Chapter 24: The beginning of the end
Your head felt fuzzy, your body felt heavy and yet all your old memories from so long ago were coming back crystal clear.
You shot open your eyes only to shut them again from the bright light.
"I've gotta get the..." You mumbled as you tried to open your eyes once more. They steadily adjusted and soon you could recognize the face that was in front of you.
"Keith?" You said out loud.
"They said one more hour..." He mumbled barely above a whisper. Then you realized.
"Where's everyone!" You tried to get up but your body protested in pain, and of course, the handcuffs that chained you to a pole didn't help much. "Wha-what's going on Keith!" You tugged on your wrists to try and free yourself but to no avail.
"Calm down Y/n, they're just-" You tuned him out when you notice the big screen behind him. It was monitoring everything that was happening. And there they were, Lotor, Shiro, Allura, and Pidge already handing over the coordinates and Pidge's father walking towards them.
"Keith let me go." You said urgently with wide-eyes.
"Y/n, I'm sorry but-"
"Keith those coordinates aren't real!" You shouted feeling the panic rise with every passing second.
"What?? What are you talking about? We checked them and-"
"I set that place up a long time ago! It's not real and Zarkon's gonna notice!" You pulled and yanked trying to break free but Keith decided to head over to the controls to warn the others but all he could hear was static.
"Shiro! Allura! Pidge! Retreat! Go back! The coordinates aren't real! It's a fake! Get out of there!" He shouted but no one answered and the only thing you could do was watch as they were halfway through the trade but at one point Zarkon wrinkled the paper in his hands and threw it to the floor.
You could see the others panicking and rushing to get Sam out of there.
You were enraged and all you could do was watch as Zarkon began his fight.
"Keith." You spoke up. He flinched at the different deadly tone in your voice but eventually turned to look at you. "Let me go." You said it as if it were a warning.
"They...They have this under control, you could get hurt and-"
"LET. ME. GO!" You shouted glaring daggers at him. "This was a huge risk and none of you trusted me, if only you guys would have just listened to me!" You shouted before summoning your blades to your hands and cut the chains off.
Why didn't I think about that before?
Either way, deep down you knew you wouldn't have gotten there in time even if you were freed earlier.
"Listened to you?! Why didn't you tell us in the first place that they were a fake!" Keith shouted back.
"Because I was protecting something important! But it was all in vain because of you idiots!" Your knuckles started turning white from the tight grip you had on your blades.
"Because of us?!" Keith could feel his anger rise and walked right up to you. "It's because you don't trust us that this happened! If only you weren't so stubborn-"
"Stubborn?! Listen here mullet head, stop trying to act as if you know me because you don't! I've gone through hell and back! You know nothing about what I went through to keep that stupid thing safe and now..." You stopped yourself and glared at the ground.
"And now what Y/n?!" Keith demanded. You turned your back to him and started walking towards the door.
"I'm going to go clean up the mess you traitors made."
~
You landed on the ground, weapon at hand and you could see in the distance Lotor and Zarkon.
There was only one thing on your mind and your goal was crystal clear. This was the only way to end his reign. You took a step backward and readied your two swords.
Breath in, then out.
And in a millisecond, you were racing down the desert grounds of Dibazal with your target locked.
You could see Lotor noticed you coming with his eyes wide.
"Y/n get away from here!" He shouted as he dodged an attack.
"Like hell I am!" You shouted as you tried to land a blow on Zarkon only to be blocked by his arm.
"How touching, a little girl coming to aid the likes of you." Zarkon said as he threw a punch towards you but missed.
"I have this handled, leave!" Lotor commanded.
Everyone stood back at least a good 3 meters away from each other and took the time to catch their breath. You took the chance to look over at Lotor and glare at him.
"You get in my way and I won't hesitate in killing you too!" You spat, venom lacing every word. Right after that, you impulsed yourself forward towards Zarkon with your blades at hand.
Lotor was more than shocked and could see the bloodthirsty look in your eyes.
You almost looked Galran.
"Lotor let her go." Keith spoke through the communicator. Lotors eyes widened.
"Are you insane?! He'll kill her!"
"And she'll kill you if you don't back off! I've seen what she can do and I suggest you listen to her!" Keith advised. Lotor looked back at your fight with Zarkon.
"We need you here as aerial support, it's as if he's called his whole armada!" Allura added in a struggling tone. Lotor didn't know what to do at that moment.
Seeing you have to fight such a vicious battle, he wanted at least to help you but he knew you were too far gone. With a final 'tch' Lotor turned away and ran back to his ship.
"She'll be fine." Shiro tried to reassure but Lotor didn't respond and just flew into battle while you had to fight the war.
"Do you really think you can defeat me?" Zarkon asked with a chuckle as he started to charge himself up with the two quintessence tanks on his back.
Bingo.
"I don't think, I just go by instinct, and it's telling me to take you down." You answered as you changed your weapon to a bow and arrow, aiming for his back. it was easier said than done since Zarkons speed increased tenfold.
You almost couldn't switch back to your blades in time when he bolted towards you. You crossed them and blocked a high kick right on time but you could feel his immense strength as your heels started to dig down into the ground.
You had to think fast if you didn't want to get squished. You quickly moved to the side letting him finish the blow to the ground. You jumped a few steps back trying to gain some distance.
"Are you already out of breath?" He taunted as he sprinted back over to you. You smirked as he rushed towards you and quickly changed your weapon into a large mallet, hitting his arm away from your face.
"I'm just getting started." You then brought the fight to him, it was time to end this, any longer and you knew you wouldn't hold out. Turning your Bayard into a whip you wrapped it around his arm.
"Foolish girl!" Zarkon got a good grip on your whip and flung you into the air, ready to slam you onto the ground.
"The only fool here is you!" You then equipped your Bayard into an Energy Cannon and took advantage of the height to blast him with everything you've got. You locked onto his back and fired.
Zarkon thought it was going to be a frontal attack but miscalculated seeing the trajectory of the blast change and was too late to notice it was going for the tanks. It was a direct hit and Zarkon fell on his right knee.
"You insolent wench!" You landed on the ground roughly and took a moment to regain your stance. This was it, he was down to his last ounce of stamina and completely out of quintessence, you had to take advantage while you still can. "I'll make you suffer as I did to you so long ago." He said menacingly. You're grip tightened on your Bayard and let it transform into something new, something you haven't seen before.
You admired it's blade and felt the energy pulls throughout your body, it shined cyan and white in your hand and you looked at your opponent. "I'd like to see you try." You let out one last war cry and charged forward ready to give it your all just as he did. You brought down your sword as you two passed each other, you two stood still until Zarkon hit the ground with a thud.
You then walked back towards him and looked down on him.
"Don't think you've-" You silenced him by running your sword through his neck and slicing his head off, letting it roll on the ground.
"That's enough out of you." You took a look at your weapon which was bathed in his blood but you didn't even flinch.
"Good work Y/n." You could hear Lotor through the communicator in your helmet.
"We should get going, Whites' on her way to pick you up-" Keith's sentence was cut short when you took off the helmet and let it fall to the ground with a small thud.
"Y/n? Y/n are you there? Are you hurt?" He asked but you lifted your sword up and brought it down smashing the headgear to pieces. You then turned it back into your Bayard and let it disappear at your side. You watched as White got closer and turned off the tracker in your paladin armor.
She landed gracefully on the ground and opened her mouth for you to enter. You calmly walked inside and then took a seat.
"Y/n what's going on?!" Keith yelled through the screen. You could see he was fuming yet worried sick. Without saying a single word, you turned on the invisible cloak and then turned off the communication along with the trackers in your lion.
"Come on girl, let's get going."
