled crossing his arms.

"I don't trust you, no he's not getting drunk," Katara scoffed.

Sokka came up to them with his fake beard on still.

"No luck?" Katara asked.

"Tophs turn, something about acupuncture and a massage?" Sokka didn't quite understand.

"That shit won't work," she said flatly.

"I have extra strong herbs," zuko offered.

"Stop trying to get Aang drunk and drugged," Kataras jaw dropped.

"I'll keep it close when you're ready," he hummed.

-

Aang didn't sleep again for the night, waking up in screams and trembling. He ignored the others and went off training on his own with momo and appa sleeping close by. Repeating he would just stay awake during the entire invasion.

"So where is this alcohol you claim?" Katara sat with Zuko under the tree in the afternoon as he kept an eye on Aang training. He was just talking to momo and the trees.

Zuko reached in his boot and handed her a tiny flask.

"It's like what you tried in the desert, your dad's friend gave me some before we broke off," he opened it for her.

"Bato? Why do you guys drink it when it tastes bad?" Katara sipped it and made a disgusted face.

"I don't really drink it often, sometimes when I go on walks at night," Zuko took a sip after.

"I've only been actual drunk once cause I found a whole bottle of this shit," he snorted a little.

"Why did you get drunk only once?" Katara leaned her head on his shoulder bored.

"I was angry, it was a little before I joined you guys, I was angry about my situation, and about... Lee," his heart sank a little at the thought of his brother.

He choked up covering his mouth, it's been a while since he thought about Lee. He took a bigger gulp of the alcohol from the flask. How could he stop thinking about his brother? Was he that selfish?

"Wow im a terrible person," zuko whispered to himself.

"What?" Katara lifted her head off his shoulder.

"Sorry, nothing," he waved it off.

"Don't apologize, if you need to talk I'm here," she hugged his arm and rested against her friend again. Zuko nodded and patted her hands that held onto his arm.

"I know," he leaned against her as well. Who knew he could be so okay with physical touch.

"Hey I have an idea to help Aang," zuko gathered himself and stood up, he offered his hand to Katara. She smiled and took it following him to help with his idea.

By nightfall Aang wondered back to the group and saw it was foggier than when he left, and a bed in the middle.

"Oh I must really be losing it now," Aang rubbed his eyes. He walked over and touched the bed suspiciously.

"An imaginary bed made of clouds, another hallucination," he crawled on it trying to figure out what it really was.

"Oi it's real," Zuko snapped him back to reality.

"Yea we've been working on it all day," toph crossed her arms.

"We made it for you, a good night of sleep will probably take the crazy away," sokka shrugged standing next to shaved down koala sheep.

"It was zukos idea," Katara smiled gently.

"Look you guys keep telling me I need to go to sleep but I can't! The invasion is tomorrow!" Aang sat at the end of the bed glaring at them.

"Aang-" "no Katara there's so much I still haven't learned, I don't need sleep, I need to practice," he cut the water bender off before she could try.

Zuko put his hand on the back of her arm and gently moved her forward to try again. Giving her courage to try again. She took a step and put her hand on aangs shoulder.

"Listen to me, you've been training for this since the day we met, I've seen your progress, your smart, brave, and strong enough," she told him in a confident yet kind tone as Aang finally listened to her. He relaxed at her words.

"You really think so?" He let his guard down.

"We all do," Sokka agreed.

"Your the man twinkle toes," Toph gave a thumbs up.

"You're more than ready," zuko looked at him calmly.

"Thanks guys," Aang could feel sleep creeping up on him finally and laid back in the bed.

"I think I'm going to get some sleep," he yawned curling up.

"See you in the morning," Katara touched the side of his face before they left him to get a good night of sleep.
