Chapter 16
Deidre
I did the only thing any normal person will do. I walked up my door, whipped it opened loudly as I stared at the pair in front of me. Invictus blinked several times as he saw me for the first time in weeks, standing in a pair of olive green silk shorts and a black spaghetti strap tank top. My hair was all over my head in a frazzled state. I looked almost crazy.
"Will you two go somewhere else? I can hear you all the way inside of my room. People are trying to sleep." I spat angrily and slammed my door shut. After the door closed, a slow grin made onto my face. I think I handled that pretty well.
There was a faint knock on the door and I knew instantly it was Invictus.
Nope.
Not going to open.
I stalked towards my bed where I crawled under the covers, making sure to tuck myself in before closing my eyes in an attempt to sleep.
"Deidre." His silky voice came on the other side of the door. My heart skipped a beat.
I didn't answer him.
"Open this door before I break it down." He demanded, his voice shaking a little as his impatience was evident now.
Please just leave me alone.
The persistent knocks on the door told me he wasn't going to. It was four in the morning and I had training in two hours. I huffed and threw the covers off; walking to the door I whipped it open. I cocked my hips to the side and folded my arms under my chest. When he didn't speak but only looked at me I arched an eyebrow.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
Seriously.
How about fantastic? Peachy? About to gouge your eyes out?
I shrugged my shoulders to answer his question. When he narrowed his eyes at me and stepped inside the room. I took a step back, wanting the space between us. I was still very angry with him. He was a total jerk. He didn't even call me. He was gone for six whole weeks!
"Little moon."
Oh no. You don't get to little moon me. I wanted to say to him but I kept my mouth shut.
He stalked closer to me. His body stance was vibrating power. His shoulders looked relaxed but the carnal look in his eyes told me otherwise. When his hand came out to caress my cheek, I moved with speed and grabbed his arm and twisting it so that he went flying to the ground. He blinked in astonishment as he found himself flat on his back. I fought a grin and had to turn away to stop myself from revealing how hilarious he looked.
"What the-"He started.
I stomped out of the room barefoot. I might as well go eat breakfast since I was awake now but Invictus was up in a flash and had me pressed against the hallway wall.
"It looks like my little mate here has been training." He whispered as he moved his nose to trace my neck. My hands pinned on top of my head. "You're angry with me."
No. Really? Someone is slow.
"Talk to me, Deidre." He whispered huskily as he nipped my ear, sending a pleasuring twist in my core. I almost moaned.
I shook my head and pushed against his body but it only pressed my breast against his chest. His breathing became shallow at the contact and I can hear his heart beat, moving fast and quickly. His grip on my wrists tightened. I closed my eyes to stop myself from looking at his beautiful face. I missed his face. God and I missed his smell. I hate him though. He was still an a$$. I just realized how conflicted I sound.
My knees came up quickly and hit him in the groin. He doubled over and I took the opportunity to slip past him in a jog I ran down the hall and the steps. I heard him hoarsely call out my name. I wasn't going to give in. He was my mate and in my human definition my boyfriend or soulmate. Therefore, he shouldn't be acting this way.
I made it downstairs to the dining hall to see that Elena was sitting at her end of the table, smiling smugly. Caden and Marc were looking at me surprised. I knew I looked different. My body and even the power inhibit was different. Caden stood up and came over to hug me.
"You are looking stunning as a lycan, Dee." He whispered in my ear. "I love it."
He leads me over to the table and sits me down between Marc and him.
"Good morning, Deidre." Marc said.
"Morning. I am guessing you guys just arrived home." I stated and they both nodded.
"Invictus made us work relentlessly. No sleep. He wanted to come home as soon as possible." Caden muttered bitterly.
Probably because he wanted to see Elena. Jealousy grew inside of me. No, Deidre, you have to be strong. Don't let that lycan get under your skin.
Invictus came into the room soon after along with Mama Kate. They both sat down in their usual spot but Invictus was throwing glares at me.
"So, how did your mission go?" Mama Kate asked as she ate her breakfast.
"We couldn't find him. He hid himself well. I think he knows we are on to him." Invictus responded, his eyes still on me. I pretended to eat my oatmeal.
"Oh, then why are you back so early?" Mama Kate asked, her voice held a pretend curiosity I have discovered all too well.
"It is because he missed Elena." I stated as I looked up from my bowl to Mama Kate. She looked at me surprised. I shrugged. "I did see them talking in the hallway."
"Deidre." Invictus growled lowly.
I turned to Caden. "Since now I have learned a lot more than I did several weeks ago about lycans. I have discovered that if our destined mate does not want us, I can find another male lycan who is free and have fun with him."
I scooted closer to Caden and wrapped both arms around his waist as I looked up at him in what I hope was a flirtatious manner.
"Caden, baby, how about you and I spend our time together these next few days? I have been very lonely." I purred.
Caden chuckled and wrapped an arm around my shoulder as he leaned in to whisper in my ear. "You owe me, Dee."
Invictus was up from his seat in a flash as he ripped Caden away from me. He grabbed my arm and pulled me up. I tried pulling my arm away to go to Caden but Invictus warning growl told me he was close to losing control. I huffed and crossed my arms under my breast as I tapped my foot.
"No other man is to touch what is mine." Invictus grounded out.
"Let her go to Caden if that is what she wants. You deserve better." Elena spoke as she sauntered up and wrapped her arms around Invictus's arm. "How about you come to my bed and I give you a good massage, just like old times."
Fury raged through my veins. I clenched my fist tightly that I can feel the pain of my nails digging into my palm. I wanted to kill her but instead I put on a blank face and turned to face them.
"Well there you go, Invictus. Congratulations, you found yourself someone to replace what is yours." I said calmly as I yanked my arm out of his grasp.
"Deidre." He roared.
Mama Kate stood up then. "Invictus. Come here."
Invictus black pool eyes turned towards his mother but he wasn't listening. He turned to me and his voice transformed into a deadly tone that even made my spine tingled with fear.
"I'll kill him." He turned towards Caden.
Oh no. This wasn't what I wanted.
Invictus let go of my arm. In a flash he had Caden up in the air by the throat. Caden tried getting away from Invictus but his attempt was a little useless. I shouted Invictus name but he didn't hear me. With no more options in mind, I moved in between them and grabbed at Invictus's arm.
"Let him go, you idiot." I growled as I yanked hard on his arm but he held on Caden's throat tight.
Damn it.
Elena was whining behind in the background about why are they fighting over me. I let go of Invictus's arm and grabbed his cheeks.
"Invictus, look at me." He wouldn't tear his gaze from Caden. "Invictus!"
"Get him off Caden now!" Mama Kate ordered.
Marc quickly moved towards us but I had other things on my mind. I grabbed his cheek and brought his face down as my lips met his. Invictus froze. I took in his lower lip as I began sucking on it. A rumble was heard from his chest as I heard him drop Caden and wrap his arms around me.
He took control of my kiss. His lips sucked and licked every part of my lip and mouth. He was making me know just who I belong too. A slow ache was building between my legs. When I felt all the tension left his body, I pulled back, only to have his lips followed.
"Invictus." I whispered.
"Mine." He said as he kissed me again firmly.
I pushed away from his chest to give us more room. Elena was glowering at us. Caden was coughing and backing away. Instantly, I felt bad, I moved to go and help him up but Invictus grabbed my wrist.
"You will not touch him." He commanded.
I yanked on my hand. "He's my friend."
"I don't care. I will not let you be his." He said as his voice started rising.
"Let her go, Invictus." Mama Kate ordered. Invictus reluctantly released me. I moved a few feet away from him.
"You and I need to talk, Invictus." Mama Kate ordered as she waved her son to follow her.
