Chapter Twenty One

Danielle's P.O.V

"I'm guessing you two don't want to talk about things." Andrea says, looking between the both of us in the mirror above her head. I shake my head and glance over at Cole who is just staring out the window. When Andrea looks back at the road, I reach over at grab Cole's hand, rubbing my thumb over it. He glances over at me and sends me a small smile before looking back out the window.

Because it is only Andrea in the car and my mom isn't constantly watching Cole and I in the mirror like a creep since she is driving my car back home, I decide to move over a little.

What? I am sitting in the middle seat in the back of the car and I am feeling quite tired... so you can't blame me!

I lean against Cole, my eyes slipping shut. Cole let's out a sigh and wraps an arm around me, making me more comfortable.

"Hey Cole," I begin, my eyes opening. "Did you call the police?" I whisper and Cole looks down at me for a split second before looking back out the window.

"Maybe..." Cole says and I nod slowly. After a few seconds of driving in silence, I close my eyes again and decide to talk.

"You okay?" I whisper to Cole, not bothering to open my eyes. Cole begins to draw circles on the palm on my hand since I stopped rubbing his hand and rests his chin on my head.

"Yeah, I guess. What about you?" Cole whispers back and I open my eyes and smile.

"Much better now that I don't have to worry about that asshole killing anyone else." I say and Cole nods.

"True."

"So, you two hungry? I mean, I am aware that you two should've been at school and I shouldn't be giving you food but I am starving." Andrea comments and I chuckle.

"Only if it's fast food." I grin and Andrea looks at me in the mirror and grins back at me.

"You know it."

After buying some greasy and unhealthy food, saying goodbye to our mother's since they have to go back to work and watching a few hours of television, it is now nine o'clock and after a stressful day, Cole and I decided that it is time to just lay down in my bed and relax.

What ever dirty thoughts you have in your head right now... get rid of them because by 'relax and lay down in my bed', I didn't mean anything sexual.

I let out a sigh and wrap my arm around Cole's torso, looking up at his face. When I notice that his eyes are closed, I roll my eyes.

"You did not just fall asleep..." I mutter, getting up and looking down at Cole's face properly. I raise my eyebrow and flick his nose, watching as Cole doesn't move at all.

Oh, that asshole.

Suddenly, an idea pops into my head and I grin, getting off of my bed and walking out of my room. I run upstairs to the bathroom and grab the main tool that I need and run down the stairs and back into my room. I look over at Cole's sleeping figure and sigh.

"I have been such a bitch to you." I say, walking over to my bed. "But... who says I'm going to stop?" I ask, bringing out the tweezers and placing them on the side of the bed before getting on top of him. I place my warm hands on his stomach and watch as Cole let's out a sigh.

"Oh, baby..." Cole mumbles, his voice raspy and low. I hold in a laugh and grab the tweezers, pointing them at Cole.

"I have been waiting to try this for a long, long time." I say before placing the end of the tweezers in his nose and squeezing it before ripping the hair out of his nose. Cole let's out a scream and shoots up, his head raising up and hitting me with it.

"Oh fuck," I curse, falling off of the bed and landing on the air mattress. I hold my head and groan, rubbing it furiously.

I swear this feels like the time I headbutted Cole when he brought a girl home... but the other way around.

Cole headbutted me!

"My nose and my head hurts so much." Cole groans and I roll my eyes.

"Are you bleeding?" I ask and Cole shakes his head. I stand up and walk over to the mirror.

"Well, if I am not mistaken, I'm pretty sure I have blood coming out of my forehead." I say and before I can grab something to help stop the bleeding, I fall to the ground. I see Cole's figure climb off the bed and rush to me but when I feel my whole body go numb, I know he can't do anything.

"My head..." I mumble before passing out.

I hear the doorbell ring and I gasp, jumping up from the seat on the couch and run over to the door. Dad's home! I grab the door handle and pull it open to see my father standing there in his work uniform.

I smile and immediately hug my father, breathing in the scent of his cologne. I hear my mom chuckle behind me and my father kisses the top of my head. I let go of him and let him walk into the house. Just as I expected, he walks over to where my mom stands and a wide grin breaks onto my father's face. He grabs my mom's hips and pulls her close to him. Before I can even see what I know is going to happen, I turn around and look outside to see my father's car parked in front of the house. I am fifteen but that doesn't mean I want to see my mom and dad suck each other's faces off.

After a few seconds of staring outside, I finally build the courage to turn around. "Okay you two can break it up now. I'm suppose to be getting all of the love since it is my birthday." I chime in and my mom pulls away from my father, her cheeks red.

My father nods and clicks his fingers, walking towards the door. "That reminds me..." My father says before walking out to the car. I can't help but follow him outside and I hear my mom's heels click against the concrete, following behind me.

I watch as my father opens his car door, looking in the car for something. When he pulls out a white shopping bag and a small blue box, I instantly know that it belongs to me.

My father closes his car door and hands the white bag to my mom and she walks inside. I'm guessing that is the cake. My father looks at me and hands the box to me, a small smile on his face.

"Your birthday present..." My father says and I grab it, not taking any time to wait. As I open it, a gasp escapes my mouth.

"Its the one I wanted!" I say and look up at my father in shock. My father smiles and nod, reaching into the box to grab out the necklace that is in there. He holds the silver necklace in his fingers and tells me to turn so he can put in on. With the box still in my hands, I do as I am told and turn, feeling my father's hands brush against my neck as he clips it together.

When he pats my shoulder, saying that he is finished, I spin around and hug my father once again. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I say and my father laughs.

"Your welcome. Now, let's go and take a look at that cake, shall we?" My father suggests and I nod, immediately running inside. My hands go up to the necklace and I run my hands over the part where it has my nickname in cursive.

Elle.

I run into the kitchen to see my mom looking down at something that is on the counter, her lips in a frown. I walk over to my mom and frown at her.

"Something wrong?" I ask and my mom let's out a sigh. She doesn't reply. Instead, she turns to look at my father who is just entering the kitchen. I look between the two and listen to what my mom has to say to my father.

"The cake that we ordered... this isn't the cake." My mom says and my father frowns, walking over to where the cake is. He looks down at it and nods.

"Thats definitely not the cake we ordered." My father says and I walk over to where my parents are standing and take a look at the cake myself. I frown when I read the words on the cake.

'Hope you get better soon, Annie!'

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "We have to go give it back." I say and my father nods.

"I agree." My father says and before he can grab the cake, my mom stops him.

"No, this cake is fine. It may not say the words 'happy birthday' but at least it is still a cake." My mom says and my frown deepens.

"But this isn't the cake that you ordered. I'm not unwell or dying so I don't think I have a cake that says 'get well soon'. Besides, last time I checked, I'm not Annie." I say and my mom sends me a glare.

"Stop being so ungrateful, Danielle. Chances are, if we hand it back, the other person obviously has our cake." My mom says and I narrow my eyes at her.

"And they will be doing the exact same thing and be handing it back too." I say and my mom grits her teeth in annoyance.

"You get what you are given so stop complaining. If you really don't want a cake that has 'get well soon' on it then I will just make a cake with the ingredients that I have." My mom replies, her voice showing nothing but irritation. Before I can bite back with a reply, my father steps in, letting out a sigh.

"Its okay, girls. I will just go and buy one from the store." My father says and I nod, a smile forming on my face. I point at my father and send a glare at my mom.

"See? Dad gets the point. Why don't you?" I ask and my mom ignores me, turning around to put the cake back in the bag. She gives the bag to my father and gives him a short peck on the lips.

"Don't take to long." My mom says, a small smile appearing on her face and my father places a hand on her shoulder.

"You know I won't." My father says and he looks over at me, his smile widening.

"Chocolate or vanilla?" He asks, hoping that I will change my mind and say vanilla for once but I shake my head.

"Chocolate rules, dad." I say and my father let's out a sigh. He walks towards me, places a kiss on my forehead and walks out of the kitchen.

"Don't have too much fun without me!" My father says to the both of us and my mom exits the kitchen, rolling her eyes at my father playfully.

"Go sit on a stick." My mom says and my father winks at her.

"Thats your job." My father says and I hold myself back from throwing up all over the floor. My father sends me a small smile and waves.

"Love you, Elle." My father says and I wave at him, my own smile spreading across my face as I stand beside my mom.

"Love you too, dad."

All of a sudden, I feel a warm hand on my cheek and I gasp, shooting up from my laying position on the... couch?

I look at Cole who is kneeling beside me, his face evident of shock and confusion. "Nightmare?" He asks and I shake my head, looking down at my hands.

Why did I have to dream about the day my father died?

"No." I mumble and Cole's frown deepens.

"Then why did you keep turning and frowning in your sleep?" Cole asks and I look over at him and frown.

"No idea." I say and before Cole can push on the subject, I quickly change it. "What happened?" I ask and Cole runs a hand through his hair.

"I sort of headbutted you and you passed out." Cole says and I roll my eyes.

"I know that, dumbass. I mean, what happened while I was out?" I ask and Cole chuckles.

"Oh. Uh, I cleaned up the cut on your forehead and just laid you down on the couch since your bedroom was a mess." Cole says and I raise an eyebrow.

"Why is my room a mess?" I ask and Cole scratches the back of his neck nervously.

"I sort of tripped and everything on your shelf went everywhere. I didn't have time to clean it up because I was too focused on getting you to the couch." Cole says and my eyes widen.

"You... dropped me?" I ask, my jaw dropping and Cole sighs.

"I didn't mean to. I'm sorry. I just forgot that the airbed was on the floor." Cole says and I scowl at him.

"And I was about to compliment you on the fact that you helped me."
