Opening Up

It had been a few days after Six's twenty-first birthday, the diner worker hard at work like every any day ever since.

The morning sunshine shined down on the small town she lived in, the small ringing of a cat's bell sounding next to her as she walked down the sidewalk. The ginger tabby tom walked step by step with her, tail and head held high.

Six didn't pay all the much attention to where she was going, looking at the book she held in her hand as she made her way to work. Her yellow hoodie was slightly baggy on her, black pants and white shoes finishing her looks.

Milo turned a corner, the young adult turning and following the sound of his bell.

"Nemera, we can't be together, think of the children!" Edria shouted, gripping the princess by her shoulder and shaking her violently.

"Edria, I swear if I didn't love your character I'd write a letter to the author and personally ask him to remove you," Six muttered.

Milo jumped turned again, sitting in front of the diner's door. He looked up, his tail flicking at his owner, a silent, 'We're here, genius, now where is my treat?'

Six closed her book, slipping it into her bag. In return, she pulled a small plastic bag out that had a few cat treats in them. Milo let out a purr at seeing his prize, sitting up on his haunches as a trick. The waitress chuckled, giving the treat to the feline.

Giving him a scratch behind his ear, Six got up, opening the diner door. "Sorry I'm late!"

"Oh there you are!" Two's voice sounded behind the counter, jumping up. She wore the diner's uniform, hers being a lime green color. A white frilly apron hung around her shoulder and waist around her slim waist.

Three walked out, dressed in her own uniform. It was a pastel orange with the same white apron as Two's. Her hair was put up in a messy bun, showing off her steel blue eyes.

Costumers were sitting at the tables and bar, sharing small talk over their food and hot coffee.

A young man wearing an uniform similar to Two's looked over. He wore a smaller apron tied around his waist, a notepad in hand.

"Six, what's the special pie of the day?" He asked, scribbling down a gentleman's order.

"Deep dish blueberry bacon, don't worry, I'll have it done in just a second, Five!" Six called back, walking to the back of the diner. She slipped her yellow hoodie off, throwing and tying her apron around.

Hers was a pastel yellow color, frilly white apron matching her co-workers. She slipped on a pair of flats, walking out to the main room.

It was a carbon copy of an old routine, days coming in and out, like a broken record.

"And make that coffee strong enough to chew," said an older man. Ole Mr. Rodger was seated at a table, looking up to the waiter. Rodger was official owner of the diner, a kind yet hard working old man.

His eyes were weak, cloudy from old age. He kept himself well dressed, sporting a nice dress shirt with even creases and buttoned sleeves. He was a bit on the shorter side, arms longer then the rest of his body it seemed like.

Six took the coffee pot off the burner, coming over and pouring him a cup. "I don't think chewing a drink is a good sign, Mr. Rodger," she teased.

"Is that my favorite little pie maker I hear? How are you today?" he asked, reaching a hand out to grab his cup of hot coffee.

"A little under the weather but I think it's just a small lil' stomach bug, but nothin' is stopping me today," Six chimed, handing the coffee pot to Five.

The dirty blond to the pot, walking off to handle another order.

Old Mr. Rodger shook his head. "Sometimes seeing you work so hard makes me wonder how you're not promoted to manager," he muttered.

"As long as I can make a few other happy with full bellies, we're all good, Mr. Rodger."

The sound of a bell made the waitress turn.

"Hello!" Greeted Two, coming over to take them to their seats. The couple followed her, the man smiling. "Hello."

"How ya been?" Two set the menus in front of them.

The bells chimed once more, Three waving to the people leaving.

"Thank you, come again!" She said, before going back to work one cleaning the counter top. Six gave a small sigh, something never change it seemed like.

Though it wasn't normally always a happy ending some days, it was better then nothing. Her and her co-workers were family, better then her actual one.

Six went to turn, nearly running into Five, who held a tray above his head. "Order up!"

She stepped to the side, nearly spinning into the bar. "Six, table four needs orders taken, then you can go get to work on some pies," Three said, taking a cup off of Two's tray as the smaller squeezed by and took a sip.

Three to a notepad, tossing it to her. The waitress caught it, pulling a pen from her pocket. "On it!" she said, ducking as Five turned around again with his tray.

"Oh, sorry, Six!" he said, stepping out of the way for her. Six gave a small chuckle. "It's all good, just please be careful."

"Right, I will!" he answered with a bright grin.

The made her way, pad in hand. "Hello, welcome to-" Six suddenly stopped, a familiar coil in her stomach. Her eyes widen, dropping her pad and ran to the side corridor, nearly hitting Two in the face as she flung the bathroom door open.

She flung herself into the first open stall, bile splashing and burning her throat just as she got her head to the toilet seat.

The door opened, the soft shuffling of feet nearly drowned out from the hurling. "Six, honey, you okay?" Asked Three, standing outside.

Six waited a moment, panting heavily as she tried to recover from her vomiting. She cringed at the taste in her mouth, getting up from the ground.

"Fine as a whistle, just a stomach bug," she answered, washing her hands and mouth at the sink.

With glances towards one another, Two and Three shared the same look, the: 'I think this may be a bit bigger then that' look.

Three gave a sigh, reaching into her pocket. "Six, I'm gonna be honest with ya, I bought this the day after you came back with a few hickeys..."

The young woman turned, her blood freezing as her eyes stared at the pink box in Three's hand.

A pregnancy test.

Finished - Sept. 22nd/23rd

This took me a bit of time, sorry about that. I had a small crisis earlier this week, which made me really depressed recently.

I don't want to go into details, but the problem has been straightened out after a small misunderstanding was cleared up. I will try to be on more active, with a job and school, things have been a little crazy.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed!

*small internal screaming of me trying to figure out how to do Potterman's Pie and Bad Idea*

Take care!
