Chapter 26: Infiltrate
"Alright, guys I'm almost there." Said Pidge as she maneuvered through the ventilation system to get to the main fuse box. "Gah!" She yelped when she almost fell over the edge when she reached the end.
"Pidge are you okay?" Shiro was the first to ask.
"Yeah, I reached the end but the fuse box is a bit farther away than I imagined." She sweat-dropped seeing that it was at the other end of the room and there were soldiers below, she took another look at them, and somehow, they seemed somewhat different. "Guess I've got one shot at this." She said mostly to herself. She noticed the pipes on the roof and used those to hook her Bayard there and swung herself to the other side without being noticed. She then started to plug and unplugged different wires.
"Okay, security cameras are down and all communication is nulled."
"Roger that, we're coming in." Answered Shiro as he started to drive his lion over the facility. Shiro's lion got the update and had the cloaking mechanism all thanks to you. The others were supposed to get the same but you left before you could add the feature.
Hunk, Lance, Shiro, and Keith got out of the Black Lion and stealthily made their way in.
"Alright Pidge, we're inside, lead the way." Hearing Shiro's cue, Pidge opened up the map she just downloaded of the schematics of the place.
"Whoa, this place has like 4 floors." She mumbled to herself, amazed by how complex it was. "Okay so basically Lance you head for the first floor and hunk goes for the second, Keith you're with Shiro on the forth--its the biggest--and I'll take the third. I'm sending the layout of the place now." And just as she said, there was a small ping signaling that everyone got the map.
"Alright team, be very careful, this place is crawling with soldiers, don't want anyone getting found out." Everyone nodded in agreement and started going their separate ways. Keith and Shiro started jogging down the hall and slowed down at intersections and corners.
"-yeah the security systems down, they said they're sending Vrax over there now to fix it." They overheard two soldiers talking.
"Did you hear that Pidge?" Shiro asked through his helmet communicator.
"Yeah, I'll keep an eye on that."
"Then I'll go to the fourth floor, Keith you head to the third." He instructed.
"Sure." Keith didn't waste time and started sprinting down the halls, careful not to get caught. "Hey guys," Keith began as he took a break to let the guards pass.
"What's up? Did they find you? We're we caught? Are they coming for us???" Asked Hunk all paranoid.
"Huh? No! Have you guys noticed that the centuries and the soldiers look a bit... different?" Keith peeked around the corner to get a good look at their uniform. It was still armor but it wasn't glowing purple, more like a dark Red.
"Yeah, you're right..." Added Lance as he hid behind a pillar with his Bayard at hand. "Are you guys sure we're in the right prison?"
"I'm sure of it." Interjected Allura all of a sudden. Everyone kept going along with the original plan and made their way down corridors to head over to the main prison cells. "But I don't know why they look like that."
"Maybe they wanted an outfit change since Zarkon's gone?" Lance shrugged his shoulders as if they could see him.
"Yes Lance, because that's the most important part of conquering the universe," Pidge said with sarcasm.
"Hey, I was just-"
"Everyone focus!" Keith whisper yelled. "That doesn't matter now, we have to get those prisoners out. " Keith knew he couldn't just take the elevator so he had to opt for going through the air vents.
He finally reached the third level and steadily made his way to the prison cell but noticed that it was a lot more extensive than he thought.
"Pidge I thought you said that the fourth floor was the biggest." He questioned.
"It is. Unless..." Pidge got thinking and then went wide-eyed. "Keith, connect the cables from the forearm of your suit to one of the electrical panels." She instructed. Keith did as she said and Pidge worked her magic as she received new information.
"Pidge?" Keith spoke up.
"Damn, it looks like they hid some parts of the map, I'm sending you a new one. Everyone else do the same so I can send the maps of each level." Keith then removed the cable and looked at the layout of the floor.
"Aw crap." He cursed seeing how complicated it was.
"I think I heard something over here." Keith overheard. The soldier's shadows could easily be seen around the corner, meaning he had no time to put the panel back.
Keith ran to the other side in hopes that they didn't find him before he could even get to the prison cells.
"That panels down!" One of them stated the obvious.
"I'll contact the main guards now." Keith noticed that the guards had a diamond-shaped communicator like the one Eslen had. "We have Intruders, I repeat, we have intruders. Everyone on high alert."
"Hey was anyone caught???" Hunk asked starting to panic.
"Wasn't me. But I bet it was probably Keith's fault." Lance accused. Keith was about to respond but he didn't know what to say since it was technically his fault.
"All they saw was the panel that was on the ground, they didn't see me."
"So it was you!"
"Lance, that doesn't matter now, every stay on your toes, they still don't know it's us so continue with the plan." Shiro instructed.
Everyone agreed and went back to work. Keith was a bit backtracked but eventually made it to the main prison cell.
"Pidge I'm here, what do I do?"
"Scan the security system and send it to me." Keith did as told and Pidge did her best to find out how to get the damn door open but it was going to be a lot harder than she thought.
"Keith you're gonna need to get a face scan and fingerprint for this." Keith sighed seeing how this plan just kept getting more complicated by the second.
Suddenly footsteps were heard down the hall.
"Looks like I'll be getting that scan for us." Keith started climbing the walls so he would be high enough to not be seen. He waited for the right moment to attack but the soldier started walking back.
I guess it's now or never.
Keith leaped forward and tackled the solder to the ground instantly knocking him unconscious.
That worked out better than I thought.
He picked him and scanned his face and then took the fingerprint.
"Sending it now." Pidge immediately got it and started rendering a 3D form.
"Alright guys, I got the key, I'm sending it now." And just like that Keith got the 3D form.
"Here goes nothing." He let the face and finger get scanned but a loud alarm started to sound all of a sudden. "What the?!"
"What's going on?" Shiro was the first to ask.
"I don't know I just put the face and finger scan thing but-" Keith stopped himself and realized something. He ran over to the soldier and looked at the chest plate and remember the ones from the other soldiers. "You've gotta be kidding me!" Keith tossed him back to the ground.
"Talk to me Keith." Shiro urged.
"They have rankings and I think I took the scan of the lowest one!" Keith kicked the guy in frustration.
"Looks like we're just gonna have to wing it."
"What do you mean Shi-?" There was a loud crash heard on the other end. "Shiro??"
Shiro then shared a video of what he was seeing at the moment.
"You blew up the lock?!" Lance exclaimed in shock.
"We've gotta do this quick, we don't have much time." Was all he answered before heading back to the original plan.
"Now this is more my style." Keith smirked and took out his Bayard. He slashed at the controls, letting the heavy metal doors slide open.
"There he is!" About four soldiers started shooting that Keith making him open his shield.
"Allura I'm gonna need one of the pods over here!"
"Roger that!" Allura started to deploy the pods, letting them head towards the different floors and provided aerial support to make sure they got there safely. "They're on their way." Allura sent the location of the pod that was in its way.
"Thanks." Keith calculated where it would appear and started to direct the prisoners. "Everyone head down the hall and don't look back, there will be a pod waiting." Keith knew for certain that there wouldn't be anyone to escort them as they ran down the hall so he focused on defending the main door.
He could hear the constant footsteps behind sprint towards their freedom as he fought the soldiers one after the other and taking them down. Thankfully by the time he got them the rest had left already.
He tracked down the pod and he could see it was already heading out.
"Wait!" Keith froze in place. "Please help us!" They shouted.
Keith ran back into the cell seeing how enormous it really was. There were three people still inside, two of them heavily injured.
"They need help, please." A skinny girl with dirty brown hair pleaded. Keith's eyebrows furrowed in worry.
How the hell am I gonna get them out now?
