Danielle's P.O.V

I walk into the school building with a small smile on my face. When Maya looks over at me and sees the mood that I am in, her eyebrows furrow in confusion as to why her moody best friend is happy in the morning.

By the way, I don't even know why I am this happy. Maybe it is because I have figured out that I like Cole or maybe it's because I am just happy to be at school.

Ha, happy to be at school? Yeah, I don't think so.

I send her a wave and open my locker, beginning to take out my books that I left here yesterday. Maya leans her arm against the locker beside mine and frowns at me.

"Okay, who are you and what have you done with my best friend?" Maya asks and I slam my locker shut and turn to Maya, my smile not fading.

"Good morning to you too, Maya." I say happily, not really bothering to say a sarcastic remark. As I begin to walk down the hallway towards my first class, Maya runs up to me and stops in front of me.

"Danielle..." Maya starts, the frown spreading a little more. "What the hell happened?" Maya asks and I shrug, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Is it normal for me to be happy?" I ask and Maya narrows her eyes at me.

"It is normal for you to happy? Your damn right it is!" Maya says in a low tone and I roll my eyes, walking around Maya and continuing my walk towards my first class. Once again, Maya stops me by pushing my up against the lockers, making sure to not hurt me in the process.

"Tell me what happened otherwise I will tell everyone that you are secretly sleeping with Cole." Maya threatens and the smile on my face widens. Maya notices this and her eyes widen in horror.

"Your sleeping with Cole?" Maya shouts and I cover my hand over her mouth to shut her up.

"Maya, it was a one time thing. We were both vulnerable and... yeah." I explain but Maya isn't having any of it. She pulls my hand away from her mouth and stares into my green eyes.

"Vulnerable or not, you still had sex with the player! The freaking player, Danielle!" Maya scowls and before I can say a word, a certain boy appears beside the both of us, looking at us with a small grin.

"Well, I didn't know you swung for the other team, Maya." Cole says and Maya turns to Cole and pushes him against the locker.

"You listen here, you demented brown haired fuck boy," Maya growls and I can't help but roll my eyes at her insult. "You stay away from my best friend." Maya says and Cole raises his eyebrow at her.

"And if I don't?" Cole asks, glancing over at me and I can't help but smile. Maya grabs the collar of Cole's shirt and pulls his face down to hers.

"I will put you in a hospital bed." Maya says and Cole looks over at me again and sends me a small smirk.

"You better visit me, Danielle." Cole says and I roll my eyes in humor as Maya looks at the both of us in disgust. The warning bell rings and Maya steps away from Cole.

"I mean it, Cole." Maya says before walking off and I burst out laughing when Cole fixes his shirt.

"Is she usually this jealous?" Cole asks and I shake my head, wiping the tears away from the corner of my eyes. Cole wraps an arm around my shoulders as we begin to walk to class.

"Did you bring the assignment?" Cole asks and I nod, holding the sheets close to my chest.

"Yeah. Now since I did most of the work, your explaining what we did to the teacher."

I tap the pencil on my book, resting my chin on my hand as I continue to think. I know I like Cole but did I really have to push every bit of anger away so I can just feel human again? Did I have to sleep with the player? I mean, I know it was my decision but why do I have a feeling that I rushed everything? Like, I only like him... I don't love him.

"Danielle!"

Speak of the devil...

I look up and send Cole a small smile as I continue to tap the pencil on my book. Cole takes the seat in front of me and grins, resting his arms on the table as he looks at me.

"Whats up?" I ask, setting the pencil aside. Cole grabs something out of his pocket and shakes it in his hand.

"Wanna come with me to the lake?" Cole asks and I look at the keys, deciding if I should ditch school.

"What about Maya?" I ask and Cole shrugs.

"Who cares?" Cole asks and I frown at him.

"I do. I don't want to leave her alone here just because you want me to go to the lake with you." I say and Cole shrugs again.

"Okay then. I was only asking." Cole says, standing up and before he can walk away, my arm seems to reach out for Cole's arm without my permission, grabbing onto his hand like my life depended on it.

Ah, now there's a funny joke.

"I'll go." I manage to say and Cole smirks, nodding.

"Well, let's go then."

I sit at the edge of the lake, looking down at the fish that are spinning around in the water. Cole hums beside me and I turn to him, slightly annoyed by the humming.

"Shut up." I say and Cole raises his eyebrow at me.

"Excuse me?" He asks and I poke his shoulder.

"Your humming is annoying." I say and Cole rolls his eyes.

"Ask me if I care." Cole says and I smirk.

"Do you care?" I ask and Cole shakes his head, bringing his knees up to his chin.

"Nah." He says with a small grin and I roll my eyes, the small smile making its way onto my face. As we sit in silence for a few minutes, a thought appears in my mind and I turn to Cole.

"Why do you hate Joshua?" I ask and Cole doesn't bother to turn to me, he just shrugs.

"Reasons." He replies and I groan.

"Just tell me." I say and Cole turns to me with a small eyebrow raised.

"Why did you hate him?" Cole asks and I shake my head, looking back at the lake.

"Don't turn this back on me." I say and Cole let's out a chuckle.

"Just did." Cole replies and I turn to him again and furrow my eyebrows at him.

"Do you always change the subject?" I ask and Cole nods.

"If I don't want to talk about something, I will change the subject so take a stab in the dark and guess why I don't want to talk about Joshua?" Cole says and I smirk, bringing my knees up to my chin and wrapping my arms around my legs.

"Because your jealous." I mumble and Cole turns to me and frowns.

"How many times do I have to tell you I'm not jealous?" Cole asks furiously and I smile at him.

"Now you know how I felt." I say and Cole rolls his eyes.

"Whatever." He says and stands up, beginning to walk away from me. I frown and jump up, running over to Cole.

"Dude, what the hell?"

"Go away, Danielle." He says, turning to the parking lot and walking towards the car. I chase after him and when I reach him, I grab his shoulder and spin him around, getting slightly annoyed with his sudden mood change.

"Why the fuck do you have to be such an ass? Just tell me why!" I shout in frustration and Cole stares at me before narrowing his eyes.

"I'm an open book, Danielle. You should already know." Cole says and my eyes widen.

"An open book? You run away everytime something you don't want to hear is said so you can go shove your open book this up your ass and tell me what the hell is going on between you two!" I shout again and Cole grips at my hand, opens the car door and pushes me in the car. he walks around and gets in the car, starting the engine.

"You want to know? Fine." Cole says and I put my seat belt on as he begins to speed into the direction of our house.
