Different-Toned Nightmare.
Disclaimer: I do not own Little Nightmares. I also do not own the picture.
(This is a Little nightmares (video games) oneshot.)
(Its Mono and Six-centric)
(Sorry if the characters seem OOC.)
(qwertuno and SilentReadersMatter and Mycurrentfandom And -H0RIZ0N)
(I apologise for any spelling mistakes.)
(Could be considered a sequel to my previous oneshot, 'Post-apocalyptic Nightmare.' Lol.)
(Hope you enjoy this little oneshot. 😄)
Six and Mono travel together.
Well, as together as they can be. Surprisingly, Six didn't drop the boy. Instead, she pull him up.
Mono stands on the edge, holding Six's hand.
They're not separate.
Holy heck.
He looks at their arms. An instinctive result, there should've been something else. Mono almost feels the anomaly set on place.
Six acts like she's aware of a difference.
At least it seems to be a good thing.
Mono hugs the girl close. She'd saved his life, not leaving him behind. Six allows the hug, only if because Mono's actually earned it.
"Thanks."
Six never says a word. She doesn't have to.
Grasping Six's hand, Mono makes the escape.
***
The door's portal leads the duo to the woods.
What?
He groaned, gaining consciousness one more. He still feels Six next to himself. A kind of unspoken bond formed between the duo.
He knows Six has the intention of never letting go.
Mono found himself not caring.
Standing up, the boy looks to the television to see his reflection. A actual working screen appears.
There's no paper bag on his head.
There has to be something different.
There is, Mono just had to find it. Looking around, the wilderness hasn't lost it's creepy touch. Six even seems able to spot the traps.
"HALT!"
Both flinch, jumping away. Mono stands in front of Six instinctively. Kids with spears jump off birds, four staying behind to guard the flying animals.
Crows.
"Say what you need, and get out."
Get out? I've been here every loop.
His vocal chords are scratchy, but Mono dares to speak up. His voice sounds like a normal child's.
It surprised all of them.
"We come in peace."
You meant to say that, right?
Six's harsh glare makes Mono pray he hadn't screwed up. She squeezes his hand in assurances.
Actions speak louder then words.
"Geez, toddler." A harsh voice chuckled. "Gotta have all the loot, ain't ya?"
The main leader glanced behind to see a show there. It had the shape of a distinctive child, though they're covered in ashy skin.
What's going on?
Six thought, having the urge to run. It's how they've always escaped their enemies. There is something off about this world.
"Shut up, Runaway." Toddler hissed, pointing through spear. "They're mine. I found them first."
"Well." The one named Runaway teleported behind the duo. Some little critters follow. "I found them second. Now, scram along. Unless the nomes are feeling very, very hungry."
Nervous, The Toddler loses the staring challenge. He reluctantly backs down, signalling them all to fly off. The rest of the children obey, dispersing to a group.
Mono only has one question.
Why are you talking?
Isn't the general rule not to? Six's confused face mirrors his own. Runaway glances behind, the nomes restraining the kids.
Everything goes dark.
***
"Seriously?"
A new voice sounds as Six wakes up. Mono's still asleep next to the girl. She realises they'd been knocked out.
Acting like she's still out, Six feels a hand trace down her raincoat. The unknown figure's breath hitches.
"How is she alive? Runaway? What do you do?"
Runaway giggles, Six opening her eyes to get used to the blurry vision. Runaway appears normal now, surrounding by the nomes who caught them earlier.
That kid looked very, very familiar.
"It's Seven."
The voice changed to a more deeper, more adult tone. Six feels terrified, staying in place. Still.
"Sure." The figures rolls its eyes. "You aren't consuming them, we already know she's alive. Even if the logic says she shouldn't be."
"So?"
Six fully sits up now, watching the child spirit float around whilst the nomes did their own thing. The figure leaned back against the furnace with his arms folded.
"They have to be alive, Thin Man demanded."
"Why do you even work for the prick?"
They're older, Six can tell. Teenagers. These kids aren't under the age of ten. Maybe around fourteen or fifteen?
One looks similar to Mono. He took the paper bag off, stroking a hand through his hair in frustration.
"Hehe. Offered a pay."
"Of what? Signals."
"..."
"You didn't."
Mono began to arouse from slumber, Six's grip tight. They began shuffling backwards, unfortunately the nomes catching on and restraining them.
Both figures turn to face Six and Mono.
The first floats towards the two, skin turning more ashy. Six knew the term, Shadow kid. He'd become one of the demons haunting this world.
"Seven, chill the hell out."
"Shut up, Mono."
That caused a froze in the child version. His older version grasped their hands and pulled them up.
"Name's Mono as the bozo gave away." He glared harshly at Seven, the shadow demon smiling sheepishly. "One of the few good kids left in this world. He won't hurt you, promise."
This Mono's smile is more straight.
More mature, emotionally scared maybe. His smile doesn't quite reach his face. The coat and clothes are so similar to the Mono standing next to Six.
"KEEEEDSSSSSSHHHHH!"
The screech causes all to freeze. Seven growls, looking out the window. Others stand out there.
"Shadow kids."
That furnace that one burned brightly flames out.
Mono narrows his eyes, glancing at the younger version of his original and Six's self.
They're kids, why did she send them?
The lady is after the remaining children to contribute in her little army. Mono is one of the only she hasn't gotten yet.
The rest are dead.
Growling, the older male hoisted the kids on his back. Seven guided Mono to the animal able to help them right now.
He placed the kids and flew off, the shadows consuming every bit of land. Mono looked behind to see kids beginning to float.
Damn.
He kicked the bird's side to force the bird faster. It obeyed the command and began warp speed ahead to the nearest safety shelter.
Thanks for the lame name, Seven.
Shadow kids started appearing everywhere now.
The creatures surrounded the crow. Mono refused to give up, kicking it once more to signal charging.
The crow obeyed, crashing through the shadows. He hoped the animal's corruption held off until they reached their intended destination.
The younger Mono watched his older self ride the crow. It's scary and thrilling at the same time. The stars would've been pretty to see.
Landing the crow, Mono hoisted the kids off.
He stabbed the crow's heart.
"Why do that?!"
Mono turned to the younger Six. The alone version anyway. He chuckled at the distant memory.
"In this world, everybody's out to get you."
"Why do you speak?"
Mono crouched down, placing a hand on his younger self's shoulder. He hoped it to be a reassuring gesture, he hadn't comforted anyone before.
"Your world may have monsters, but everyone's a type here. I'm the killing and protect myself kind. Others are...different." Mono narrows his eyes. "I guess Six took you out the signal tower."
Memories of being dropped crossed the older self's mind. A moment of glitches, depression, the damn Thin Man becoming himself.
For a moment, his heart pumped.
This Mono nods. The younger self has more hope.
It's a trait the older self can admire.
"I'm fourteen." The teenager stood up, now revealing his older age compared to theirs. "How old are you?"
"Nine." Six replied, taking a step forward. Mono resist the urge to job a knife in her skull. "Mono's eleven."
Eleven? Jesus.
The fourteen year old admires his younger self more. He'd been thirteen when going about the journey.
He feels strangely protective over these two.
"You want help?" He crouched down again. "I can get you to somewhere safe, then we'll head where you need to go."
Mono eagerly nods, always the trusting type. At least Six has the decency to look suspicious of Mono's offer. She has more common sense.
He guesses the younger self is lucky to have her around. His smiles become genuine.
"I'll help." Their smiles drop at the next words. "In exchange of a price. I come with you."
Get away from the memories.
Six cocks head head. "Where my version?"
"Honest." The duo nod, Mono shrugs. "She's dead. I got her killed as some part in vengeance. My pay was well, so I cant complain. The nomes are very hungry these days. It helps at the good moments."
The shock turns their veins cold. The two silently glance to each other, considering even allowing the thought of a killer coming.
But, they have done their sins. Maybe they could escape, everyone deserved a chance.
Nodding, the younger Mono took a breath. He shook the other's hand in a deal type of way.
"Okay."
The older self beamed excitedly of finally exiting this place. The hell of a world that'd warped everyone.
Including himself.
Climbing in the crow, Mono gestured time the two the start of their journey. His smile become more twisted once the darkness settled in.
"Climb on."
