Darkest day

Sokka was in defeat on the ground as Aang and Katara were on lookout for the owl but one of the knowledge foxes came over by them wanting their attention.

"Uh hello.. little weird fox guy?" Sokka turned to him and it turned around in a pointing position.

"It seems its trying to assist you," professor zei looked at it curiously.

"Sure I guess I'll follow you," Sokka sent Zuko a glance unsure when they followed the fox.

They ran across the library and saw a giant circle that was made out of gold and basically was as tall as the wall, it could fit five appas in the golden circle. The fox ran into a tiny hole in the wall and a moment later the golden circle moved to the size creating an entrance where the fox waited on the other side for them.

They walked in suspiciously when the fox went ahead to the center table of the room, pushing on a lever to activate the room. Their guard was up when the room shifted and the ceiling of the room turned into stars that moved one way. Everyone was in awe of the contraption that made the stars, moon and sun move.

"This room is a true marvel, a mechanical marvel," the professor breathed as they watched.

"It's a planetarium that shows the heavens moving!" He exclaimed grabbing zukos sleeve in excitement. While the fire bender frowned at the touch, backing away to get his space back.

"Uhh this is beautiful but how is it helpful?" Sokka looked at the two behind him and his sister and avatar. The stars shifted and it looked like the day in the room as the sun was above them.

"Maybe these dials represent dates and times," Katara looked at the table that was center of the room.

"Sokka try entering the date from that parchment You took," she pointed over.

"Shh Katara not in front of the fox, he's with the owl," Sokka hushed her frantic and sent the fox a glare. The foxes ears went down with a whine.

They continued anyways as Sokka read the date and time of the paper then started to move the dials to the date while the machines moved the sun and moon around when he pushed the lever down.

"Wow I gotta hand it to ya, You picked the best mini vacations Sokka," Aang stared at the false sky above.

Till the sky was day time and the room was dimmed, they all looked at the sun only to see it was covered by the moon.

"Wait what happened to the sun?" Katara frowned looking over.

"Great you must've broken it," Aang pouted.

"No, it's not broken, the sun is hidden behind the moon so that must mean it's a solar eclipse!" Sokka gasped turning to Zuko who looked panicked for a minute.

"It's literally the darkest day in fire nation history," he smiled brightly.

"Something awful happened on that day, I don't know what but I do know why!" Sokka shook Aang in excitement.

"What does that mean?" Katara asked looking at the older boys.

"Fire benders loose their bending on the solar eclipse," Zuko crossed his arms.

"That makes sense, the lunar eclipse in the North Pole made the water benders loose their bending," Katara nodded understanding. "This is huge,"

"We've got to get this information to the earth king at ba sing se, we'll wait for the next eclipse then we'll invade the fire nation when they're totally helpless," Sokka put his hand on aangs shoulder.

"The fire lord is going down!" He laughed at having the upper hand for once.

Katara couldn't help but look over at Zuko to see if she could read his face. He was looking at the dial in the center but his face was emotionless. He was listening to every word they had to say.

He looked over at them but glared, Katara gulped seeing his guard was up again, only to feel a shadow over the three of them.

"Mortals are so predictable," wan chi tong sighed behind them. "And such terrible liars,"

Oh.

"You betrayed my trust, from the beginning you intended to misuse those knowledge for evil purposes," wan chi tong towered over them as the humans slowly backed away.

"You don't understand! If anyone is evil it's the fire nation, You saw what they did to your library, they're destructive and dangerous, we need this information... no offense zuko," Sokka looked over at the soldier.

"Slight offense," Zuko replied dryly.

"You think that your the first person to believe their war was justified?" The spirit bellowed down at them angrily.

"Countless others before you come here seeking weapons or weaknesses or battle strategies," he sneered.

"We had no choice, please we're just desperate to protect the people we love," Aang begged.

"And now I am protecting what I love," the owl narrowed his eyes before flapping his long wings creating harsh winds and the room to shake. No, the library to shake.

"What are You doing?!" Aang cried out.

"I'm taking my knowledge back, no one will ever abuse it again!"

"The library is sinking we have to go!" Katara yelled over the rumbling.

"I'm afraid I can't allow that, you already know to much," the owl echoed as his neck stretched longer before diving down to try attacking them.

Everyone ran out of the planetarium as sand started to slip through the cracks of the library.

They sprinted through the aisles of books trying to get to the center again where they entered, the library stopped rumbling but the sand continued to pour through. The professor gripped onto the stack of books while running till he stopped to the spirit that chased them.

"Great knowledge spirit I beg you! Do not destroy your vast collection of priceless tomes-" the professor was cut off by Aang using air to pull him with before the spirit snapped its sharp beak at him.

Sokka caught the professor as Aang used his staff to whip a powerful blast of air to push the spirit over the side of the bridge, falling dozens of story's below. But that wouldn't be the end of it.

"We got to get to the surface," Aang panted catching up to the others. They all ran to the direction except Sokka.

"Sokka let's go!" His sister snapped.

"We still don't know when the next eclipse will happen," Sokka didn't budge.

"We'll find out later don't be stupid," Katara was frantic to escape.

"No we won't, if we leave this place we'll never get the information... Aang come with me to the planetarium I need cover," Sokka motioned back to where they came.

"Katara take momo and get to safety, Zuko watch her back," Sokka pointed back to them as the two enemies sent a look at each other.

"You're leaving me alone with the soldier?" She asked annoyed.

Before anyone could reply wan chi tong burst through the wall between the two groups, he noticed Zuko, Katara and the professor first and chased after them instead while Sokka and Aang ran the opposite way.

Zuko looked back as he had Katara run ahead of him but saw the professor dive to the side before he was attacked by the spirit. They couldn't go back for him they had to save themselves.

Katara panted as she tried to run faster but she just couldn't, suddenly Zuko grabbed her wrist and dragged her along as he was faster than her. She cried out trying to not trip.

Zuko stopped and whipped her body to the side making her tumble and hide behind the aisle when they lost the owl, he crouched down the aisle next to her while they tried to breathe quiet as possible. It was silent while they listened to the spirits foot steps.

"At least I'll have one specimen to add to my collection," wan chi tong hummed and a moment later his head snapped between the teens making them both scream. Zuko kicked fire at the spirit before they both ran again.

"There!" Katara slid before she missed the rope while Zuko was close behind. The spirit was too.

They stopped in front of the rope and both were ready to defend themselves since they couldn't climb fast enough.

"Your bending won't do you much good here, that fire was no more than a tickle before," the spirit looked down at them with his wings spread.

"I've studied northern water style, southern, even foggy swamp style," he took a step closer.

Aang flew above the owl and Sokka dropped on top of the spirits head with a large textbook and a battle cry.

"That's called Sokka style, learn it!" The big brother grinned proudly when the bird fell.

They crawled onto the spirit that was in the way of their escape and every time started to climb up, but one person was missing.

"Professor let's go!" Sokka saw the older man sitting and reading a scroll.

"I'm not leaving, I can't, I spent to long trying to find this place, there's not another collection of knowledge like this on earth... I could spend an eternity here," the professor smiled at them, no sorrow, no fear, but his face looked at peace with death to follow.

"Just go!" Zuko barked at the bottom of the rope while wan chi tong started rise again with a screech. The spirit grabbed onto the bottom of the rope and tried to pull them down.

Aang swooped to grab the top of the rope and pull the three up  as soon as wan chi tong let go. The air bender flew straight up as the spirit was flying over them, he aimed straight for the small window just in time to escape the library.

They all rolled to the sand with grunts, Toph was gripping the side of the tower and heard everyone drop to the sand and she let out a yelp when she released the building and fell back.

Less than thirty seconds later the entire library sunk under the sand.

The five of them stood there panting for a breath while adrenaline left their systems.

"No more mini vacations," Zuko wheezed as he went over to see if Toph was alright.

"You okay?" He knelt down to her seeing she had her hands over her ears and eyes closed.

"Where's appa?" Aang asked walking over curiously.

Toph shook her head.
