Six P.O.V

It was a dark and stormy night.

Rain poured down, the strong winds swept throughout Pale City. Buildings and towers loomed over a small cat that was silently walking down a dark alleyway.

A she-cat, that was small-but cunning and aware of everything that appeared around her. She was small, wearing a bright yellow raincoat that covered her white patterned fur,black-covered patterns sploshed her body-top to bottom. Her sapphire eyes darted from one place to another, she was looking for a place to take cover from the harsh conditions.

Six was soaked, not too soaked since the yellow raincoat blocked some rain.

'I don't see a dumpster anywhere..' Her tail flickered back and forth anxiously as she turned to a left, exiting out of the long alleyway. It had been days since she had eaten, by now she was desperate for food.

'At least please give me a place to take shelter...' She frowned.' Why did this have to happen..to me..?

Six knew well why this was happening to her, she chose this way-to to become a loner, a runaway. It has been so long ever since she had an owner, though the owner had abandoned her-left her to die out here.

After that incident, she never trusted anyone or anything.

Six was lost in thought, of how she would even last out here,'But it is possible, to survive as a runaway??' Six thought, she had seen other runaways-but it all ended badly for them, some getting stuck on beartraps, or getting caught by butchers and hunters. Six had seen all of it-even witnessing it in front of her.

Six winced.

She once again turned to a corner-but only to hear something behind her; a squishing sound that rhythmed while the rain poured down, her sharp ears twitched at the sound.

She was being followed.

Six cursed under her breath and started to pace-it was probably just the rain? For caution, she paced in case.

When she paced-the squishing footsteps had picked up the pace.

Six's pace quickly turned to running-something was definitely following her, t was weird-how come she didn't hear it sooner?!

Six was used to this however, just wasn't used to the andrenaline and shivers rushing her spine everytime something bad happened.

Six ran, nd her eyes darted for a place she can hide or climb out of reach for the thing behind her,her paws swiftly made with the puddles of water under her.

"Hey!!Wait!!"A voice yelled behind her.

Six didn't stop and continued to run,desperately looking for a way to get out of here. Her teeth clenched in fear as she reached another alley. It was dark from further away, but she didn't want to go there-she didn't trust it.

Six knew there was no other way-so she forced herself to run in the dark alley-hoping to find a hole or fence.

Six's heart leaped when she saw a dumpster.

The problem was that it actually wasn't a dumpster, just some green boxes stacked together, this led to nowhere because there was a wall.

Six reached to a dead end.

'No...' Six desperately looked for a way out of here.'No no no no!!!!'Everything trembled-her body and teeth shook as she watched the figure coming to her, a bright light shined through the dense rain and fog-and it blinded her for a second.

"Oh..my god..!!You poor thing...."The figure said-a woman that looked like she was from her 30's.

The figure was just two inches away from her-spreading her arms to grab Six. Six hissed and attempted to scratch her.

The woman stepped back and gasped."I know you're scared...trust me,I'll take good care of you!"The woman said with a cheerful smile.

By now Six was crying, and she pressed her back into the alley way corner.

"Leave me alone..Please!!!'She cried out.

The woman,understanding her fear,frowned at her."I guess I have no choice.."She pulled out a syringe,and walked closer to Six.

Tears blinded Six as the woman swiftly grabbed Six and shot her the syringe.

Six cried out on final time before instantly getting knocked out.

It has always been strange to her.

The fact that she didn't want an owner, even thought it would be paradise if she had one, they feed you, care for you-keep you safe...

Yet she didn't want anyone-nobody to be with her,because she didn't trust anyone.

'Who would even bother taking care of a runaway...?'

Everywhere was warm, strangely enough,very cozy too. The soft material made Six smile in pleasure as she yawned.

'It smells so good too...' She then furrowed her eyebrows.'Wait-since when did I smell something so good??

Six opened her eyes,and blinked softly as she looked around in oblivion. Six stood up and looked down to where she slept. Weirdly enough she slept in a bed,and Six froze as her eyes widened with realization.

'Am I-?"Six's heart ached as she slowly walked around."I'm so confused and glad at the same time..??'Her ears and tail twitched as she heard footsteps from her right, she ran back to the bed and pretended to sleep, her left eye slightly opened so that she could see what was happening.

Six flinched when she heard the same woman's voice again."Kub???Kub??Where are you?"The woman said as she looked around-trying to look for something, and she turned to Six.

Six shut her left eye while her heart raced with panic.' Calm down..!' Six tried to comfort herself, although it wasn't working since it only made her more panicked.

The woman made her way towards Six and reached out a hand. Six flared her eyes open and swifty jumped back, hissing as the hair behind her back and tail stood up.

At the same time, Six spotted another cat, she assumed it was running towards the woman, but then realized that the cat was actually running towards her. The closer the cat got, the bigger it looked like.

Six was paralyzed, she couldn't move nor speak.

The cat slowed down when he saw Six's expression and sat beside the woman.

The cat was really big, bigger than she imagined,what made the cat weird was that he was wearing some sort of paper-bag over his head. His dark brown fur was also covered with patterns, though unlike Six's, he instead had black stripes all over his body and tail, he also had a lot of fur, a lot.

Six hunched her body as she crawled under a nearby couch that for sure the brown cat and woman couldn't fit.

The woman crouched down as she sighed."Look I know you're scared, but please come out-you looked like you haven't eaten anything for days.."

She was right,Six haven't eaten anything for days,the last time she ate was some meat she had stolen from the black market,but that was days ago.As tempting as this sounds, Six didn't dare to move out from there,'Probably never, unless I escape.' Six thought.

The woman whispered to the Maine Coon beside her."Talk to her, Ok..?"She whispered, the Maine Coon nodded as she left.

It was just them now.

Third-person P.O.V

 Six didn't make eye contact, in fact, her whole back was turned on the brown cat,she didn't dare to even speak, all she wanted was to just leave.

The Maine Coon poked his head under the couch,"Hello!"His voice was full of glee,and Six winced internally.

She still didn't speak.

The Maine Coon continued."My master told me to talk to you-you don't look ok.."He said with worry.The cat had noticed earlier when he ran towards her, how skinny and small she looked.

Six growled in annoyance and curled up, making her look 2x smaller than average.

He still kept going."Well, My name is Mono!! What's yours??"

Six still didn't talk, she wasn't planning to either, her teeth clenched and her paws shot out her retractable claws, ready to maul this annoying rat.

And he kept going."If you want to be friends-we can-"

"Shut up."Six growled."I will maul you if you keep on talking, shut it."

Mono stayed silent,he had expected this.But he didn't really care since this cat was smaller than him-how could she possibly kill him?"You can't do that,I'm much bigger and stronger-

"I don't care, just shut up please."Six groaned.

"No." Mono said

"Yes," Six said.

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"No."

Six hesitated.If she could tell her name,maybe he'll just stop talking to her, and then maybe she could escape without him bugging her.

"It's Six."She said after a long pause."Happy now?"

Mono smiled under his paper bag as his bushy tail swayed back and forth."Yes,but you still have to come out!"

"W H A T?"Six deeply growled."I thought that you were just going to leave me alone!"

"Ha, no."Mono said."Just come out please..?Please..?"

"No."Six said.

Mono thought for a moment, he had an idea.

"Oh-feel free to starve, I'm just going to eat some steak then~" Mono said, he pretended to walk away.

'In 3...2...1..-'

"Ok OK!! Fine-just give me some food-I don't care just give me food!"Six yelled. She couldn't help it, how much she tried to resist, she couldn't resist-she had to eat. The thought of eating something so good made her stomach growl and her mouth drool.

Mono smiled in satisfaction as he watched Six slowly come out of her hiding spot, he walked to the kitchen and Six quickly followed him from behind.

The kitchen wasn't far from where Six was at, so once they got there, Mono stood on his hind legs to reach the pan that had the juicy steak, he toppled the pan over the oven, which made a crashing noise.

Six flinched when the crash ringed her ears, but on the other paw, there was a big juicy steak in front of her. Six licked her mouth as Mono slid the big steak to her.

"Dig in."He said

Six didn't hesitate and immediately chowed down the steak. Mono watched her eat, as he did, his stomach growled, and he realized that he too, was hungry. Mono hesitantly went to grab the steak.Six noticed this and hissed at him as she snatched the meat, turning her back on him once again.

"It's mine now."Six bitterly said."Mine."

Mono sadly frowned at her and walked away, his tail and ears drooping.

Six looked up and noticed him. She didn't notice that her ears also had drooped, and she didn't feel like eating the steak either.

Six picked up the meat and followed Mono to a room.

'I can't believe I'm doing this..'

Six had spotted Mono on a blue beanbag, and even though Mono had a paper bag on, she could tell he was sad.

Six trotted over to Mono, who looked at her as she gently placed the meat in front of him. Mono started at her in shock, since he didn't expect her to do this.

"Here.."She mumbled."Take it."

Even though Six's voice was soft and barely a whisper, it was loud enough for Mono to hear her, and he smiled.

"Thank you Six."Mono said as he ate the remaining meat.

Six smiled too, but it faded when she had a thought.'Is this the right thing to do??'

It has been 5 days since she first came here-well, almost a week, But Six liked it-she enjoyed it as well. It was like all her problems went away every time, especially when she was with him...

Mono, her friend, an only friend actually, Six didn't have any other cats to play with her, but Mono was a fun cat to play with. Just something about him makes her chest flutter and her tail wag like a dog.

But the past few days had been fun, especially when Maria, Mono's owner, would pet and rub her tummy late at night, it was the best.

But one thing that bothered her the most was that feeling..Every time Six would see Mono-she goes crazy, almost obsessed, or just happy that she could just forget everything that was happening around her.

Six never felt this before.

Third-person P.O.V

It was nighttime, and the cat duo were on top of a roof, the moon glistered through the night sky like a glowing sphere.The wind had eased,now gently whizzing through the duo.The small but bright stars scattered through the sky.

Mono and Six sat together,bodies both pressed together side by side while staring at the city and it's stars.They were sitting in Mono's bed,and it was perched up high enough for both to see almost the entirty of the city.In all honesty,it was breath-taking.

Mono smiled as he turned to her.

Even with the paper bag on Six knew he was content."The sky looks really nice."

"Haha,yeah."Mono chuckled,back to looking at the stars."I always wonder what's up there,and what awaits for me out there."

His long but bushy tail swished back and forth in wonder."I really never seen anything out there,maybe one day...I'll get to explore out there!"

His voice was full of euphoria and exitement,which Six had never seen from a cat that wanted to out there,out in the open to get killed by the hunter or who knows what.It sickened her,because going out there was suicide.From what she had experienced over the years as a stray,it was absolute chaotic,foul,disgusting and a monstrosity to out there.

But a part of her told herself that Mono never went out there,he's just saying absurd things.

Without thought Six blurted out rage,her tail lashed out."No!Never,ever say that.NEVER!"And when she realized too soon,Mono gave her an alarming look,almost crazed,but had care in his voice."Wait-why?-how is it bad..??On second thought,are you ok???"He examined Six for any out of the ordinary,but Six shook her head.

"Nothing's wrong with me,I'm fine!It's just what you said.."Six trailed off.She didn't know what to say anymore,what for Mono to expect out there,the chaos and hell in the city,and everywhere around her.It was all crazy,full of bloodshed and carnage everywhere.And here she was with a happy house cat that happens to not know the dangers of the outside world.

A silence dreaded the air,forcing Mono to speak."What's wrong with the outside world..?"He whispered as Six looked up and closed her eyes.

"Out there is full of chaos,blood,and death.Everywhere."She said."Going out there-only death and bloodshed is awaiting you there,nothing more.."

Mono was silent due to the fact that everything that Six just mentioned baffled and surprised him;he was shocked,his mouth agape.

When nothing came out of his mouth in response,Six added."It's pratically suicide."She curled up into a ball,flickering her eyes at Mono.

"..But you're not going back there again are you??If you're saying out there is full of death,then you can stay with us..!!With me!"Mono added on that last part.

As much as Six wanted to stay,she couldn't,she didn't belong here,out there,it was her place.Just ever since her previous owner died-

"...Are you..??"Mono said after another long silence filled the air.He also curled up into a ball and faced Six,making eye contact with her as his tail entwined with hers."Six,I need to know-"

".....I'm not a house cat Mono..I don't belong here."Six murmured."I can't stay."Her eyes fought back tears,she didn't want to cry,no.Not in front of her friend.It would feel embarrassing,shaming.

Instead trying to fight back tears,Six just turned her head the opposite way.

"Six,look at me."Mono said.

Six didn't move.

Mono pleaded."Please,look at me."He nudged Six's shoulder with his paw,and in returned she sobbed as she stood up.

"M-mono I c-can't...!!!I-I c-can't stay h-here..!!"She choked."I CAN'T!"Her claws retracted out,accidentaly scratching the bed in such mixture of stress,sadness and anger.

Six was suddenly sweeped up by Mono,who hugged her tightly and shushed her with care.He ran his paw through her back,cooing her and cupping her soft gullible cheeks with his paw.

Mono licked and swiped the tears that Six sobbed over."You're safe here Six,I'll protect you."

'I'll protect you.'

'I'll protect you.'

'I'll protect you.'

'I'll protect you.'

That phrase,it echoed in Six's mind.

When her sobs had died down into whimpers,she finally made her choice.That would probably change her.And she was aware,just something about him,made her want to stay with him,and it sometimes almost took over her,that feeling.It always got her.She had to stay.

"Ok."

"Huh??"

"I'm staying.Just stop hugging me so tight please."Six muffled.

Mono's tail wagged rapidly and unsteadly as he let go of Six and jumped up and down in such happiness that he never felt before.

"WAIT REALLY..??!?!?!"He shouted at her,and Six covered her ears."Don't be too loud!!"She said.

Mono hugged her again,yelling,"You have no idea how much I love you.!!"

Six's body felt stiff,her heart leapt out of her chest,and her tail wagged.There was absolutely no doubt he just said that.

Six began."Mono,I love yo-"

"As a friend.!"Mono interrupted her."I love you as a friend!!"He parted from her,screaming god knows what,meanwhile Six just sat there,absolutely baffled and dissaponted.

'As a friend...'

'As a friend..??'

You have no idea how much I had fun writing this.Not sure if this one shot was good but I tried,and about the drawings.Yeah,I'll post them in the artbook,so DogInATuxedo expect them in a few days or so.
