Confessed
"Tell us where the fire lord is!" Aang demanded again.
"I'm surprised my brother didn't try to lead you to him himself," azula inspected her nails.
"Your brother?" Aang lowered his staff a little.
"My dear big brother? Zuzu?" Azula tilted her head to the side. "Oh my, it looks like he's still keeping secrets,"
"No the prince of the fire nation is with you guys, he's been in the palace," Sokka snorted shaking his head.
"Yea that's just for the nations people to believe, but my brother has been out and about for the past few years, Zuko doesn't like to share to much about himself," she smiled seeing their faces twist in confusion and fear.
"You're lying," Aang glared.
"Let's see, what's something about Zuko that I can prove only his family would know? I mean our uncle knows him best, does he ever talk about uncle? General Iroh? I mean you must know about those letters they've been sending to each other," Azula reached behind her and showed them one of zukos letters that was sent to their uncle.
"His uncle is a higher up but not royalty.." Sokka remembered.
"Well what's higher than a general?" Azula put a finger on her chin to think.
"Uh oh, I see your a bit upset," she cooed at the three.
"We should talk,"
Zuko sighed shaking his head.
"I'm sorry I'm not up for whatever conversation, I have to much on my mind," he waved them off.
Katara touched the back of his arm softly, she was worried how much her friends heard.
"Katara we need you to step away, zukos not who you think he is," Aang gulped a little standing with Sokka and Toph.
"A fire nation child soldier who's a wanted criminal now by azulas order? I think I know who he is," katara rolled her eyes not taking them serious.
"Yea and before a child soldier?" Toph tilted her head.
"Why do you care?" Zuko frowned.
"Zuko we know, we know everything," Sokka told him in a low voice.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" He played dumb.
"Don't make this harder than it is," sokka shook his head.
"I don't know what you're truing to say?" Zuko didn't budge.
"Are you or are you not the prince of the fire nation?" Sokka asked seriously. Zuko didn't react but he looked at each of their face.
Shit.
"I'm not," he told them.
Sokka and Aang looked at Toph who was just as confused.
"He's not lying," she made a face.
"Then why would Azula say that your her brother? Are you a bastard child? Half siblings?" Sokka didn't understand.
"Oi don't call me a bastard," zuko crossed his arms.
"Zuko this is serious," Aang said worried.
"It is serious, it's a fucked accusation especially if you're going to believe Azula, she told you this during the invasion, she would say anything to stall," he huffed shaking his head.
"Zuko isn't the enemy," Katara reminded them.
"Fine, let me ask this, are you ozais first born?" Toph tried instead.
"No," Zuko gritted.
Her face dropped, disappointed in her heart.
"That's a lie," Toph caught him.
They were silent as that was all the evidence they needed.
They were betrayed by the truth. It was to late. They were convinced and there was no way he could get out of it.
"It doesn't change anything, Zuko is still our friend, he's been fighting against the fire nation with us," katara spoke first as the tension was thick.
"He probably was the one that told them about the invasion," Aang glared.
"It wasn't me," Zuko said quickly.
"Zuko tell us the truth, who the hell are you? Have you been spying for the fire nation this whole time?" Sokka asked as he felt just as betrayed.
"I never have been a spy!" the fire bender told them.
"Those letters to your uncle?" Toph pointed out.
"You mean General Iroh? The fire lords brother?" Sokka raised a brow.
Zuko sighed pinching the bridge of his nose as he mumbled.
"Today of all days," Zuko sighed.
"Why does it matter where I'm from?" He looked at Sokka exhausted.
"Because the fire lord is your father! The man we're suppose to take down," Aang cried out.
"Have I stopped you from taking him down?" Zuko rolled his eyes.
"So you admit it then?" Aang frowned.
Zukos eyes moved to Katara, she didn't know what to do either.
"... yea... ozais my father, and fire lady ursa is my mother," he closed his eyes.
Suddenly Sokka ran and grabbed zukos collar and shoved him against the wall.
"You lied this whole time?!" Sokka yelled in his face.
"Your related to that monster!? You knew where he was today! You let us fail?! Are we a joke to you?!" He screamed as Zuko grunted gripping Sokkas wrist to loosen the hold.
"I tried to kill him too! I want this war over!" Zuko defended trying to get Sokkas hand off him.
"That's enough, you know better than that," katara pushed Sokka back glaring.
"Don't be stupid, all of you," she hissed at them.
"Wha- did you know?" Aang scrunched his nose.
Katara nodded but didn't move.
"Of course you did," Toph scoffed shaking her head.
"Were you even a soldier? Was it a cover? Have you lied about it all?" Aang rubbed his face frustrated.
Zuko was lost for words, he sighed and sat back down putting his face in his hands. He couldn't do this today, he couldn't keep doing this.
"Zuko fucking say something," Sokka snapped.
"I told you my father, what else do you need to know?" Zuko kept his head down.
"Did you tell your uncle about the invasion?" Sokka glared.
"No, no details about the day of black sun, I told him where we've been and what we've encountered, but it doesn't matter," he sighed.
"I never would do anything to betray you guys," zuko finally looked back at them, he was honest and hopeful for his friends to stay his friends.
"Why not? You have a palace waiting for you," toph didn't buy it completely. Something was missing.
"I already told you, I don't have a home to go back too," Zuko shrugged.
They fell silent again. Zuko shrugged and got back up with a heavy sigh.
"You don't have to like me, hate me for it even, but I'm going to fight in this war, I want to see peace again for the world, I'm on your side," he told them tiredly, he nodded firmly at that as he was done defending himself.
"I'm going to go get a snack," he yawned a little and walked away from them.
Sokka and Aang didnt know what to say as Toph was just as lost. Finding out so much but also nothing at the same time.
"When the hell did you find out?" Sokka motioned to Katara.
"Azula told me too in ba sing se," she shrugged.
"Didn't care to share with the group?" Toph offered sarcastically.
"We had other shit going on, never had the chance," Katara said simply before walking off as well.
