10:05 pm

They had agreed to meet at 10 o'clock, Harry was five minutes late. This really meant nothing but to Draco it seemed to confirm his suspicion that Harry was in fact planning to bring Hermione and Ron along to laugh at him for even suggesting that Harry should meet him. Maybe Harry would bring more people, perhaps the whole of Gryffindor, after all that is what Draco would have done if Harry dare ask him to meet. Well perhaps not... If a week ago it happened Draco would but now, he actually didn't mind Harry. This afternoon had been amazing, like having a real friend, someone to laugh with and talk and muck around, maybe Harry wasn't all that bad.

Draco angrily punched the bench that he was sitting on, obviously Harry didn't feel the same way. What a fool I am, what a complete idiot! To think that Harry would ever like me, to think the 'Chosen one' would ever want to be friends with someone on the dark lord's side. The lying git.

"Draco?" The large arched gold doors that were the entrance to the prefect's bathroom had parted slightly and through the crack was Harry, with his messy hair and slightly crooked glasses. "Sorry, I'm a bit late" He smiled guiltily.

"Oh it's fine, I suppose Hermione took a while to get ready" Draco spat, forcing as much venom in his words that he could muster.

Harry stepped further towards Draco and gave him a confused look "Hermione isn't with me"

"Oh..." Draco whispered in a small voice, maybe he was wrong, Harry wasn't trying to make a fool of him. "I'm sorry, I thought you had come with them to make a fool of me"

"Oh..." Harry lifted his head up slightly and grinned "it's fine, I thought you had come to make a fool of me"

Draco smiled and Harry returned, soon they were laughing quite hysterically. Harry placed himself alongside Draco on the bench. "If we can ever be friends we need more trust."

Draco nodded and tried to not think about how tightly they were squished together on the marble bench.

Then a thought came to him that made his smile fall. "Perhaps we can't be friends"

"What do you mean?"

"We are so different, you and I. How can we ever be friends? You're in Gryffindor, I'm in slytherin. You live with muggles and I live with pure bloods" Draco racked his brain for more "You have black hair and I have blonde. You're on the good side and I'm..." Draco stopped himself from saying the last thing "And I bet there's way more opposites we have" Something Draco had heard before came to his mind, making his face grow hot, opposite attracts.

"That may be so, but what does it matter what house we're in? Why does any of it matter? I'm best friends with Ron and he lives with pure bloods and has ginger hair. As for the good and bad... maybe you can change..." Draco saw Harry look embarrassed and look away "We have similarities as well, we're both seekers, we both love quidditch. We're competitive and we both have to do things that we don't want to"

Draco was shocked at the last comment, how did Harry know he had a task to perform? And what is it that Harry has to do?

Harry continued "There is probably much, much more, we just don't know each other well enough. Draco jumped a little as Harry's hand shifted slightly and pressed lightly on the side of Draco's hand that was resting on the seat. Did Harry do that intentionally? For some reason it made him feel strange.

"I- I guess you're right" Draco sighed.

Then Draco felt himself shift slightly towards Harry. Their shoulders touched ever so slightly and Draco desperately wanted to move away from Harry, he didn't know why he did it in the first place, but he knew he couldn't, maybe Harry hadn't felt it? It was a very light touch. Draco felt Harry's body tense up then relax and he could swear that Harry pushed a little harder against him. The closeness felt uncomfortable but strangely relaxing at the same time. Draco hadn't been this close to anyone in a while, except for when he fell on to of Harry. Draco felt the urge to rest his head on Harry's shoulder but quickly pushed that absurd thought out of his mind. After that thought he felt extremely uncomfortable and moved away from Harry again.

"So... What's your favourite Quidditch team?"

***

How long had he been talking to Harry, hours? Draco didn't know but he had loved every second of it. They didn't talk about anything deep and strayed far away from conversations about the whole wizarding war. It was relaxing just talking about things like quidditch and school and laughing at random jokes and stories. To be honest this was just what Draco needed, just a funny, non-serious chat with a... Friend?

Draco didn't know what to consider Harry, were they friends? They had only actually gotten along twice so maybe it was too early to consider Harry a friend. Unless Harry considered him a friend then maybe he would consider Harry one.

It was all so confusing, he would worry about that later.

"Oh my!" Harry cried

"What? What is it?"

"It's almost 3, we should go"

Draco nodded although he wanted to do anything but go.

They walked together past the pool sized bath and out the door "See you then" Harry stepped out the door.

"Wait!" Draco grabbed hold of Harry's hand "Can- can we meet again?"

"Yes how about tomorrow?" Harry asked. Draco shook his head, "I have something to do."

"Oh...Ok" Harry said. Draco was glad he didn't press further.

"How about Monday?"

"I have a meeting with Dumbledore"

Draco shoot him a curious look but didn't say anything about it. "Tuesday?"

"Tuesday" Harry agreed.

Then Harry asked the exact question that had been bugging Draco. "Are we friends?"

Draco stuttered "I don't know... I suppose...If you want to..?

Harry nodded and Draco felt butterflies return to his stomach. "But we can't have anyone know, just us"

Harry nodded "Okay"

And with that they departed, Draco headed left to his common room and Harry went right.

It was almost morning and Draco was still awake, thinking about Harry. They were friend, who would've thought it? Draco and Harry, enemies for five years and now friends. But something was bothering Draco, a little voice in the back of his head.

"Do you really want him as just a friend? Does one friend really stay up all night thinking about the other?"

Draco rolled over in his bed "No" He told the voice "We are just friends"

I'm really pissed, I planned on writing a lot in the holidays but the teachers sprung three assignments to do and I'm so busy so I probs won't update for a while. ;-;
