#1
I slowly wake up. I rub the sleepiness from my eyes before crawling out from underneath the newspaper above me. I pull my black cloak tighter around myself to try and keep out the cold. It'll start snowing soon. The sun is just rising, casting a dim light on my surroundings.
I'm standing in the corner of a dead-end ally, a giant dumpster up against one wall. I only say it's giant because it's not made for me. I'm only as tall as the wheel. I skirt around a puddle while making my way over to a pipe hanging down the side of a building. The pipe has some water leaking out of it and into a drain. It's rain water from the gutter system on the roof. Since it's cleaner then the puddle, I cup my hands and dip them into the water. I drink a few mouthfuls before running to the end of the ally. I peek out behind the wall and see only a blurred figure in the distance, fog obscuring their features.

I decide to hope for the best, and sprint across the road. I count to three before bursting from my hiding spot. My black claok helps me stay hidden as my bare feet pound against the ground. It's probably more like light tapping to anyone bigger then me. I make it to the next ally before anyone spots me. I pant heavily, but manage to catch my breath pretty quickly.
I look around to see that this ally is not a dead end. The other side opens up to another street. Garbage lines the walls, and I can see a rat the same size as me nibbling on rotting meat. I crouch and sneak around it. It could probably eat me if it was hungry enough. I hide behind a card box at the end of the ally before looking out. I immediately jump back, struggling to stay quiet. At least ten of...........them, are out walking in the street. There'll be hundreds on the streets within the hour. I need to find a way across before that happens.
I spot something metal sticking out of the ground. It's a narrow pipe to drain water into the sewers. A meshed hatch is on the outside. It I'm right, it will end back on the other side. I sneak back over to the rat and take a small piece of metal. I quickly back away again. I go over to the rain pipe and set to work on wedging open the door. I grip the hatch on the side and pull as hard as I can. The rusted bolts squeak and strain in protest, but eventually give way. Before i loose my grip, I push the metal forwards with my foot. I let go of the hatch to have to slam onto the metal but. It luckily holds and props the door open.
I quickly crouch and duck into the wet tunnel. Tiny holes dot the bottom of the tunnel, letting water flow down. They're all too small for me to fit through, luckily. I slip out of the end of the pipe and into the next ally. Few, that could of ended badly.
